We are a small holding on the Southern slopes of the Lammermuir hills looking out over the Tweed valley towards the Cheviot hills. This is a very peaceful rural location. We are renovating an old farm cottage using green oak framing and traditional stone mason skills. Anyone with these skills or enthusiasm to learn and good attention to detail will be most welcome. There will be additional opportunities to use or develop skills in timber frame building and welding. We keep a small flock of geese and assistance with these and general household tasks is also on the agenda. Simon is a forest manager and part-time saw miller so there will be opportunities to use or develop skills in these fields too. We stay in a mobile home with wood burner and compost loo. We also have a wood fuelled hot water boiler to provide baths/showers. We usually prepare and eat meals communally. Sleeping accommodation for visitors is in a separate touring caravan. AN UPDATE – 14 September 2014: I AM SORRY BUT WE ARE NOW FULL UNTIL THE END OF OCTOBER. Sorry, there are so many great volunteers we would have liked to have hosted.

We can host one person, a couple, or two friends.

We will always reply but please be patient. We get a LOT of requests.

Generally there is a variety of work to do based upon priority, weather, availability of materials, skills of HelpXers (have & learn!), and our time to do some jobs together.

There are a few things to be getting on with here, depending on priorities, and the weather:

• The priority is looking after a small cottage in the garden we rent out for holidays: preparing it for guests (once or twice a week), welcoming guests

• Completing the ‘lost garden’, see below

• Cleaning, cooking, and gardening

• An ever-changing list of things to do on the house and garden. There is a good opportunity to learn / share skills in decorating, painting, woodwork, plumbing, electrics, gardening........ more inside
