Over the last ten years with lots of help from people from HelpX.net we have turned this place from an neglected piece of land to a really neat farm. This season we will be raising chickens, a couple of pigs and a couple of beef cattle plus a large organic garden and a small orchid. We also plan to spend a lot of time this summer working on trails and clearing land. Since 2005 we have had a total of 40+ people come and stay with us. Some come for as little as a week and others came for the season. Several helpers have even come back year after year. Located in the rolling hills of Prince Edward Island Canada this 150 acre farm has been certified organic. To date we have restored the original farmhouse and built or restored eight out-buildings, including a machine shop, Garage, pigionier(it's a long story) and a several barns, planted large garden and small orchard, made a large pond and cleared some trials in woods. We live centrally on the Island, half way between Charlottetown and Summerside (PEI's largest cities) on 14 acres, with 3 acres in vegetable gardens, and 1/2 acre in strawberries. There are also 4 greenhouses. Two are in production year round, and the other will be used for warm weather crops. Two of the greenhouses are smaller and are used for seedlings.
We have a CSA, a Veggie box program and farm-gate sales. We grow a wide range of vegetables.
We also have some animals including laying hens, meat chickens and pigs. The pigs are pastured raised. We are training some young Oxen this summer.
Throughout the winter months we are harvesting from the greenhouse for veggie boxes and preparing for the next growing season. Work is both indoors and out.
There is always a lot to do. Depending on the time of year, you may help with a variety of tasks such as weeding, planting, harvesting, and preparing veggies for the CSA, feeding the animals, collecting eggs, and other project...
