The Harrison Lewis Centre and subsistence farmstead could use the help of two or more people working together because I can not be in two places at once and there is a small magazine publishing company to look after.

We are a venue for Dalhousie University summer school programs, and are scheduling our own workshops (natural history, homestead and farmstead skills, writing, art, music), retreats, and other activities at the Centre, a folk school of the east. Someone to help with scheduling and promotion of workshops etc. would be great.

Am planting the garden (when the rain lets up) and mowing with a Vido-designed scythe and looking to buy a cow and calf

Have been seeking a live-in couple (if not a couple now, maybe team up with another volunteer) to help maintain the home and holdings, looking after a new puppy, cooking (North American, Asian, European, Mexican); housekeeping; indoor and outdoor chores as weather allows. Fence and gate up-grades, painting – lots to do

If you're interested the ecology of gardening, livestock, family and small scale forestry, we have something for you. We are a lively family living, loving, and learning on a 60 acre, transitioning to Permaculture farm in the foothills of the Cape Breton Highlands. Now in our seventh year of farming, our vision involves working towards sustainable community, honing our craft, sharing our skills, and learning from and with those who come to help us.

Our farm-mates include a herd of Highland Cattle, Suffolk/North Counrtry Cheviot-cross sheep, two draft horses and a Halflinger, laying hens, and ducks and occasionally pigs; and working Maremma/Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs to keep the coyotes, bears and eagles from getting to know the others too well. The animals here are named, respected, and cared for, and all are beginning to play integral roles in the Permaculture approach. If you're interested in working with animals, there are opportunities (depending on the season) to assis... more inside

I have 114 acres, but most is woods. I am a 70 year old man, a woodcarver who goes to craft fairs and farmers markets with my creations, mostly wooden spoons. My 35-year-old daughter, her husband and son live here, too. We have a large vegetable garden and sell some vegetables from time to time, and have had chickens, and hope to again if we can keep the neighbor's dogs from killing them.
I can use help with the garden, and with a couple special projects I want to do, namely make charcoal to hold soil fertility, and make a labyrinth of lilac bushes.
In the winter, or bad weather there is always spoon making, if you're interested.

Come visit Cape Breton and stay in a house built in the late 1800s and still enjoyed by descendants of original residents.

This spring I'm particularly interested in helpers with gardening experience who might like to grow the garden this year.

Wood heated farmhouse, barn, lots of indoor and outdoor work, plenty of choice of tasks, high speed internet, interested in permaculture, co-housing, art, market gardening, small buildings. Near lake, woodlands, interesting community.

Might suit someone looking for a quiet place to write. Or a potter, studio available, with some cleaning up first.

Looking for some general help around the place, from housekeeping sorts of things to building a woodshed and various garden jobs. House could do with some paint if that job appeals to anyone! Prefer helpers looking for longer stays, but open to others.

Not vegetarian but like vegetarian food and all sorts of food from around the world, so happy to let someone else do the cooking if ... more inside

We are a couple (no kids) who've spent the last 10 years in Europe. We moved permanently to this beautiful region of NS in December and have 75 acres of mixed woodlands, pastures, an orchard, some ponds etc. We are private, yet close to scenic Mahone Bay (10mins by car), Lunenburg and the beautiful south shore beaches. We are 1 hour to Halifax. Our home is a traditional Cape dating back to the 1700s.

We have much to do to restore the property and welcome help in the fields, in the veg garden, with fencing and buildings - as well as with our livestock and other miscellaneous farm work. We are intending to operate a goat cheese dairy in the future and so are busy with a growing herd of dairy goats - and their babies. So lots of opportunities to help and cuddle baby goats! There may be opportunity to help with cheese making also if that appeals. We also have a heritage pig about to give birth, and we have baby chicks, chickens and guinea hens. We are passionate about animal welfar... more inside

We are a mid-age couple living in the country 3 km from Wolfville (a small university town), and 1 hour's drive from Halifax. We live in one of the most beautiful and historic areas in Nova Scotia! We have 4 mid-age cats and 1 very friendly dog, as well as a few hens for eggs.
During the spring, summer and fall, George grows and harvests vegetables and herbs. He can always use some help throughout the seasons with planting/seeding, hoe-hoe-hoeing, harvesting, and selling. Of course, there are always odd jobs such as cleaning the yard, stacking wood, painting, etc.
We also operate a small tofu processing facility located beside our house. We sell our products at several stores, restaurants and at the Historic Brewery Farmers' Market in Halifax every Saturday. You may be able to help at the market.

* LET'S GROW SOME BEAUTIFUL FOOD *

Our farm is committed to providing consumers with pasture-raised, heritage products created in a humane and ecologically friendly manner. We strive to use what nature has given us to fuel our bodies, minds, and souls. Our livestock are grass fed and are "corn and soy free" which means that our meat has less fat and is higher in Omega-3 fatty acids than that of commercially raised animals. Our heirloom produce and herbs are grown naturally without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or biosolids and focus greatly on companion planting methods.

We sell meat, eggs, and produce on farm and also offer CSA shares to consumers in the Halifax area. Our livestock that we have on farm include Muscovy Ducks, Katahdin Sheep, Berkshire Pigs, many varieties of Heritage Chickens, and an Alpaca! We are also hoping to get a couple of dual purpose, heritage breed cows this summer to raise for meat and milk production.
