"Resident volunteers" from HelpX and Wwoof have been a Godsend to our non-profit working ranch serving children and animals on our 15 acre ranch. When we lost our site development funding the day after 9-11, we thought the ranch would go under. But the children who had been coming to the ranch during after school programs and summer camps refused to let that happen. They gave up their fun time on the ranch riding horses and driving go-carts to work every minute they could to keep the ranch going. They hand dug fence posts, built shelters for the animals and did whatever was needed.

In as much as they loved the ranch, they missed their fun times on the ranch until we got our first "resident volunteer" from Wwoof and more followed who also came from HelpX.

Once we signed up with HelpX and Wwoof, the ranch has continually progressed forward thanks to some wonderful help from around the world.

The kids are so very grateful for all who have come and who have left them with wo... more inside

We are located on Whidbey Island, just north of Seattle. Whidbey is accessible by a short ferry ride in the south (about 30 minutes from Seattle) or a bridge in the north. The scenic little towns have local businesses and provide everything we need. A fare-free bus system connects them and is a great way to get around. The island is host to many tourist events in the summer and provides many outdoor adventures all year long. The cottage I live in overlooks Saratoga passage, a place known to be a favorite of the orca and grey whales. It is also neighbor to an eagle nest and visited by many deer and bunnies. There is beach access close by and a lovely deck to enjoy.

I can offer a loft room with a private bathroom as well as meals. You will have to cook some for yourself but I am happy to discuss ingredients you may like to have around the house. There are also bikes you are welcome to borrow. If I am headed into Seattle, you can come see the sights while I am at work. I would also... more inside

The “farm” is located in the coastal mountain range about 10 miles from the town of Brookings, Oregon. Beautiful ocean views, wonderful climate, this is a true banana belt. Year round gardening is possible here. We are looking for the right person to help with dairy goats and farming, construction skills a big plus and mechanical skills are appreciated also. There are small hoop greenhouse shelters that need to be amended for the spring planting and barns that need tending and we are planning on building new structures.
We provide all meals. We have goat milk(except for 2 months in Jan and Feb), cheese, meat, eggs farm fresh produce and I am a great cook, or so I am told. We grow most of our own meats, poultry eggs, and dairy, and buy as little at the grocery as we can.
There are rivers for fishing and swimming, the ocean is just a few miles away for fishing and kayaking, and beach combing, there are loads of hiking trails and outdoor adventure as we are just a few miles from the ... more inside

We are a semi-retired couple with a 6-acre vineyard in Napa, California. We have enjoyed having Helpx'ers come to the vineyard to help with a variety of tasks. Currently (January-February) John is pruning and we need folks to support this task: clearing the wire of tendrils, using hand pruners; checking emitters on drip system; picking up bundles of prunings and putting in a pile for burning. The tasks shift in March, April and May to shoot selection (thinning of excess shoots, critical to enhance quality)and positioning of the canopy. Other tasks may include helping with veggie beds, setting gopher traps and WEEDING! There is a travel trailer on the premises to accomodate a couple or two singles; bathroom is shared in the barn. We are located fairly close to the town of Napa but there is no public transportation nearby. We can provide transportation to the local bus system. In exchange for room and board, we request 4 full days of work (approx 32 hours) with 3 full days off ... more inside

Please read our entire profile before contacting us about being helpers. There are some we will not be able to accommodate and I would hate to say yes, come stay with us to then say no, it's not going to work out.

I have purchased a home that needs help! I am making up this word but it is in desperate need of being "cute-ified." We are close to the base of Sequoia National Park in California's San Joaquin Valley, and a couple hours drive from Yosemite National Park, San Francisco and Los Angeles. My area, in many ways, is considered to be the best place in California to live because we are centrally located. We are 30 minutes from the mountains, 2.5 hours from Los Angeles, and 2 hours from the beach as well as 3.5 hours from San Francisco.

I have worked as a Helper last summer in France so I know that perspective and will be sensitive to that. I am fine with someone staying only a week as I understand this area is more of a launching pad to other areas in California.

We've had so many wonderful people contact us about helping that our earliest availability is September 2015.

We are a family of 4 (including 2 adult children) living in a restored 1884 Victorian house in Portland, Oregon. We've taken on a new challenge saving and restoring an 1890 Victorian cottage. Someone with general handyman skills will be able to help restore the house including refinishing woodwork, general carpentry and finish woodworking, interior and exterior paint prep work and application, and landscaping. You'll be working along side us for about 4 hours a day 5 days a week in exchange for staying with us in our 1884 home - private bedroom, shared bath with adult sons, meals with us if desired. We are 3-5 minutes from public transportation, on lots of bike routes and near the Alberta Arts District and the Mississippi Avenue area.

We're happy to help others learn or sharpen their English, but we'd also like to learn other languages - Spanish, Japanese, German, ... more inside

Looking for person or persons to work 4 hours a day, 5 days a week in the morning. The rest of the time is your own, and you may do as you like.
Duties would include general yard and garden work. Also cleaning pens and coop, feeding animals, collecting eggs, picking fruit, vegetables, and nuts in the growing seasons. Other times would be general yard, garden or pen cleanup, or help out as needed. House work would be general chores, like sweeping, dusting, dishes. There is always something to do here, no matter what skills you may have.

If you have carpentry, electrical, or plumbing skills it would be a plus. Building, sheet rocking, wall papering, tiling, or finish carpentry would be a huge plus. Our house was never completely finished, because my husband has had 9 major surgeries and can no longer do the work himself.

We have a large vegetable garden 9 months of the year. We also have a green house and will be starting seeds very soon.

Accommodations would be private r... more inside
