Volunteers welcome who are interested in helping to create an English garden, staying in my home in Birmingham. The work will be hands on, landscaping, digging, planting, weeding, getting hedges under control. You need to know a little about gardening, and be able to use lawn mower and hedge trimmers etc. I'm looking for people who can work fairly independently, and enjoy the work, and enjoy being creative within a general outline plan.

Some decorating and helping around the house would be involved too, particularly when the weather is not great.

Food and accommodation in exchange for 4 hours work a day with 2 days off per week. One of the work days may be on the weekend. We will probably cook together in the evening most of the time, and food will be available to help yourself for breakfast and lunch, and you will be considered one of the family.

I should mention that my house is having a lot of work done, so some rooms are not yet decorated, and I am hoping to be rea... more inside

We are busy trying to complete two large house extensions and at the stage where we need help with some of the following jobs. Woodcutting, wood clippings shredded, gardening, strimming, painting and decorating, there are paths to lay, plumbing, tiling etc. Some can be paid work if you have skills to offer and we are open minded about length of stay.
We live in a quiet rural area just behind the centre of the village so, apart from the local pubs, there is no night life. We are happy to take you out with us if we go anywhere and there is a limited local bus service.
We produce a lot of our own vegetables and fruit and we keep chickens. We are not vegetarian although sometimes I cook vegetarian food. We have had quite a few helpers and we have all enjoyed the experience and the cultural exchange and we are still in touch with some of our helpers who became friends. We are probably looking for more mature helpers than students now but if you read this and feel you might suit what w... more inside

We have an opportunity for a part-housekeeper and part-farm-help / gardener to join us from mid-December 2017 or from 1st January 2018 for a period of 1 to 2 months or more. The work in late December and January involves some spring-cleaning of our 500-year-old house and some cooking. A good chance to practice your English alongside native speakers. We are 1 hour by train from London, 10 minutes from Brighton, and you can choose any day that you are free to join us.

We have been growing Japanese and English vegetables since spring 2005, starting with just half an acre of land. In 2017 we will continue our drive for self-sufficiency on our 60 acre site at a beau... more inside
