join us at fable cottage, surrounded by 400 acres of old growth forested park land (the bottom end of denman). Miles of remote beaches, where you will see whales sea lions eagles and all the clams and oysters you can eat.
This house was built in victoria in 1950 and moved to its present location in 1992 by myself and some fine freinds. It is the primary residence on the property but still needs the love and attention of skilled and semi skilled artisans in the fields of carpentry, finishing, and hundreds(thousands?) of small details... We have recently added one llama, two sheep, three pigs and ten muscovy ducks to the family, we are now constructing fences and a barn for future livestock. Now have a sweet little caravan for exploring vancouver island.Lots of bicycles, and great trails! Hoping to find travelers who would be interested in helping to renovate, and make comfortable a 1947 aluminum bus and a 1964 barth aluminum trailer for more private work stay accomodatioins

We are a senior couple who live on a small organic hobby farm where we raise poultry for meat and eggs. We also have a few Highland cattle and some ducks which contribute to our organic food supply. The vegetable garden, fruit trees and berry patches provide produce for great meals. There are two basement bedrooms for single or double occupancy and wifi is available. Work consists of general farm maintenance, care of animals and help in the gardens. Work hours are flexible so helpers have an opportunity to take advantage of the many hiking trails, beaches and the beauty of our island. There is a variety of entertainment at the local community center, three pubs and two small shopping centers. Our farm is 5 kilometers away from stores and the ferry to the town of Campbell River. Right now there is clean up to do after winter storms. We have the ongoing chore of cleaning brush from fence lines, a bit of fence repairs as well as other ongoing farm chores .

We are a family of four. Non-Smokers. My husband is an accountant and I am a secretary. We have two pre-teen girls aged 9 and 12, who are active in sports and Girl Guides. We have three cats so I hope you aren't allergic to them. We are avid hikers and we enjoy camping and kayaking. We live in a five bedroom house where you would have your own room (15'x25') and shared bathroom. Shared laundry, and use of the kitchen. We can accommodate vegetarians but we do eat meat. We have different seasonal tasks that are needed either inside or outside, whichever you prefer, for accommodation.

Salt Spring Island is famous for our Saturday Market where everything has been made or grown. The Market is on every Saturday from May Long Weekend, May 25th until October 31st. There is also a farmers market in the summer months on Tuesdays for fresh produce. The Island has a very strong artsy feel and has many Galleries and Artist home tours that are available. I am a full-time artist and my husband is retired. Our lake-front home is in a remote location on Quadra Island with occasional artists visiting or helping with production in the studio. We would like to host a tidy, non-smoker in our home, to help in the studio, with housework and perhaps in the yard. We can only accommodate one person at a time. The studio help requires attention to detail and may involve help with framing, assembling gift cards, or preparing canvases and etching plates. Help with preparation for and perhaps participation in the summer and fall art shows will be needed. Computer skills would be useful with my database and newsletter.
My husband can always use help with the endless yard and house projects and the firewood, but the housework (cleaning) and studio help is our primary need. My website (see link above) can provide more information. A two week minimum stay is required. We have a kayak, and a canoe and an indoor small swimming pool. My studio ho... more inside

We are at the moment full and will not be looking for more volunteers this year. We might be looking for helpers by April 2018.

We are located in Sandspit, on Haida Gwaii, a remote archipelago in the northern part of BC. We are not located on Vancouver island.

We will be open this winter and will have a few projects for volunteers to work on, from making new garden beds, doing some deep cleaning, to doing renovations around the property.

Bayview Garden is a waterfront heritage home with a three-bedroom cottage separate from the main house.
Cheerful and comfortable, this place is at the shore of beautiful Shingle Bay in Sandspit, Haida Gwaii.
Sandspit offers easy access to tours of Gwaii Haanas, kayaking adventures, fishing charters, birdwatching, and beachcombing.
Since a few years, we operate a small Hostel within the B&B.

As I am also working at the local visitor centre, and am involved in other community projects, I will need help with keeping the place clean a... more inside

I am putting together my homestead on leased shared land. There are 6 family units involved in the 32 shared acres, of which I have use of 3 acres. I live off-grid in a 240 sq ft handbuilt caravan. I am practicing sustainability thru permaculture. my farm garden is beyond organic, relying on natures synergy. I am creating hugelkultur beds and lasagna beds as quickly as possible. It is my dream to grow all my own carbohydrates and livestock food in the near-ish future. This would make me fully self sufficient in food and herbs. also in the dream-works are an outdoor summer kitchen, another woodshed for storage, a solar oven, a solar water heater for the caravan, naturally filled pond/s for gravity irrigation, solar/wood heated outdoor shower and bathtub , a bicycle powered station for food grinding- and electricity production, more food forest which includes the polycultural food and medicinal garden, hoop house, composting toilet, coppiceable windbreaks, stone ridges for heat rete... more inside
