~ ABOUT BOSKANTER ~

We're an educational non-profit that wants to inspire people to become less dependent on fossil fuels by taking life into their own hands. We do this with a number of ecological projects and by creating a place where we can share knowledge through workshops and activities.

- We bake sourdough bread in a wood-fired masonry oven for locals.
- From time to time we organise workshops about baking bread, working with clay, making and using natural paints, and building rocket stoves.
- And there are regular activities here, such as the quarterly Repair Café at which people help each other with repairs, and the monthly Pizzeria where locals meet, and enjoy delicious pizzas from our oven.

Boskanter is a place where you have the opportunity to try new things, experiment, and learn about living in a more simple, sustainable and self-sufficient way. Therefore you can learn a lot here, about all sorts of things: from what it takes to grow your own food to preservi... more inside

Who are we?

I am Julie, a Waldorf high school teacher and a horse trainer and my husband is a contractor. We are both almost 30 years old. After many travels and different projects we are now settling down. We bought and old farmhouse and some land, both in very bad shape. We hope to renovate the house in a sustainable way and use the land to slowly become self-sufficient. This is a long term goal and it will take many years to achieve it.

We do everything ourselves.

So we need help.

We decided to look for someone (or 2) using Help x because we used the site ourselves to travel around and we really loved it.

Are you fond of working in the garden, working on the land, working with horses or building work, or a combination of all of them?

Are you a respectful honest and kind person?

Are you willing to work hard?

Contact us!

What can you expect?

We live in de the house and renovate it at the same time, so be prepared to live on a construction site. You wi... more inside

We are a 34 and 36 year old couple. I am a social worker and my husband is a nurse.
We have been travelling a fair bit as well but now we would like to open up our home to travellers who would like to visit our region in return for some hours of work a day.
We live in a rather small village, Assenede. If you have your own car you can get to Gent (25'), Antwerp (35) and Brugge (40'). A bus takes you in 50' to Gent and with a stopover in +1h to Brugge.

You will be working 4 hours a day. You will have 2 full days off a week.
We will provide you with your own room and 3 meals a day.
The bathroom and other rooms are shared with us.
Minimum 2 weeks stay. Maximum 3 weeks

You will be mainly working outside.
Do some gardening: mow the grass, pick weeds, 'pimp' the garden.
Another task is painting: wooden window shutters and the window frames, wooden garden shed.
Maybe also help a bit with cleaning the garden shed, garage,...
You might also be doing some work inside... more inside

We are hobby farmers as we both have a work outside the house.

APPLICATIONS WELCOME, especially FOR LONGER STAYS

Come live and work in back-to-basics paradise for a while!
This is a healing and inspiring place that is already serving by bringing people together in a most harmonizing way. All people that have been here, go back home a more connected person. When you are volunteering at The Oak, you become part of a small-scale project with a great impact.

Staying for at least two weeks helps to get familiar with the work that needs to be done, although shorter stays are welcomed as well. (There is no max. duration for stays, as long as it feels good to all.)
Wanted from APRIL on: cooks responsible for the kitchen; (ecological) builders and people with carpenting skills. However, anyone who is a bit handy and wants to be part of manifesting this (already) healing project is very welcome!

BACKGROUND INFO
I'm building a hobbitlike, ecological round small weekend house (mainly wood and hempcrete), called Robur at The Oak. The map doesn't... more inside

We're a small cohousing project. At the moment we live with 5 people. All of us have our own activities, we regularly give each other a hand.
Our field is marked on the map. for the address of our home you've to ask.

We mostly need volunteers for the gardening part(see the blog link above) but you can also be involved in other projects like building a treehouse for example or helping ludo with building the sauna.

On our field we grow a lot of different vegetables the whole year through, with the permaculture principles in mind. It's a pick-it-yourself-field, so anybody can come by, harvest and give a conscious donation. besides this we also grow vegetables for social projects, activists, meetings,... . My favourite gardening job is growing vegetable seeds to share.

you're always welcome. there is always something to do.
during the summermonths we organise a couple of events, ranging from pizza and movie nights till ecstatic dance and a permaculture weekend.
