We have a beautiful farm overlooking Kootenay Lake and the Purcell Mountains in the Kootenay area of south-eastern B.C. We are a husband and wife team who raise horses, grow hay, have a small orchard with mainly apple trees and some pears, plums, cherries, and peaches. we want to grow some of our food and are starting a large vegetable garden plus some berry bushes.

There is always help needed to take care of the horses. Other typical projects involve maintaining the fences, gardening, and painting. Depending on the season we may also be harvesting fruit and preserving it. If you are interested in 'food security' you can gain experience with us.

We enjoy meeting people from around the world and making new friends. English is our first language, so if you want to practice your English we would be happy to help you.

If you love horses and being outdoors, you will enjoy staying with us. Our horses are trained for Western style riding using natural horsemanship methods. ... more inside

LOCATION:
We're in Kimberley, BC. A quaint skiing town in the Kootenay's.

ACTIVITIES:
Kimberley is a great location for outdoor adventure and a great place to live! There are lots of trails for biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing. The local hill has some great skiing and snowboarding.

WHAT WE NEED:
We had such a good experience using HELPX in Australia as Helpers that we want to pay it forward and help travellers.

We have a very busy home with two pre-schoolers, we could benefit from help by house cleaning, helping with meals, possibly some after-school care, and occasional babysitting.

Food, housing, and a great cultural exchange would be provided.

Criminal record check required and some experience working with children would be valuable!

ABOUT US:
This is our first time as HelpX Hosts. We have been Woofers and Helpers when toured Australia on motorcyles and we have hosted couch surfers when we were teaching in Perth and Carnarvon in Western Aus... more inside

We (two men, and sometimes our 27-year-old son Etienne, and sometimes an old HelpXer or two who are still coming back) live in a beautiful old log house on a traditional, self-sufficient, Kootenay homestead. We've generally got chickens, sheep, ducks, gardens, fruit trees. We're in a small community surrounded by wilderness: Argenta is a friendly place of 120 people Quakers, hippies and just folks on the northern tip of Kootenay Lake, at one end of the Earl Grey Trail. (You can walk here in four days from Invermere, or come the more usual way by road!)

There's always farm work (gardening, animals, preserving food and lots more) and lots of projects (building, fencing, wilderness trail building...). And, depending on the season, there's hiking, fishing, canoeing, sailing, skiing, skating and skinny-dipping (yup, lots of naked people here) in one of our ponds or in Kootenay Lake. We have a lot of homesteading experience and are very happy to share it. If you happen to be ... more inside
