Our little farm faces Hikurangi, the sacred mountain of the Ngati Porou people. Each new day, it is the first land in Aotearoa to feel the sun's rays.

We are developing a sustainable farming system, and working toward self-sufficiency - establishing vegetable gardens and fruit trees, plantings to feed birds, bees and butterflies. We try to use indigenous remedies wherever possible. We have established covenants to protect and enhance our ngahere (native bush). Musicians are especially welcome.

Looking to make this trip special? Stay with us and we can help you get the most out of the hidden places that most visitors don't see. We are a couple in our early 60's living in a simple old Bach in the heart of Tolaga Bay township, a place with a rich and diverse culture and strong traditions. Tolaga Bay is the perfect gateway to the East Coast of New Zealand.
Our house is near the beach and the river, about 5 minutes walk away and an easy stroll to the pub, shops and golf club. The sea and the forests nearby supply most of our food, which is supplemented with vegetables and fruits grown in our organic garden. We eat fresh with whatever is in season and land on the table each day.

We would like to host enthusiastic, self motivated and capable people willing to participate in our daily lives and share their knowledge and culture. Skilled tradies are very much in demand but energetic and pro active individual are always welcome. We provide our visitors with accommodation an... more inside

Permaculture farm pursuing sustainable self-reliance, self-sufficiency and bio-diversity.

Volunteers can learn permaculture principles, how to grow food, how to use energy wisely, how to manage micro-businesses and sell at market. In exchange, dedicated help for 5 hours a day, 1-2 days off per week. Permaculture enthusiasts only please - i'm very picky. There aren't many suitable candidates around so have widened the search to Help X.

Email me for my very detailed full profile you will need to read first, far too long for this site to handle. You need to have a full understanding of the project, what is offered and what is expected before you can officially apply. If you wish to go further i can also provide a link to my social media pages for many photos, videos and explanations to peruse.
I have been hosting for years on other platforms, so previous volunteer references will be made available.

Thanks

Large family home situated on split level section. All levels planted in various shrubs and trees. 10 min. drive to Gisborne, 3 min. amble to famous surf beach.
We are a family of six. The children have grown up and at present, Kim and Ana live and work around the home. Over the years we have planted many shrubs and trees. Now is the time to curb their growth; extensive trimming , pruning and thinning is needed! We are also planning to repaint the exterior of our home.
Anyone who is keen to "muck in" is welcome! Kim and I are looking for the visitor to work 3 to 4 hrs per day in exchange for home cooked meals and board. We are happy to look at any other arrangements if need be.

We run a farm about 30 km out of Gisborne in a fabulous rural area. So you need your own transport to reach us. We have 1100acres of beautiful land to walk and sightsee over. We breed our own Bulls, for our yearly sale. We also have cows, sheep, pet lambs and also a beautiful calf, two cats, (farm)dogs, and a lot of fun. There are always jobs that we need a bit of help with, for example woodwork, gardening, playing tennis, stockwork, fencing and putting golfballs.

You will have your own room in our house. In your leisure you could use our tenniscourt, go for a walk, spend your time with the animals or go into Gisborne or Rere Rockslide and the Eastwoodhill Arboratum are only minutes away. Wi fi internet connection.
There is always something to do.
If you have special dietary needs or a vegetarian, you will need to provide some of your own food lentils, couscous, or any veges that you might think you need. Meat meals are provided, but vegetarian is up to you.
