"Resident volunteers" from HelpX and Wwoof have been a Godsend to our non-profit working ranch serving children and animals on our 15 acre ranch. When we lost our site development funding the day after 9-11, we thought the ranch would go under. But the children who had been coming to the ranch during after school programs and summer camps refused to let that happen. They gave up their fun time on the ranch riding horses and driving go-carts to work every minute they could to keep the ranch going. They hand dug fence posts, built shelters for the animals and did whatever was needed.

In as much as they loved the ranch, they missed their fun times on the ranch until we got our first "resident volunteer" from Wwoof and more followed who also came from HelpX.

Once we signed up with HelpX and Wwoof, the ranch has continually progressed forward thanks to some wonderful help from around the world.

The kids are so very grateful for all who have come and who have left them with wo... more inside

This is a farm 4 miles inland off the Mendocino Coast. We are in the early stages of a Permaculture installation and would love some steady hands to help keep things rolling! Over the last two years we have been hand digging passive water harvesting earthworks (swales and ponds) and planting them with diverse food forests at three locations here on the coast. The response from the local wildlife has already been radical!

We are also in the process of gathering and breeding hardy, locally adapted
plants and creatures for casual gardeners, homesteaders and backyard farmers alike (self-seeding annuals, perennial vegetables, medicinal herbs, fruit trees and bushes, bantam chickens, icelandic sheep, and honeybees!)

We are on the lookout for someone who would like to learn and partake in Permaculture installations here on the Mendocino coast. Short term work trade initially with long term possibility. Interest and passion are the most important skill sets but it would be rad if y... more inside

We have found a long term helper.

Wanted a helper to live in a warm winter wonderland as nanny/farm helper.

Why you want to come here.

Santa Barbara is one of the most beautiful locales in the world with a very moderate winter. No snow or frost. Our ranch is near some of the worlds best surfing at Rincon Beach. Our property is a 12-acre Organic ranch with ducks, rabbits, goats, horses, dogs and we have a few ideas of animals to add this year. Also I am an expert beekeeper with plenty of my own hives and many clients that I assist. For housing we have a self-contained gypsy wagon style tiny house. Our property is about 1 mile from town and the beach. Please check the 3 websites for info about us.

What I am looking for.

Our family, my wife and I and a 1 year old need an extra set of hands. We need help with cooking, cleaning and watching our little one. The animals need to get feed and the winter garden needs to get planted. My tree nursery has missed me. I... more inside

I have purchased a home that needs lots of help! I am making up this word but it is in desperate need of being "cute-ified." We are close to the base of Sequoia National Park in California's San Joaquin Valley, and a couple hours drive from Yosemite National Park, San Francisco and Los Angeles. My area, in many ways, is considered to be the best place in California to live because we are centrally located. We are 30 minutes from the mountains, 2.5 hours from Los Angeles, and 2 hours from the beach as well as 3.5 hours from San Francisco.

I have worked as a Helper last summer in France so I know that perspective and will be sensitive to that. I am fine with someone staying only a week as I understand this area is more of a launching pad to other areas in California.

My son and I are into sustainable living practices and we do all that we can to preserve the natural resources that we have. Our valley is in the highest stages of drought so we are exceedingly careful w... more inside

We are a family of four in the city of Seattle, Washington. We are interested in hosting a person or two who could help with some general house cleaning, painting walls, and yard work (weed-pulling, sweeping). Our house gets lots of use from kids, friends and our dog. We are just wishing to keep our house looking fresh and ready for fun. Short term stays are best for us (around a week more or less).

Maybe you could do some of the following while you're here:
*run the carpet shampooer
*deep clean the kitchen
*help prepare meals
*throw the ball in the back yard for the enthusiastic dog
*re-grout our tile in the shower area

We have two school-aged kids. We enjoy meeting people from other cultures - it is like taking a trip without leaving home! Our home is near a bus line - 30 minutes to the city center. Walking distance to library, shops and cafes. You are welcome to borrow a bicycle to explore (be prepared for hills!).

We like helpers who are friendly, comforta... more inside

We are currently accepting applications for March to October 2015.

Zigzag Mountain Farm borders thousands of acres of national forest land and features: an organic garden; an original homestead house built in 1909 (currently under renovation), 8 yurts; a wood-fired hot tub; open meadows and forests (walking trails connect the varying mix of conifers and hardwoods); campsites; main living quarters; barn and workshop; and a children's play area. A year round creek flows through the property and our drinking water comes from a natural mountain spring.

What to Expect:
We prefer that you come for a minimum stay of 3 weeks and up to a few months.

Your time will be spent working and learning in the garden, some carpentry projects, forestry work, cooking, helping with events, and basic back to the land skills.

The work expectation is between 30 to 35 hours per week, including domestic chores.
Housing will be in a shared yurt or tent camping. You will have access to indoor... more inside

Doe Bay is a rustic resort and retreat center in the San Juan Islands in Washington State. Located on 35 acres of coastal property on Orcas Island, the Doe Bay community serves as the cultural and social hub of the Eastern side of the island. We operate a bourgeoning seed to table program from our on-site garden that provides many of the ingredients for the vegetarian/pescatarian menu served at the Doe Bay Cafe. The cafe garners a reputation in the region for delicious seasonal and local fare and is a unique gathering place for local islanders, folks from the Pacific Northwest, and guests from around the U.S. and the world. In addition to the garden and cafe, Doe Bay is perhaps most famously known for its hot tubs and sauna. These relaxing amenities overlook Otter Cove and provide bathers a unique view of the San Juan Islands and the Puget Sound. Doe Bay also offers on-site yoga classes, therapeutic massage, and a unique library open to staff and guests. As a Doe Bay work tra... more inside
