Hi. I live in a remote area up in the mountains of northern Naxos (Cyclades) My house was only built a few years ago and although the outside is finished, the interior is still a work in progress.

I could use some help on various projects on my land: garden work, mostly clearing, weeding & digging, the house needs painting, and I want to make a chicken coop. Wood needs cutting and stacking...there is plenty to do and anyone who doesnīt mind a bit of hard work is welcome. I am also looking for people with general building experience, and in particular skilled plumbers, plasterers, carpenters and floor-layers. I want to stress that this type of work is not something I can teach anyone, so although you may be adaptable and quick to learn, I only want experienced people for the building projects. I offer food and accommodation in exchange for your input.

My place is really only suitable for self- sufficient practical people who donīt mind living in a remote place and who enjoy peace and quiet. I have a garden where I grow my own vegetables, olives, grapes etc. It's not a farm but it is organic. The house has a comfortable atmosphere and will be fine for people who are okay with basics. There is running water and a working toilet but the accommodation is very simple and basic. Electricity is from a generator which is an expensive and wasteful way to produce it, but I intend to have solar energy before the end of the year. For now though, thatīs how it is!
It's very quiet where I live. I have no direct neighbours but you can hear goat bells and the people from the nearby village (in the photo) and not much else. Wonderful if you enjoy peace and quiet. Not a place for party animals. The views are spectacular: sun and moonrise over the sea which is about 5km away, and on a clear day you can see a lot of other islands. Some of the surrounding villages are unspoilt and virtually untouched by tourism so that during a stay here, you will encounter an authentic Greece and an energy far removed from the usual tourist experience.
Naxos town is about an hour away by car, two hours with the buses, and is a lively community of maybe 10.000 souls, with most shops and services that you could reasonably want. The island has diverse and dramatic scenery, and some of the best beaches in Greece. Naxos is primarily a farming island and although tourism is important and well-catered for, the island is self-sufficient and grows most of the things you will eat here. Fruit, vegetables, fantastic potatoes, cheeses, wine and meat products.

If you think that this might be for you, please contact me and we can discuss the details. Thanks.

The last photo by the way is of me with my very first HelpX Helper, and now my friend,
Sara Janni. I am so very lucky to have had the pleasure of her company, and recommend her unhesitatingly to any host.

Go well and look forward to hearing from you.

Stuart
