Sorry we can't take anyone else in September.

We need help in our own large house in woodland garden,on a sloping bank with water and in need of continual maintenance. One side in wooded country, the other behind main street with Edinburgh buses day and night. Lots of community projects to get involved with -see below.

We prefer someone with enthusiasm and some experience of gardening, building or painting is a bonus. If you are interested in local culture and history and are happy to work unsupervised, you'll be needed!

We always need help in the kitchen, with sorting and cleaning as well as working in the garden planting and working the ground for the next season. Chopping wood is part of the routine.

There's a once weekly, not-for-profit shop supplying fairtrade & organic food and goods to our local community.

We still need to waterproof an outdoor kiln room.

We are about 45 minutes from Edinburgh by very frequent bus. Accommodation for 1 or for 2 sharing a room... more inside

This mixed hill farm is home to 6 cows, a bull, two pigs, a large flock of sheep, bees, poultry, ducks, three cats and four dogs with their two owners and quite a lot of wildlife. The farm is certified organic/biodynamic. We use Biodynamic methods, have no machinery and work hard to try to grow vegetables, shiitake and fruit at 650' on a south facing hill in a glorious area of South West Scotland. We welcome non-smoking meat eating or vegetarian help. We are far from shops and transport, quiet - a great place to watch the stars!
In July and August 2014 we are looking for fit people who like to get 'stuck in' as there are some heavy duty jobs, eg shifting old haylage, left over from a very wet winter! In return we offer good food and a beautiful location with nature and history on the doorstep!

A "Natural" Building Project in the Scottish Highlands.

*** Sept 2014 - We are currently away and will be unable to respond to emails until the beginning of October. We are not looking for any more volunteers for 2014. However, we are still keen to talk to anyone, particularly couples, interested in a longer-term placement during 2015. ***

Hi HelpXers,

We live, together with our ten year old mad cocker spaniel, Kim, in a beautiful wooded glen (valley) near a village called Spinningdale about 50 miles (80 km.) north of Inverness in the northern Scottish Highlands. We have a 6 acre (2.4 hectare) former croft (a "croft" is a traditional small Highland farmstead), which we are gradually developing as a Permaculture site. We are surrounded by 1700 acres (700 hectares) of stunning natural woodland belonging to a conservation body called The Woodland Trust. We help look after the woods as Voluntary Wardens.

Jim is an environmental scientist with a particular interest in eco... more inside
