We're interested in hearing from strong, young people willing and able to help us in the garden and on the farm - and who are also interested in sharing experiences and culture in a happy atmosphere.

We are also looking for those who have not yet left home but will do so between now and early next year. Over the years we have enjoyed being the first host for young visitors in their GAP year, welcoming them and helping them organise themselves in this country - but we are also open to offers from others.

This is an old family property first established by my Great Grandfather, although we now live on a small section of the original property. My wife and I were formerly running a merino sheep stud. We have a large garden which needs constant work and from time to time also undertake more major projects for which we seek strong, enthusiastic assistance! We try to match the work expectations to the skills and interests of our guests.

Basic fitness and a readiness to learn a... more inside

We have been blessed to have hard workers from help exchange stay with us. We live in a special valley along a creek and bush walking tracks accessed from our property in Wurundjeri country-the Traditional Owners of this land.

We're on a beautiful 7 hectare (15 acres) hobby farm with an organic veggie and fruit garden-from blueberries to potatoes and zucchini and corn. And paddocks with 6 horses.

Animals are part of our everyday world so you must care about them (cats, dogs, horses) and the local wildlife. Some projects include treating the wombat population for a contagious, painful, skin disease called 'mange'and monitoring their dens over the time that you're here.

Your reward is that Rivendell Farm offers a special Aussie experience like no other- you're treated like family, participating in our everyday life. We are 50 minutes from Melbourne by train and 10 minutes drive to the top of Mt Dandenong and near Yarra Valley. I will need help with cleaning a single bed and breakfast cottage between 12 noon and 2pm. This includes making beds vacuuming and cleaning a spa and shower and restocking food supplies, etc. This is needed an average of 4 days per week which will include Saturday and Sunday most likely. Additionally I will need the lawns mowed weekly on a ride-on mower which most people love. I also want to start planting a veggie garden and general garden weeding and maintenance. I like a total of around 20 hours per week from each person and these jobs can be managed by one person. Other jobs to make up the hours could be cleaning the main house or other cleaning, maintenance or gardening jobs. For helpers with the right skills I also have large gardens and could accomplish planting out new garden beds, starting vegie gardens, building works, tree pruning, mulching and many small main... more inside

COME AS STRANGERS.....LEAVE AS FRIENDS :-)

We are a middle aged couple with a beautiful
energetic young pre-schooler at home, passionate about developing and living in a sustainable world. Mum works with youth who have disabilities, while Dad is at home, home schooling Bub, keeping house, producing food in the garden and the kitchen, and developing the property with permaculture principles in mind.

We currently live in a converted open plan schoolhouse with 2 bedrooms. Bubba shares our room, so the other room is available.

We have chickens,a bull and 2 cows, 3 young calves, several sheep, pigs, sometimes ducks, and hopefully soon rabbits and goats, along with our cats and dogs. We are located about 2 hours from the city, in a region that has diverse farming operations-from vineyards and market gardens, through to dairy and sheep.

We'd love to share our rustic, no-frills life experiences with you here, in exchange for your willingness to help us as we work in our food... more inside

Hello

This is a Lifestyle property located 10 minutes from the town of Alexandra. My wife and I enjoy growing our own vegetables and sometimes raising our own meat. We have a beautiful property with a large dam and jetty and usually get kangaroos visiting in the evening. We have a large home with 5 bedrooms, helpxers will have their own rooms and their own bathroom. We will have breakfast and dinner together but you will make lunch yourself from food we provide as we will mostly be at work during the day. We love learning new recipes so if you are interested in cooking we welcome your enthusiasm.

Jobs to try to achieve are things like attending garden beds, clearing branches around property, window cleaning, establishing a goat yard, painting, nothing too difficult. We also have chickens which you are welcome to collect eggs from. I am still working and my wife is working full time. I do have Wednesdays off and if helpxers didn't mind it would be preferable if you took your ... more inside
