Our property wants someone long term (3-6 mo) that appreciates a rural life, knows a little bit about machinery, garden, orchard and yard maintenance or is interested in learning. We have developed orchards and gardens which need attention. In return we will provide a private cottage alongside a bush-clad stream and 1 min walk to beach. We often can share produce but do not offer meals, although we can at times return with supplies from Auckland. Keep in mind GBI does not have reticulated power. Anyone here will learn how to manage other systems. We,d like the weekly work to be based on a job completion rather than a specific number of work hours. This will be negotiated, of course, but perhaps, work 15 hr a week.

Gt. Barrier Is. has a vehicle/passenger ferry from Auckland to Tryphena 3 times a week and 30 min. flights from Auckland airport several times a day. We can usually meet the ferry and sometimes the flights. There are taxi buses from both Claris airport and wharf. The closest shops, P O, pub, cafe, bus are 5 min drive from our property.
In March there will be olives to harvest, press, and brine. Anyone here will help with this and the products will be shared.

We like the idea of helping people w/o their own resources to live a more self sustainable life.
