Welcome to our historic herb farm. This magical place is incredibly inspirational, and we (Brea and Todd and 2 young children and our fun-living Farm Manager, Marly) couldn't be more honoured to be the new guardians of this land. This history here is rich – this is after all rumoured to be the location of Saanichton’s first schoolhouse and more recently is where Noel Richardson wrote her 4 famous cookbooks and contributed to CityFood Magazine for years while peering out over the spectacular gardens. Her husband, Andrew Yeomen, was also an author and amazing gardener. Together they created a very special place that at the time (1979 until 2014) required from them a significant leap of faith and subsequently plunged them into the world of organic farming. An adventure like theirs has been something that Brea has dreamed about since childhood, and for her the reality of living this dream is much sweeter then she could ever have imagined. Please see our website and facebook page for mor... more inside

We're a couple of young guys (Josh and Troy) who just bought 186 acres of land on the west coast of Vancouver Island, along the Tahsis Inlet. There's about 2 km of oceanfront along the land and endless back country to explore.

We are building cabins, converting land into pasture for farming, preparing to have animals, fishing and exploring this new home.

There are usually anywhere from 4 to 10 people here in their 20s and early 30s and it's a fun time building stuff and making friends. Local musicians often jam in our workshop and you are welcome to join them.

If you're up for an adventure, and want a break from the standard experience, give us a shout.

Hi! Thanks for checking us out!

*We are currently looking for Helpers starting in JULY!*

We live on a cozy acre of partially forested land nestled in a quiet neighborhood by the sea just 15 minutes from downtown Victoria by bus - 10 minutes by car. Here we keep 20 chickens, 3 ducks, 5 honey bee hives, our loveable Australian Shepherd named Bandit, our 2 cats (R2D2 and Luke Skywalker), and several small gardens.

We are a 2 minute walk from a major bus route into town and are happy to help with transportation ourselves as well. There are also several small beaches and an oceanside park within walking distance!

Our accommodation includes your own private suite with private bathroom and balcony with ocean view. We also have an outdoor Hot Tub, bicycles, and canoes which we are happy to share!

A bit about us:

After spending 2 years living primitively off the land, Travis returned to Victoria to manage a locally owned hobby farm store. He spends his weekdays there and i... more inside

Hello and Welcome to our Farm! We are people of integrity trying to live our lives with purpose, meaning and love. We have an enchanting 14 Acre Farm that we are trying to turn into more of a Healing Haven then it already is. We are a working farm; we have chickens for eggs, goats for milk, as well as a garden and dear cows. We live with our animals and our friends in respect. We are looking for help building up more of what will help us carry out our life missions. We hope to build and improve the outbuildings we have. We also hope to expand our garden and our pastures for our animals. And one day we want to create a space or covered gazebo by our creek for quiet meditation and maybe, one fine day, we want to build a Sauna! In return for your skills we will teach you how to milk, and we would like to teach you a lot about animal care in general (we adore talking about our animals). Also, depending on the season, we can teach canning and preserving, baking, bread making, et... more inside

We are a 66 acre farm in Qualicum Beach, specializing in sustainably and ethically raised chicken, pork and grass fed beef. We also have horses, goats and a jersey milk cow. We are still in the initial set up phase and are looking for someone to help with the farm chores as well as building projects, gardening, firewood and general farm and garden work. We are full time farmers and have 5 children. For accommodation we have a pop up tent trailer. We would need someone willing to help out for 30 hours per week for full room and board. We are located in the heart of one of the most beautiful areas on Vancouver island about 10 minutes from the ocean, lakes and some great hikes.

Hello Helpers!

Welcome to our little farm in 2017! We have room right now! Someone cancelled and we're looking for help preparing the garden for the season! Come join us as spring arrives!

We're a young family (Two adults and a 5-year-old... plus 1 small indoor dog, 1 large outdoor dog, a cat and 37 chickens) keen on creating a haven of organic, sustainable living and food security. We live on 5 acres about 6 km outside of Duncan, on Southern Vancouver Island in the beautiful Cowichan Valley, where outdoor opportunities abound. Besides spending our time developing our land and buildings, Ezra provides residential tree service and also works in the forest industry. He grew up on a ranch "off the grid" and has many skills to share. Hanna is a veterinarian but staying at home with our young daughter for now. We love meeting new people, learning about new ways of looking at the world and new ways of doing things.

We have been on our land for 3 1/2 years. The property came with ... more inside

We are located on Vancouver Island in the foothills below the Comox Glacier, 6 km. from the ocean and have hosted travelling helpers for 15 years. Accommodation is a rustic & basic bright loft in the bicycle building workshop. (Unheated but with plenty of quilts and a hot water bottle, plus the house is warmed with a cozy wood cook stove in cool weather.) We have several garden plots, a greenhouse, fruit trees and a walnut tree. I am a writer, a folk musician and I am studying Hindi and Ross is a peace activist, a motorcyclist and an alternative bicycle designer, specializing in power assist and recumbent bicycles. The jobs depend on the season and include general gardening work such as compost making, planting, weeding, mulching, harvesting, fence repair, plus firewood, bicycle repair, help in the kitchen and occasionally some house work. We eat organic vegetarian meals, fish, chicken and meat. There are wilderness outdoor recreational activities close by, including hiking, skiing,... more inside

Want a truly unique experience? This isn’t your average farm!

Looking for Grounded, compassionate, teachable, hardworking, bright eyed bushy tailed, enthusiastic, non-complaining, self-starting, situationaly aware, positive, grateful, hands-on, clean cut team players.

Woodwynn Farms is a not-for-profit 193 acre Therapeutic Community for the Homeless.
We bought the farm and officially started the project in 2009 with the goal to convert as many people from a state of homelessness to healthy, self-sufficient, community giving, goal achieving, job maintaining citizens of their community.
We are modeled after the world renowned San Patrignano in Italy. www.sanpatrignano.org/en

One very effective way of healing the body and mind is through physical hands on work in the dirt, which is why we operate our Therapeutic Community on rural farmland and not in the city. Our farm is of Historical importance in the area and is an icon on the peninsula where we operate. Up until 2009 ... more inside

Looking for help starting in April! Thank you!

We live on Vancouver Island, not in the city of Vancouver. A ferry from the mainland or a direct flight into Victoria is the best way to get here. It takes about half a day to get from Vancouver city to us in Shawnigan Lake on Vancouver Island. We live in a suburban development in a rural setting. Shawnigan Lake is 45 minutes north from Victoria.

We both work full-time in Victoria, so we are needing help with childcare of our two girls, Sunny, 9 years old and Samantha, 5 years old. Sunny is starting grade 4 and Samantha Kindergarten. Since the girls will be in school during the day, our helper will get them ready and off to the bus for school for 8am and be available again at 3pm to receive them before Tim and I get home from work. During the daytime, we would expect some housework or yardwork to be done and some meal preparation. Besides those hours, the time would be yours to spend as you wish. Evenings and weekends woul... more inside

Hello wonderful Helpx community:-) We are a family of 5 living near Victoria on beautiful Vancouver Island. In the past, we have traveled extensively, but we just moved into our dream home, and now with small children we are feeling a need to travel vicariously through others and meet some fabulous people. We have met so many wonderful people through helpx!

Our new home has spectacular views, a hot tub and absolutely amazing hiking trails near by. Sooke is 13 km away, and Victoria is 30 km away. The surrounding area is fantastic - ocean beaches and lakes within a few km, many parks, and a great trail system. We have a resident owl who routinely serenades us. Bus service is available, but limited. Crispin drives into Victoria daily for work, so carpooling could be a option.

Our lovely guest room is very comfortable, and has views across the garden and into the surrounding forest. Laundry and Wifi are available. We would be also open to hosting a family with children. ... more inside
