Not Currently Looking for Helpers

Homestay in historical village of Saint Lizier.
Officially listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Accommodation and 3 meals a day will be provided in exchange for 4 days work/week helping paint, lay skirting board, carpet and cleaning. The house, built in 1760, has 3 stories, 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We have wireless internet and 2 laptops at your disposal. The heavy/dirty renovations are complete and we are looking for help with finishing the place off.

Saint Lizier is a quiet village that overlooks the Couserans Valley. Located at the foot of the Pyrenees it has splendid views of the mountains. The Gallo-Roman village boasts 2000 years of history with various monuments including the Bishop's Palace and Cathedral with 11th century frescoes and famous cloister, all a stone's throw from the house. We are in the department of Ariege. 1hr 30mins from both Andorra and Spain. 30km from Spain as the crow flies. 3hrs from Barcelona. 1hr from Toulouse. It is the perfect location for a true French experience. A beautiful agricultural area described by 'The Sun' UK newspaper as France without the GB stickers.

Just 2km away (take a walk along the beautiful Salat River or hitch a ride in our car) is the bustling town of Saint Girons with various bars, restaurants, lively eclectic Saturday markets (there are many mountain dwellers that come to sell their wares and organic produce) and plenty of shopping.

If you like hiking, there are countless beautiful mountain trails to explore. The area offers great trout fishing, paragliding, cycling and caves or you are welcome to relax and enjoy the tranquility. The region is most beautiful in Spring, the mountain tops are white, the waterfalls, rivers and alpine lakes full and the fields green with the weather warming and perfect for relaxing on the balcony.

We are a young French/Australian family of 3. Chris, 34, Rachael 28 and Katelyn 1 year old. We are both keen travellers and enjoy swapping stories with other like minded people. We have lived here for 5 years and know the area well. We can show you things that most tourists would miss.

The nearest airports are Toulouse and Carcassonne serviced by Easyjet, RyanAir, Air France and British Airways as well as other airlines. The nearest train station is Boussens. There is a bus connection from Boussens to Saint Girons. Contact us when planning your journey here as we may be able to arrange a pick up.

The first 3 photos are of Saint Lizier. The park is very near our house and has views of the mountains.
