Welcome to our historic herb farm. This magical place is incredibly inspirational, and we (Brea and Todd and 2 young children and our fun-living Farm Manager, Marly) couldn't be more honoured to be the new guardians of this land. This history here is rich – this is after all rumoured to be the location of Saanichton’s first schoolhouse and more recently is where Noel Richardson wrote her 4 famous cookbooks and contributed to CityFood Magazine for years while peering out over the spectacular gardens. Her husband, Andrew Yeomen, was also an author and amazing gardener. Together they created a very special place that at the time (1979 until 2014) required from them a significant leap of faith and subsequently plunged them into the world of organic farming. An adventure like theirs has been something that Brea has dreamed about since childhood, and for her the reality of living this dream is much sweeter then she could ever have imagined. Able to host helpx travellers as of June 2017.

We live in a new townhouse in Langford, just a short walk from a lake, hiking trails, some shopping, and restaurants. Bus routes, biking trails, and occasionally the family car are available for excursions in the area, including downtown Victoria, beaches, and forests.

We are a family of four, with three young children involved in a variety of activities.

We require: a patient individual who is good with children and who does not smoke. In exchange for your stay, you would provide childcare, meal prep/cleanup and assist with random household tasks based on skills, interests, and time (mending? dusting? windows? organizing? errands? French tutoring? What's your passion?).

Duration: 2 weeks to 6 months, negotiable, 5 hours/day with 2 days off, or an agreed upon format that is roughly 25 hours/week.

We are still in the initial set up phase and are looking for someone to help with the farm chores as well as building projects, gardening, firewood and general farm and garden work. We are full time farmers and have 5 children. For accommodation you would have a private room in a cute little mobile home about a 10 minute walk away from the main farm. Wow, exploring right outside our backdoor along side the Campbell River is a beautiful place to experience Spring and Vancouver Island's great outdoors!!! Although we live on a one acre town lot, our back yard is situated on a cliff over looking an accessible beautiful heritage river, with a nature park setting of ferns, douglas firs, maples and alder trees. You can often see deer, raccoons, bears and the silver backs of salmon and Steelhead fish jumping in the ebb and flow of the river’s pools. We have trail access to the river below, where you can enjoy listening to the sing song of many birds, tubing down the river/swimming in the heat of the summer, and trying your hand at casting for Steelhead fish. As well, our neighborhood is the access point to many scenic nature walking and biking trails. The 1st three photos are at our home and the others are nearby nearby trails and local vista... more inside

Hello wonderful Helpx community:-) We are a family of 5 living near Victoria on beautiful Vancouver Island. In the past, we have traveled extensively, but we just moved into our dream home, and now with small children we are feeling a need to travel vicariously through others and meet some fabulous people. We have met so many wonderful people through helpx!

Our new home has spectacular views, a hot tub and absolutely amazing hiking trails near by. Sooke is 13 km away, and Victoria is 30 km away. The surrounding area is fantastic - ocean beaches and lakes within a few km, many parks, and a great trail system. We have a resident owl who routinely serenades us. Bus service is available, but limited. Crispin drives into Victoria daily for work, so carpooling could be a option.

Our lovely guest room is very comfortable, and has views across the garden and into the surrounding forest. Laundry and Wifi are available. We would be also open to hosting a family with children. ... more inside
