Tired of "travelling the road" ...? Then, why not swap your back-pack for some some true-blue Aussie country-living in your very own creekside, bluestone cottage ... in exchange for part-time work.
Kingbilli is a 200 acre Eco-tourism and Llama-breeding property on the banks of the Little River at Taggerty - just 90 minutes NE of Melbourne in Victoria's Central Highlands. Home to 200 species of native wildlife, it provides a great opportunity to experience a real environmental close-up ... and a relaxed country lifestyle.
This is what we do :
1. Interactive Eco-tourism : We provide guest accommodation to domestic and international holidaymakers, encouraging them to appreciate and learn more about our natural environment and its unique inhabitants.
2. Sustainable Agriculture : We breed Llamas, Horses & Irish Donkeys.
3. Wildlife Conservation : We operate a Wildlife Refuge and Release Centre.
We always need additional help ... so volunteer couples are much appreciated. We request 14 hours work per person per week (spread over two and a half days) leaving the rest of the week free. Tasks : gardening; cleaning; removing invasive weeds; property maintenance; firewood collection; wood-chopping; guiding Llama Eco-Treks.
In exchange, we provide you with a private, self-contained, fully-furnished bluestone cottage - with woodfire, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, (BYO laptop) fully equipped kitchen and gas BBQ. Gas, electicity, fire-wood, laundry facilities, tennis racquets and mountain bikes are included. There's an orchard and vegetable garden from which to select seasonal fruit and vegetables ... but other than that, you must provide (and cook) your own food ... and keep your cottage clean and tidy.
Recreational activities: cycling; tennis; fishing; boating; bush-walking; bird-watching; wildlife spotting ... and you are welcome to enjoy the property and it's facilities!
Paid work : seasonal, part-time or casual work is available locally, advertised weekly in the 2 local papers. We also provide a list of folk to contact for additional off-property work.
We prefer long-term volunteers - from 3-6 months. For full details, photographs of the volunteer accommodation and an application form - type http://kingbilli.com.au/the-people/volunteering/ into your browser.
To apply : Complete and submit the on-line application form, including photocopies of your passport and driver's licence.
PLEASE NOTE : You MUST have your own car - there is no public transport.
