Horse Stud in Chevannes, department Nièvre, region Burgandy (Bourgogne) in France.
The perfect place to improve your french ! because we are french and very happy to help persons to speak our language !
In 2011, our stud is classified 2nd endurance horse stud of French top 100.
Here is a place for nature lovers, those who need the city will not be happy here.
We breed horse barb, arabian-barb, anglo-arabian and arabian horses. Our four-legged family consists of 55 members, stallions, mares, foals and grown-up horses that we ride mainly to prepare them for endurance races competition.
My husband and myself host helpers having passion and love for horse.
In exchange of accomodations, and riding gratis (only if you are an excellent english style horse rider), you will share some activities with horses: feeding, mushing, cleaning stables, breeding. Could sometimes be a little gardening in the garden in season (rare).
IMPORTANT: The riders who do not know how to use a halter, clean out the feet of a horse, to brush a horse, to put a bridle and a saddle, should not contact me.
The rider who wants to improve his technical farriery could look, learn and give tools to my husband, who puts shoes (iron or plastic) to our horses, so may be you can become a beginner blacksmith !
To ride, you really have to be a very good rider, sporty , relaxed even when we are cantering, and you have not to exceed 65 kg (very maximum, weigh you please) for the respect of your friend horse. You must have a good physic condition and no problem of health (even old, like tendinit, articular, scoliosis, or even allergy).
We have no more horses to learn you to ride, so beginners will not be able to ride here, I'm sorry.
Indeed, we raise our foals and young horses ourselves, then we pull them and participate to endurance races (from 20 to 160km). Endurance is an outside discipline for which the training is long. Also, training can be intensive sometimes, that's the reason of good condition required.
The horse rider has to know and respect his horse, he has to learn how to make do with the difficulties with the ground, the meteo, the hills, to finish with a horse in a excellent physical condition.
And especially, the rider must behave like a friend with his horse, because for us our horses are our friends and our family members.
Here we keep our old horses until the end and we take care like others.
The atmosphere is very relaxed but serious because it's the horse above all.
We host all year. Marcel, my husband, and myself, Marie-Christine, speak french, and I speak english, but Marcel prefers welcome persons speaking french (even bad) to understand them and to be understood !, and it will be good for you to improve your french! Here french immersion is complete.
We can't welcome helpers aged under 18, please be honest with your age and be mature, young people who still need family may have difficulties here cause it's an adult world.
And, very important, you will not eat meat here. If you want, you can buy at the supermarket but I don't cook it.
Les cavaliers Français sont évidemment les bienvenus !!
