We are living on a 10 acre piece of land, surrounded by the scenic mountains of Cork and Kerry. The Gougane Barra National and the Lee Valley with the beautiful Lough Allua are close by. This is a very rural area and the nearest village is in about 5km distance. The westcoast and Killarney are about 25 km away. There are different kind of areas on different heights on the land. Woodland areas, bogland bits and various types of little fields and gardens. There are also two stoneframed wells, 3 ponds, a pool and a little stream. We have a big multi-functional wooden roundhouse, a changing number of tipis, yurts, bell tents on the land, which sometimes includes a campside for tourists.

Land history, our life and philosophy:

Torsten got this land about 7 years ago and this is the second year that we are living permanently on it. It was a long process to get to this point and we can already feel the difference. We are more connected to the land, more settled and getting more back ... more inside

I run a small part-time thoroughbred breeding concern in Co. Monaghan. I currently have 3 mares and 2 yearlings.

The day starts off with an early morning feed which takes about 45 minutes. The horses are then turned out for the day and the next horse job is a feed at 9pm before the horses are turned out again for the night. Ocassionally if a horse is sick or has an injury it may be confined to it's stable so some mucking-out is required. From November to March the horses are stabled at night so mucking-out duties are required during this period.

I also have a few sheep and 2 cats.

If you are willing to help you will need to be very experienced around horses as the horses are racehorses and they can be unpredictable and are very powerful. In return the horses give you lots of pleasure. I also travel the horses to Stud farms during the year so if you're happy to come along you will get a chance to see some very interesting places. I cannot however offer you horse riding on th... more inside
