Hi HelpXers,

We live, together with our seven year old mad cocker spaniel, Kim, in a beautiful wooded glen (valley) near a village called Spinningdale about 50 miles (80 km.) north of Inverness in the northern Scottish Highlands. We have a 6 acre (2.4 hectare) former croft (a "croft" is a traditional small Highland farmstead), which we are gradually developing as a Permaculture site. We are surrounded by 1700 acres (700 hectares) of stunning natural woodland belonging to a conservation body called The Woodland Trust. We help look after the woods as Voluntary Wardens.

Jim is an environmental scientist with a particular interest in ecological design and sustainable building using natural materials. He recently completed a Master's degree in sustainable architecture and renewable energy at The Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales.

Saddhavati is an artist and teacher whose other interests include meditation, yoga and traditional Scottish music.

This is not for the fainthearted! I am a 40 year old environmental stonemason who has recently returned from working overseas to renovate my old farm steading. This is a very rural location a small, sparsely populated island just of Oban on the West Coast of Scotland. There is no public vehicular access to the island (regular foot passenger ferry during the day) and it takes about 45 minutes to get to the town of Oban.

This would suit folk who enjoy an alternative lifestyle. I am looking for people who have useful skills, or a willingness to learn, in building, roofing and carpentry to name a few. As I also have plans for general landscaping and the construction of large polytunnels for vegetable growing, people with experience in this area are very welcome too. This renovation project would also benefit from domestic support to help with cleaning, cooking, shopping and laundry as this would free up myself and other helpers to concentrate on other tasks. If you are artis... more inside
