We are Marja (finnish sign language interpreter, homemom, from Finland) and Mick (carpenter, from Ireland) and we have two small kids Leo (born 2014) and Luna (born 2016). We live in the countryside in North Karelia 20 km from Joensuu center.

Our project is to build a small straw bale round house to be our home. We have decided to settle down in Finland and after a few years of thinking we decided to build our own home instead of buying an old house. After that decision was made we bought 5 hectares of land in December 2016. We bought it very close (500m) from where we live now and also close to an organic farm Pikkunuppu where Marja has grown up.

We have now cleared the road to the house, gotten building permission and had the trees cut to boards for the house. After we got the building permission we cleared the building plot from trees and we did a natural stone foundation. The foundation of the house is ready as is the foundation for the chimney. This year 2018 is the tim... more inside

we run 4 small cabins with great panorama windows in a remote area of Inari. We do a small amount of Boutique activities like skischool, snow shoeing, icefishing, snowmobiling. We are having around 30 resident husky too. We're very much concentrated for Aurora Boralis observing so this is great place to see them too.
We try to produce as much energy as possible by removable resources that is very hard in winter.
For volunteering there is all kinds of help needing help. From helping in activities to taking care of Huskies. Customer service and good manners are very important too. All abilities for cooking plus. I'd describe the experience teaching, beautiful, arctic and hard.

CALL FOR HELPERS

Our place is located between Turku and Helsinki in the village of Karjalohja on a beautiful hill with a view over fields with crops and horses. Only with a 7 minutes walk you reach the shore of the clean protected Enäjärvi Lake, where we do fishing, rowing, sailing, swimming, picnic, or take tours to the islands. Big forests with berries and mushrooms also surround us. You reach to the Turku-Helsinki express bus stop in 15 minutes with our biogas car. To reach the nearest small village with shop, library, spa, etc. takes 12 minutes by car and 35 minutes on bicycle.

Now this place serves our circle of partners and friends and we hope that one day it can also serve a larger circle. Eventually, it can also become an artist residence and an experimental ground for artistic, ecologic and holistic lifestyle development.

The project
We are developing an old farm into an ecological self-sustainable unit. We are growing biodynamic food and exploring experiments i... more inside

***Many thanks for all your lovely messages! Our house is now full for the summer months.
However, we do still need one or two people to help with apple picking for the last two weeks of September and possibly first week of October. So do come if you feel like picking loads of apples and learning about cider-making!***

We are a family of four (mom, 42, translator; dad, 43, theatrical set designer and doing this and that in the field of culture; boy, 13, into robotics, football, hockey, floorball, mobile and PS gaming; girl, 11, into all kinds of animals, especially horses, cooking, reading, music) who live in a big old house that we are slowly renovating. We also have a little dog.

We need extra pairs hands for all sorts of jobs around the house and garden depending on the time of year and whatever projects we have going on: scraping, painting, cleaning, wall-papering, basic carpentry, yardwork, gardening, basic forestry, chopping wood, cutting grass, picking berries, cherri... more inside

We live in a beautiful place called Savitaipale, in Southern Finland. Our home is located next to the lake Kuolimo and nearest shops are only 200 m away. Nearest city Lappeenranta is about half an hour drive away.

I (Teija) live together with my spouse and we have a dog. We would love to have helper(s) to help us with taking care of the dog when we are at work, cleaning, gardening, wood chopping, small house renovations, warming up the sauna etc. what ever we come up with! Depends a lot on what season it is. You would be helping 4-6 hours per day and have two days off.

We are very interested to meet new people around the world. And also to take you around for some sightseeing on your day off. Check the photos below to see the place we live in!

You would have your own room and rest of the house is common. We have another HelpX host nearby who usually have many helpers, so you can also meet up with them if you want.

If you are interested in staying at our home, feel free ... more inside

Hello! We are a thirty-year-old married couple whose firstborn son was born last year in September. We have been entrepreneurs in our dairy farm for just over a year (34 cows, calves, and young cattle, so a little over 60 head to feed everyday) which offers us a living. Before Mikko's parents retired and we started to hold this farm, we studied (for example, tourism and catering, natural resources and construction), were in paid employment and traveled. We also have 2 dogs and 3 cats, who live inside with us.

Our farm is located in Eastern Finland a small village called Tohmajärvi (fewer than 5000 people) not far from the Russian border. The closest shops are seventeen kilometers away, while Joensuu, the closest bigger city, is 72 km away (nearest airport), the nearest train station is at Kitee about 30 km away. There isn't really public transportation, but we will take you to places every now and then, if needed.

Here, we spend the days quickly in the work of the farm, but w... more inside
