We are a fun, friendly hostel in Kyleakin at the base of the Isle of Skye. The hostel is open all year round and we are always in need of helping hands to keep the place clean, tidy and welcoming for our guests. Skye entices many different travellers and we have the opportunity to enjoy their company and make their accommodation a great part of their adventure.

The Isle of Skye offers hill walking, sight seeing, outdoor adventures and mystic tales to everyone who visits. Kyleakin is part of the gateway to the island and arguably the most beautiful village on Skye! Kyleakin is a fishing village, and many a local fisherman can be befriended at the local pubs

Our hostel has two houses which accommodate both independent travellers and people on tours of the island. Although we are busiest in summer (full every night!) we have guests all year round and strive to offer the best standards to everyone who stays with us. Our hostel and bunkhouse operate year round for groups, families and individuals whilst our luxury private static caravans operate on a more seasonal basis. We also have a cute wooden cabin which is available all year.

We are family owned and run by myself (Keith) and my wife Davina.

I am primarily looking for someone who can help with cleaning and bed changing with occasional reception cover.

You will be immaculately presented, speak excellent English and have fantastic references for me to check.

This is a LIVE IN position with the hours work required to be decided between us once I know your skill set.

Wanted, just a little help with general household & garden maintenance...if weather permits. Not much daylight this time of the year, but this is a quiet retreat! Nice to have some company!

On Offer:

A comfortable room 50 yards from the sea on a small Scottish Island 18 miles from Oban (+ a 3 minute ferry trip!).

The island is 5 miles long, a mile wide. It has a small, scattered population, with a tiny shop a few miles away. A very quiet place, no pub, no cinema, no theme park, no TV but fast internet.

Once a week a trip to Oban to collect food and other supplies.

Food is provided... you might help prepare. A vegetarian, non smoking household in quiet surroundings.

In exchange for:

Practical assistance and moral support with housekeeping, house & garden maintenance.

Splitting & stacking (more) logs ... plenty of scope in 2 wild acres.

Plenty of time to explore, quiet time, time to persue your own interests.

AN UPDATE – 2 December 2014: WE ARE SORRY BUT WE ARE NOW FULL UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR. Sorry, there are so many great volunteers we would like to host.

We can host one person, a couple, or two friends.

We will always reply but please be patient. We get a LOT of requests.

Generally there is a variety of work to do based upon priority, weather, availability of materials, skills of HelpXers (have & learn!), and our time to do some jobs together.

There are a few things to be getting on with here, depending on priorities, and the weather:

• The priority is looking after a small cottage in the garden we rent out for holidays: preparing it for guests (once or twice a week), welcoming guests

• Completing the ‘lost garden’, see below

• Cleaning, cooking, and gardening

• An ever-changing list of things to do on the house and garden. There is a good opportunity to learn / share skills in decorating, painting, woodwork, plumbing, electrics, gardening.......

• Enjo... more inside

Hello!

We are a super friendly, well run hostel in the gorgeous location of Fort William, known as the adventure capital of the UK.

We are looking for help FEBRUARY TO OCTOBER 2015. You will be doing cleaning and laundry, perhaps some painting, gardening, maintenance and any other general hostel work that ensures the hostel is sparkling and the guests are made to feel welcome.

We would love to hear from any good workers out there who are happy to muck in and do whatever is needed to make this hostel a wonderful place to be.

We ask for around 2 hours per person per day. In return for your help you are provided with: Bed and breakfast (not cooked), laundry facilities and free wifi. You will get one day off a week. If you are two, you will get your own room. You will also have access to our self-catering kitchen. We would like a commitment of around 3 - 4 weeks or more so that you can get involved in the hostel and be a contributing member of the staff.

Feel free to ema... more inside

***** Helpers wanted from late February 2015 *****

We are Yvonne & Matthew Anderson. We run a high quality dinner, bed & breakfast business from our home Melfort House, in the Scottish Highlands. Melfort House is building a reputation for providing excellent food. We have a stretch of foreshore onto Loch Melfort, some native woodland and number of fields and paddocks around the house which provide grazing to livestock. We operate a 54 foot polytunnel which provides us with veg and salad crops for our business and family. We have a guinea pig, cat and 2 dogs.

We would like 2 people (a couple or friends) to help us preferably for 3+ week stays, or longer, from October.
We need helpers who have good English, can be flexible and are prepared to help in the garden, with dog walking and housekeeping, breakfast or dinner service. In return we can offer private, spacious accommodation, all food, laundry and WIFI. We are surrounded by beautiful hills, forests & lochs and a ... more inside
