August update: This Summer has been full of great helpers! We built a storage shed, an entire garden, put up dry wall and painted in the tiny home. We have done a mirage of home improvement projects and transformed the yard. Oh, did I mention fun? With helpers, we have had numerous campfires, floated down a river in tubes, backpacked to hot springs, gone on a fishing trip, and spent many fun dinner nights together.

We are winding down for the end of the Summer. We won't be hosting any long term helpers, but if you want to stop by for a couple days that would be fine. WE REALLY need an electrician! Also, we need a new duck coop built to accommodate all the ducklings who have hatched out over the last month. If that sounds like a fun project and you have the carpentry skills to build it (with limited resources we have on hand) then let us know!

Hello Everyone,

After a too long time away, my son, Joseph, and I, Nancy...are pleased to offer our home stay here in Southern California.

What we offer is...your own room, all food, great conversation, close proximity to the beaches, mountains and Los Angeles.

What we need in return is light housekeeping, gardening, cooking (my recipes or your own specialties), and dog walking.

Nancy just had knee surgery, so to see these duties fulfilled will garner you effusive praise and a grin from ear to ear.

As always, this is not the place to come if you wish to learn a new skill or do heavy labor...we are more of a cultural exchange opportunity.

We look forward to hearing from you and will reply promptly to all inquiries.

Sincerely,
Nancy, Joseph, and the doggies...(Raleigh, Poppy and Peter Lorre)

"Resident volunteers" from HelpX and Wwoof have been a Godsend to our non-profit working ranch serving children and animals on our 15 acre ranch. When we lost our site development funding the day after 9-11, we thought the ranch would go under. But the children who had been coming to the ranch during after school programs and summer camps refused to let that happen. They gave up their fun time on the ranch riding horses and driving go-carts to work every minute they could to keep the ranch going. They hand dug fence posts, built shelters for the animals and did whatever was needed.

In as much as they loved the ranch, they missed their fun times on the ranch until we got our first "resident volunteer" from Wwoof and more followed who also came from HelpX.

Once we signed up with HelpX and Wwoof, the ranch has continually progressed forward thanks to some wonderful help from around the world.

The kids are so very grateful for all who have come and who have left them with wo... more inside

Sunny summertime is paradise on Orcas Island, Washington State, in the San Juan Island Archipelago. I need helpers as the tourist season has given work to all the locals. The house is finished, now we are painting and cleaning up construction. Please come and enjoy this place. Would love to have Helpxers.. The plumbing is complete now and the basement is available to sleep on mattresses. No camping is necessary.
My cabin was joined by a big house floated by barge from Seattle. Then the foundation and first floor were built under it. We need helpers for one to six weeks to help us finish sheetrock and trim inside the house, scrape, prime, and paint the old cedar shingle siding, set up organic gardens. Work is five hours from 8:30-1:30pm. Afternoons are free. Town is a 15 minute walk. Biking, kayaking, swimming, hiking, or camping in Moran State Park are all good possibilities. We are one block from the public beach, and have beautiful sunset views. We are 1 mile from Eastsound.... more inside

Looking for person or persons to work 3 hours a day, 5 days a week in the morning. The rest of the time is your own, and you may do as you like.
Duties would include general yard and garden work. Also cleaning pens and coop, feeding animals, collecting eggs, picking fruit, vegetables, and nuts in the growing seasons. Other times would be general yard, garden or pen cleanup, or help out as needed. House work would be general chores, like sweeping, dusting, dishes. There is always something to do here, no matter what skills you may have.

If you have carpentry, electrical, or plumbing skills it would be a plus. Building, sheet rocking, wall papering, tiling, or finish carpentry would be a huge plus. Our house was never completely finished, because my husband has had 9 major surgeries and can no longer do the work himself.

We have a large vegetable garden 9 months of the year. This year we have added a whole new section for Spring planting, and will be planting 4 new fruit tre... more inside
