We are seeking a long-term person between November and March - everything will be included during your stay.

Welcome traveller!! :-) We hope your experiences in Australia are amazing!!

Please carefully read the sections about what we expect from you as a helper and as a helpx user - this saves everyone from having a bad experience!

We are Peter and Samantha. Our profile is extensive but we want to ensure that you know exactly what to expect and what we expect of you! We want you to have the best possible experience so make sure you read it all before sending us a message!

We seek energetic and positive people.

A BIT ABOUT US: We live on a very heavily timbered and private 100.3 Hectare (250acre) property 4hrs drive west of Brisbane and 40km south of Chinchilla. We have a very large home made from a combination of recycled materials and natural building techniques. Our foundation is made from recycled Shipping Containers. We free-range all of our animals - a fact we are very passionate about. We have just started expanding our garden to create a food forest - this means lots of gardening. We have 4 children ranging in age between 3 and 13 still living at home. We Home Educate them all so there are always 'lessons' happening. We have a huge range of fun and interesting animals, including chickens, geese, ducks and guinea fowl. We have 4 very friendly pet dogs and 2 very friendly pet cats (one of which has 4 very energetic kittens). Peter is a smoker, Samantha is not, we don't care if you do or don't.
We have a large library for those that enjoy a bit of reading in their down-time, or a great deal of countryside to go walking and investigate. In the warmer months we have a few swimming holes which we visit to cool off. We watch a wide range of current TV shows and movies in the evenings. We invite you to bring along some of your movies etc. to share as well!
We are both positive and passionate about our lifestyle and love to share it with others. We also enjoy learning about different cultures/lifestyles from around the world! We also enjoy a good story and good laugh.

CURRENT PROJECTS: Check out our Facebook page above for current photos/stories.
We have a few projects happening
*Creation of Food Forest using permiculture techniques
*Building an outdoor entertainment area
*Finishing off several cob rooms
*Gardening
*Landscaping
*Animal Care
*plus many more and again we invite you to share a few of your ideas!!

WHAT WE OFFER YOU: Our guest bedrooms are 18 square meters of comfort. Generally you get the room to yourself, although on rare occasions you will be required to share. Each room has its very own wood heater for the colder nights. Rooms contain Queen or Double beds. We general keep males and females in separate rooms, however will consider couples upon application. There is limited internet access available. You will be able to make local or national calls from our phone. You will also be able to receive international calls. If you are bringing your mobile phone - please be aware that TELSTRA is the only service provider that works in this area. If you wish to have friends/family post stuff to you (mail comes 3 times a week) we are happy to arrange that as well. You may have opportunities to visit the local towns of Chinchilla or Tara as well as enjoy socialising with some of the local families. You will get good home cooked meals every day. We will also do your washing!!
We do give preference to guests who wish to stay longer than 2 weeks. You will be given a chance to be a part of something unique that will survive for hundreds of years!

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU: As a guest in our home we expect your help in all activities from mixing cob, gardening and collecting firewood to feeding animals and washing dishes. We expect that you will join us in creating something special and that you will be a team member of our home. What we do is not hard work, but it is dirty - a good reason you will enjoy a nice blasting hot shower! We expect you to clean up after yourself and keep your room tidy. Samantha does 90% of the cooking but there is always room for you to have a go if you wish. If you have special dietary requirements we must know these in your first message to us - some we can cater to, others we can not. We do expect you to have a positive and friendly attitude as well as the desire to learn something new and interesting.

AS A HELPX USER: We love to see a current photo of you - a picture paints a thousand words.
We love the use of the feedback function - both good and bad feedback helps everyone! Once you leave feedback for us, we will do the same for you in return - something which will help other hosts when you are searching for somewhere new!
We do not guarantee a space until we have seen a copy of your bus ticket to Chinchilla (which is where the nearest bus stop is and where we will pick you up from)! We prefer you arrive and depart Chinchilla on a Monday around lunch time, however we can make other arrangements on a case-by-case basis - you will need to contact us regarding this! Those that have their own vehicle will need to contact us via mobile phone to confirm their space.

If you made it all this way through our profile than thank-you!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

We hope you have a lovely stay in Australia and look forward to the opportunity to expand your creative mind!
