This is an opportunity to sample life in a village situated in south west Hungary, near the border with Croatia. I moved here from Scotland in November 2011 as a way of taking early retirement but would like to do some hobby farming on a non commercial basis.
Ideally helpers should be English speakers who are studying Hungarian or Hungarian speakers who are studying English. The plan is to eventually grow barley, hops etc and set up a microbrewery. This will be a new use for the land, which will need to be prepared. Initial work is likely to include the use of chainsaws, strimmers, rotovators, axes etc. The farm buildings are also in a neglected state so help might be required with repair work. Much of the land is currently planted out with Christmas trees and some of these will need to be removed or transplanted.

Summer and autumn project in a Hungarian ecovillage

Our vision:
To create a common sustainable spiritual place for everybody who is interested in creating together a community garden, finishing house structures, implementing new ‘green’ ideas, meeting like minded people.

We are a few enthusiastic, open minded people living in 50 hectares of land with natural water sources, some houses, huts, spiritually… wanting a more sustainable life with permaculture and organic garden. Perhaps in the future including animals. Evolving processes, depending on our energy, time. finances etc.

This is an ecovillage in Hungary started 12-15 years ago. Since then many things already came into being. The existing guesthouse (30 rooms) is at the center and provides accommodation to many groups which come for workshops and/or retreats over the whole year. We live about 10 miles from the lovely Lake Balaton (known as The Hungarian Sea) and 50 miles from Budapest. We have an old adobe farmhouse which we are currently renovating and 1.5 acres of land, part of which we need help with.

Work includes:
Clearing and planting vegetable beds

Restoring an outbuilding.
Digging a trench to connect mains to sewer system.

We are an English couple in our early forties and have a small dog. We are relatively easy going, chilled out, love animals, and love life in general.

Our little family farm is in the middle ofHungary, Koszarhegy, not far from Budapest, Balaton, or even Croatia and Austria. After my travellings I have just started farming therrefore my main interest is in herbs. Also we have cornfield, and a vineyard where we always need help. You will be requiered to work for 5 hours/day, and you will get a room, and also some healing if you need. I can teach you about herbs and their use.

Our location is between 2 small villages in Tolna county, Hungary, 105 kms from Budapest, the capital. We've a 500 sqm property, an open house, where we build a community of people who believe in self-preservation not only concerning food, but energy and suppliments. We're on the way to form and create our surroundings according to this, it needs a lot of conversations and work as well.
To tell the truth, at this moment we're less a community than a patchwork family trying to find the way to self sustanibility and find other families who are strong enough to believe in that there's life out of the society. We slowly build our "farm", plant our seeds, feed our goats, chicken and our children :). Our place is beautiful.
