We still need help at our own house in a huge garden. One side is in wooded country, the other behind main street with Edinburgh buses day and night. Gardening, housework and lots of community projects like THE LOST GARDEN OF PENICUIK, PENICUIK STOREHOUSE, and more, to get involved with -see below.

We look for enthusiasm but experience of gardening, building or painting is a bonus. If you are interested in local culture and history and are happy to work unsupervised, you'll be needed!

There's a once weekly, not-for-profit shop supplying fairtrade & organic food and goods to our local community.

We are about 45 minutes from Edinburgh by very frequent bus. Accommodation for 1 or for 2 sharing a room for about 2 weeks. We provide meals.

We are involved in our local community, a group restoring the vast Lost Garden of Penicuik (a nearby Victorian walled garden) growing food. Helpers have dug, planted, harvested, cooked and sold produce for 4 years now.

Fancy helping us out?

Volunteers needed from 11th September onwards

WHAT WE OFFER

We ask for 20 hours work per week (usually four per day, five days with two off, but it depends on the help needed) in return for your accommodation, which is a private comfortable small caravan or a room in the hostel when available. The campsite facilities are just a short distance from the caravan. You will have full use of hostel facilities (when no 'exclusive use' group staying), free use of laundry facilities, wifi and you can borrow a bike (when available) to go exploring the beautiful surrounding area in your time off.

We do not provide meals, but provide a little pocket money to help you buy food (receipts needed).

The hostel is mainly used by big groups who hire out the whole place for private use - it's not really a backpacker destination, so it's unlikely you will meet people on the usual backpacker trail. We need people who can work without constant supervision and are se... more inside
