We are building a small 8-bed bunkhouse on an island,in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. The bunkhouse is being built on the ruin of an old traditional ‘blackhouse’ and we intend to cover/clad it with the original stone. We have a builder who will erect the house. However we will need help with the stone cladding of the building. We may also need help with our organic garden and our peat cutting. Ideally we would like someone who has some experience of working with stone or would be interested in learning about stonework. In exchange for working 4 to 5 hours a day, 5 days a week , our volunteer would have their own room, use of the house, meals provided and internet access.
The island is beautiful with long sandy beaches, renowned for its flowers and wild life in early summer. It is connected to the larger island of North Uist by causeway and has a ferry connection to the more northerly islands of Harris and Lewis. It’s a lively place in the summer, attracting lots of visitors, cy... more inside

We’re looking for some volunteers, ideally couples or pairs of friends (individuals are welcome too) to help with our winter projects. These will be mainly site maintenance, painting and generally getting the Croft ready for the next season. Being handy with a paint brush and good at DIY would be great, a background in maintenance would be extremely helpful.

Our estate is home to a large steading, cosy farm house, barn/cow shed event space, 7 Nordic Kata’s (kind of like a tipi), meadow and woodland camping pitches and some of the best compact downhill mountain biking trails in Scotland. A "Natural" Building Project in the Scottish Highlands.

Hi HelpXers,

We live in a beautiful wooded glen (valley) near a village called Spinningdale about 50 miles (80 km.) north of Inverness in the northern Scottish Highlands. We have a 6 acre (2.4 hectare) former croft (a "croft" is a traditional small Highland farmstead), which we are gradually developing as a Permaculture site. We are surrounded by 1700 acres (700 hectares) of stunning natural woodland belonging to a conservation body called The Woodland Trust. We help look after the woods as Voluntary Wardens.

Jim is an environmental scientist with a particular interest in ecological design and sustainable building using natural materials.

Saddhavati is an artist and teacher whose other interests include meditation and yoga.

We are nearing completion of our "natural" home. It is a "passive solar" design based around a traditional post and beam timber frame with "breathing" external walls clad with untreated la... more inside

Hello! We need people to start from the 22nd of December for a minimum stay of one month.

We are a small 30 bedroom hotel 20 minutes from Edinburgh city center by train. There are shops, restaurants and pubs within walking distance. We are close to the beach as well.

We need helpers for
housekeeping, reception shifts and bar tending/entertaining guests. You must be able to speak english.

The work starts around 10am for housekeeping and once that is done one or two people work the reception desk from 3pm-9pm. The faster you work the less hours you have to do essentially, everything just depends on how many guests we have coming in and checking out. We have a manager that comes to the hotel for the morning but other than that you are left to be.

We ask for roughly 25-35 hours of work per week usually 5 days on and 2 days off (depending on the other workers and guests).

What you will get:
-a shared room with two other helpers
-a stipend for food every week
-a pri... more inside
