Looking for a HelpX placement in the next couple of weeks? We have a availability for a short 1 or 2 week stay for 2 friends or a couple.

We had a really busy spring and summer with work and sadly we fell well behind with our normally lovely garden. We're looking for a couple of friends or a couple to join us for our late autumn/early winter project to get it all tidied up and ready to put it to bed for the winter.

Work will be mostly outside if the weather is fine and when it's bad we'll find jobs to do inside or in the polytunnels in our Fruit and Veg Garden. There's LOADS of interesting things to do including sowing seeds for overwintering, tiding up the raspberry canes, clearing and digging the veg beds over, clearing the flowers beds, raking up leaves and composting, tidying, looking after the chickens/cleaning the chicken house/gathering eggs, laying new paths and repairing a polytunnel that high winds damaged last week. For those with some DIY or carpentry skills we... more inside

Comfortable,self-contained, fully furnished accommodation available NOW, in exchange for housekeeping, cooking, driving, and gardening/general maintenance of country cottage within Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. I am a recently widowed, quite badly disabled pensioner, following a stroke five years ago, with an active dog and an invisible cat, requiring 'granny minding',and support. I am easygoing, but do like a clean, tidy house and good, simple food.

Balquhidder is a beautiful rural area that has a friendly, disperse community. I would like to think of my helpers as extended family living in their own 'house'. This would suit a single person, or more probably a couple [the accommodation has only a double bed!]. If you are able to come and stay for several months, I would be delighted. This placement is really what you make of it - the work isn't difficult, but it is routine, with generally afternoons and evenings free. There is reasonable WIFI in the main house, but... more inside

This mixed hill farm is home to 6 cows, a bull, two pigs, a large flock of sheep, bees, poultry, ducks, three cats and four dogs with their two owners and quite a lot of wildlife. The farm is certified organic/biodynamic. We use Biodynamic methods, have no machinery and work hard to try to grow vegetables, shiitake and fruit at 650' on a south facing hill in a glorious area of South West Scotland. We welcome non-smoking meat eating or vegetarian help. We are far from shops and transport, quiet - a great place to watch the stars!

In October 2014 we are looking for fit people who like to get 'stuck in' as there are some heavy duty jobs, eg shifting old haylage, left over from a very wet winter! In return we offer good food and a beautiful location with nature and history on the doorstep!

This is a croft in a glen on the west of Skye: 1 acre coniferous woodland and a native-wooded burn, 3 cows, 1 heifer and 3 hens; 2 working collies who are pets as well; the garden has gone to the dogs and needs clearing and sorting out. Lots of help needed with woodlogging, maintaining fencing, muck-clearing, grass-bracken-creeping thistle-docken cutting and clearing, digging and cleaning ditches, clearing paths. Not all this is urgent or has to be done at once: depends on the season, weather, midgies, time available and the inclinations and skills of both host and helpers.
Accommodation twin room and double room. You should be fairly self-sufficient in outlook as you might find it a bit quiet. All mod cons available.
Help in the kitchen would be appreciated.

A "Natural" Building Project in the Scottish Highlands.

Hi HelpXers,

***We are not currently looking for volunteers.***

We live, together with our ten year old cocker spaniel, Kim, in a beautiful wooded glen (valley) near a village called Spinningdale about 50 miles (80 km.) north of Inverness in the northern Scottish Highlands. We have a 6 acre (2.4 hectare) former croft (a "croft" is a traditional small Highland farmstead), which we are gradually developing as a Permaculture site. We are surrounded by 1700 acres (700 hectares) of stunning natural woodland belonging to a conservation body called The Woodland Trust. We help look after the woods as Voluntary Wardens.

Jim is an environmental scientist with a particular interest in ecological design and sustainable building using natural materials.

Saddhavati is an artist and teacher whose other interests include meditation and yoga.

We are nearing completion of our "natural" home. It is a "passive solar" design b... more inside
