Nestled in the beautiful Southern Alps is the historic settlement of Cass (approx half way between Christchurch and Greymouth). I am offering private accommodation (separate from the house with own bathroom)in exchange for odd jobs - painting, gardening and lawn mowing.
I also have a horse drawn wagon seen in the photo's which is needing a keen horseperson to drive and keep working.
There is plenty to do in the area including fishing on many of the nearby high country lakes (1.6 km to Lake Sarah) day walks/ tramping in Arthurs Pass National Park and Craigieburn forest Park, skiing on one of the 5 local ski fields, four wheel driving, Scree jumping (down Sugar Loaf). A short drive to Cave stream scenic reserve (one of the south Islands best free activities) and Castle Hill natural rock climbing park (where scenes from Lord of the Rings and Narnia were filmed). Other nearby facilities are The Bealy Hotel (10mins) and Arthurs Pass 20mins. In exchange I would like four hours work... more inside

If you enjoy working with horses and an outdoor lifestyle we would like to hear from you.
My husband and I run a small horse and cattle farm, backing on to Forestry and walking tracks. 10klms from Rangiora.10 mins drive from beach.
Our horses are trained for and compete in Endurance Racing,so helpers must be experienced in riding horses in wide open spaces at speed.

Does exploring the surrounding countryside on horse back and travelling with horses appeal?

The help we require involves day to day care of horses and riding out plus some gardening and farm work.

Accommodation is a private self contained sleepout suitable for couples, your own vehicle is essential as we are out of town.

This is our busiest time of year so if you are keen we have plenty to keep you occupied and would love to hear from you.

We are a family on a working / hobby farm with a massive variety of animals including horses, cow and calves , pigs and sometimes piggies, donkeys, goats, ponies, over 100 geese, chickens, rabbits, 10 dogs and sometimes puppies, cats and sometimes kittens, tonnes of little birds and 2 very friendly children. Wouter is 60yrs old, is around 1.9m tall and has a good sense of humor & likes to read about the economy. Marina is 36yrs old, and works from home as an Architectural Illustrator.

We need someone to mind our children and someone else to help out around the farm.

If you are child minding then we would need you to walk around the farm with the children, read to them, play with them in the playground, walk to get the mail, visit the animals, and feed the animals with them. It is an advantage of you feel you have something to teach them and it would be nice if you could read to them. If would be nice if you could help out a bit around the house also like do some dishes.

Hello, we have a 'boutique' dairy farm on the edge of Oxford, North Canterbury, where we sell fresh, real milk through our Village Milk vending machine. We milk around 20 cows year round and this has been a very popular addition to our farm. Our eldest daughter has enjoyed doing Help Exchanges overseas so we would love to give someone the same opportunity!

We have a few jobs on at the moment that we would like some help with including altering a shed, and clearing yard areas, burning fire heaps. We also have ongoing jobs such as feeding out, weed spraying, gardening, painting, tidying and household chores so depending on the day there will be some variety.

We would like one person aged 20 and over who has reasonable English and has had a little bit of experience on a farm already so they are ready to jump in to help with anything. Hours/days of work are flexible but we would expect around 4-5 hours a day, depending on the jobs and weather. Maximum 7 day stay.

We are looking for help over August with getting the farm ready for milking and lamb raising in spring, as well as basic maintenance and tidying up over the winter. We need to get some fencing done, building a few animal shelters, building a raised vegetable garden. Volunteers will stay in a basic barn loft and can also participate in farm activities if interested. We should have lambs for bottle feeding from early august. We are a couple in our 40's who have travelled a lot. We run goats and sheep for milking, and meat and chickens, ducks and pigs. We produce most of our own food as sustainably as possible.
No vegetarians and no smokers.
