We are in the early stages of setting up our property, so the facilities are rustic and the jobs are many...
First job is setting up a yurt (The yurt is up and looking amazing!), then composting toilets (Partially complete and functioning.... just needs some extra touches and plumbing for sink) and shower building...
We are also working on a permaculture design plan for the property and while we are already starting on landscaping and planting a few things most of this will happen once the plan is complete. We are going to be ready for a large permablitz (https://permablitzbopnz.net) at Easter weekend.
If you are keen to be at the permablitz, please join the network and register here: https://permablitzbopnz.net/2018/03/12/permablitz-28/
This would not be a helpX exchange as such as we are now booked out for accommodation. However if you have your own tent or camping vehicle and want to stay on afterwards feel free to get in touch and we can discuss the options.
Work times vary greatly.
We expect 25 hours of work per week and are fairly flexible with how these are divided over the days and how many days off you have...
We prefer helpers to stay for 2 weeks, so we can get to know you and spend some quality time together, but will accept shorter stays too :-)
Some of the jobs include:
- building / carpentry tasks
- removing thistles, blackberry and some gorse
- harvesting and processing bamboo for building
- splitting firewood
- fencing / building a chook run
- making compost
- preparing garden beds
- and more...
We love helpers to have a project to work on start to finish during your stay. We have some ideas of what we need but you could come up with your own too!
We can provide accommodation in our caravan or a beautiful spot for your own van. We have access to showers in town and a river to swim and freshen up in is on site.
Please note that we are aiming to live free from plastic and waste to landfill. If you must bring rubbish (especially plastic bags) onto our land we ask that you take these with you when you leave. We are happy to take care of recycling (plastics with 1 and 2 recycle numbers), paper and compost.
We are a multicultural vegetarian household, love music and fun, speak English, German and a little Spanish (we like to practice) and have a small organic herbal tea business and food truck we run on the weekends...
We love permaculture, our swimming hole and bonfire evenings.
We look forward to hearing from you!
