We have a motel that is located around 10 minutes drive from the city of Launceston, Tasmania.
We are offering helpers accommodation in one of our motel rooms in exchange for 2 hours work per day. The work includes garden maintenance, painting, washing and folding linen, cleaning, general house work and many, many other jobs. We are also in the process of renovations so the work could be anything really.
Because of our busy working life we don't often get a chance to sit down with our helpers and enjoy too much cultural exchange but we do our best when we can.
The motel is located on the bus line if you don't have a car and the bus stop is almost at the door.
There is a shopping centre about 1.5km away.
Some dates throughout the year are unavailable due to bookings within the motel.
We look forward to hearing from you soon. Oh and that furry red thing in the pictures is Rupert :)

Hey there,

It's monsoon time, and we have a lovely concrete cool bottle boudoir under our house with it's own kitchen and garden space.

We also have a newly installed pool.

- we would love your help with gardening, cleaning and painting and can provide an awesome funky home for you in return with or without some yummy food. 3 great dogs to cuddle (optional)

You should be pretty good at working without supervision, but in return can learn loads about local food, permaculture in the Tropics and Darwin- and our place is awesome!! Read below!

We are a home in the Darwin Northern Suburbs on an old style large block, and try to be as sustainable as possible in our situation. We have a tropically designed "C19" house with louvers and air flow, a veggie permaculture style garden (currently pretty wild!), outside banana shower, 8 and a half chooks, some shared meals often using local home grown/ market produce (mainly vego) and lots of orange and green, and 3 gorgeous dogs. G'day : )

* We're doing the vine training now*
- We have a small vineyard one hour South of Hobart in the small but beautiful town of Dover. Dover has everything one needs: supermarket, cafe, pharmacy, bank, bottle shop, police, doctor's surgery, high school to 10 years etc. The beach is 20 minutes walk through town, the mountain is behind us. Our property has the vineyard, natural forest, pastures, vegie garden, lakes and creeks. Our wild life and the birds come visiting right to the front door :-)
- We are flexible with work hours. Some days we work all day in the vineyard/vegie garden, some days we just clean the house, cook/bake or do something in the cellar, serve customers or visit friends, sit and talk, read a book or go for a walk etc. You will be treated as PART OF THE FAMILY, so the help we require is not really like a "job". While with us, you will live the life of a country farmer. Your help enables me to go to work or sleep after a night shift :-) while you are taking care of ... more inside

Please note we do not have a position available until March. We hope you can come then!

A bit about our home first.
Our home is partly an urban infill development, where we have converted one house into four self-contained living units, tripling the population density without adding to the house’s footprint.
Our home is partly an urban farm with chickens, goats, compost and fruit trees, plus a large shared veggie patch.
Our home is partly a demonstration sustainable house, with cutting edge energy systems, water collection and dispersal systems and innovative passive solar design.
Our home is partly an educational opportunity and community hub, with regular tours, workshops, films and other community events.

Why not come and stay with us?

Your hosts Shani and Tim will be happy to meet you. Tim does all the building, landscaping and art work around the place, and Shani is in charge of the gardens and animals.

Your accommodation will be inside the main house in a larg... more inside

Mature person, non smoker, required to help with painting the outside of a weatherboard building. Prefer someone practical, as will require some sanding, useing no-more gaps and working on scaffolding and or ladder due to height of building. The home is a former pub built about 1860, lots of character, but the outside now needs repainting. It's a single story building, however has two high gables front and back which is difficult for me to reach. Room in yard for camper van or room in house available. Easy work, hours flexible, can be 4 Hrs daily for 5 days and two off, or full day with next day off, or work to what suits. Prefer work exchange for accommodation, but flexible with hours and food. I live on my own, and although have done a lot of the renovations myself a few years ago, now find it difficult to commit time to this project, but will be able to help out. May take less than a week, but other work available if want to stay longer.
Would need own transport, as 12klms... more inside
