Our farm is situated on a rolling hill of Northumberland County, 10 minutes north of Cobourg. We have many projects on the farm including a garden that supports 10 families and ongoing compressed earth block building projects. If you are interested in learning skills in the alternative building field this is the place for you. There will be many interesting and educational jobs. Although we prefer to have helpers come with some history in eco building and carpentry, most important is an eagerness to learn.

We have developed a compressed earth block and straw bale hybrid building system, which is the first of its kind in Canada.
Last summer we built a house from jumbo straw bales. There is an article about the build in the Toronto Star. Google "Jumbo Straw bale house cobourg" and it will come up.

The exterior is completed and we are spending the fall and winter working on the inside...building walls, earth block floors, natural clay plaster, plumbing, electrical, trim etc. Henry, a carpenter and builder for over 40 years will be working alongside our volunteers.
We are looking for someone who has some experience in building or gardening. There's lots of variety in the work and we take people's interests in mind.

Currently we have 3 people staying with us through October and as of the first of November have room for one more.

We really enjoy getting to know people and watching the helpers form a wonderful group and hang out together. Everyone becomes a part of the family. In the warmer weather we use the "dome" for cooking, eating and socializing. The atmosphere on our farm is relaxed, warm and accommodating. We enjoy bonfires, saunas, cooking in our pizza oven and music events.
