We strive to live as self sufficiently as we can on our picturesque small farm 12 km from the town of Scottsdale (and 10km from Bridestowe Lavender farm) We run a small flock of sheep, keep bees, hens, geese, turkeys and guinea fowl, maintain a large vegetable garden and a small orchard. The help we require is mainly with weeding of the vegetable garden, watering the garden and fruit trees and collecting firewood from the bush around the farm. We will also have a project at some stage for someone who has some experience preparing the exterior of a house for repainting. We would prefer one person but will consider 2 if you have a genuine interest in self sufficient living and have experience/ relevant skills.
We have a large dam with a resident platypus and and 30 acres of natural bush. Lots of wallabies are to be seen around the farm in the evenings, as well as other native wildlife. We also have a friendly cat called Charlie.
Our home is a comfortable older style farmhouse wit... more inside

Hello, we are a family of 3 who have 6 acres to play with. I am Thierry (french), my wife is Vanessa (australian), our daughter Cleo (half half of course) and the cat Lexi. We joined Helpx because we need some help around the land and we love to have people stay at home and share a bit of each others lives. There is plenty to do here, looking after the land, the animals (2 sheep 3 ducks and many chickens) starting or finishing new projects and playing around making or doing whatever passes through your head, you won't get bored.
We are living 20mins from Hobart on a beautiful little peninsula surrounded by beautiful beaches (good surfing ones) and lots of walking or riding tracks. You'll be welcome to borrow bikes, surfboard, kayaks and fishing gear if you like.
We'll be sharing the cooking (we are vegetarian ) and for the work, we ask for 4 h per day and per person but are happy to let you organise your week as you want.
You'll have your own room or a confortable tent (up to yo... more inside

Today's News 23rd Nov.
Wow what a hectic few days. The ABC came last Wednesday to film and aired it on Friday. Seems our concerns with the clear felling and burning of a coop next to us has gotten media attention. Early garlic is almost all out and we are starting to hang it. Jinyoung and Isabelle have been leading the charge and have done a terrific job. Kieren has been preparing, boxing and laying mesh for a 6X6 metre slab for a drying shed to be poured Tuesday. and Courtney has been busy planting and baking and cooking with Barbara. Everyone is having the day off today (the sun is shining!) and all is well with the world. Last ... more inside

We live on 55 acres of land in a four bedroom home. We have 5 adult children the youngest (22) is still living at home. We also have 2 grandaughters, so if you can blend in you will be fine!
We have 10 Greyhounds which we would like help with and general work around the gardens, as they are quite large and extensive. The work consists of mainly light duties farm work and hours and wages to be negotiated for the successful person. We hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

Hello, I (Jane) and my husband (Cole) have three sons and three daughters aged between 17 and 30. Currently no-one lives at home with us. We live in the foothills of Mount Wellington, with easy access to bush walking tracks. We live a 10 minute walk to the bus (regular buses available) to and from Hobart City.

We have completed building our house and moved in 11months ago.We have many unfinished details to complete, including a downstairs flat. Life is quite a busy - but a fun environment. We are looking for someone to help out doing jobs such as gardening and basic labor (carpentry skills favourable but not essential)as well as helping out with basic housework and cooking. We would love someone hard working, independent and cheerful.

We provide a private comfortable double room and shared bathroom in the family home.

Our flower farm is overlooking the Huon Estuary located 8km from Cygnet. The farm is half pasture and half bushland. There are 3 dogs, 2 cats, chickens, 2 horses and beef cattle to look after as well as approximately 2ha of flowering plants. The farm is quite secluded and a very peaceful environment. Acommodation is self contained and it is helpful if people can cook for themselves food provided or otherwise negotiated. So animal friendly people are very welcome. You can look up Peppermint Ridge on Facebook.

Looking for one person to combat the crazy growth of spring weeds.
Hi,
I am developing 8 acres of land into a retreat. Ive been building a big house that is almost ready for paying customers to stay in. There is a big vegetable garden and orchard. There are 2 Siberian husky dogs, chickens, geese and bees for pets and always plenty of wildlife. Operating at the moment is a campground and sauna that can sometimes get busy in the summer because of the location right next to the Tasman National Park section of Cape Raoul and Shipstern bluff.
For some people this location is remote we are 10km to the nearest town and 2 hrs drive to Hobart. You can hardly see any neighbors so just be aware if you cant get by without your suburb/city trappings.
I live with a friend Alison who works a couple of days in Hobart. I am mainly working around home but also do occasional diving work in Hobart. I am a keen cycle tourer and sea kayaker who has done a lot of traveling.

We are currently running an organic market garden, selling our produce at a busy local market and setting up a farm shop for direct sales. We are also busy using holistic grazing methods for managing cattle and caring for chooks, turkeys and ducks.

Farm projects November 2014:
Market gardening: propagation, planting, mulching, weeding, harvesting
Building/ renovation: renovating our old barn for a farm shop so we can sell our produce from the farm;

Maintaining animal systems
Compost making
Crop planning

We farm based on the principles and ethics of permaculture and organic and regenerative agriculture, and are passionate about these approaches. We are also interested in closed loop farming systems, small scale food production, and community supported agriculture.

We are looking for helpers who are genuinely and passionately interested in pursuing a future in market gardening and/ or agriculture and are keen to develop the nece... more inside
