"Resident volunteers" from HelpX and Wwoof have been a Godsend to our non-profit working ranch serving children and animals on our 15 acre ranch. When we lost our site development funding the day after 9-11, we thought the ranch would go under. But the children who had been coming to the ranch during after school programs and summer camps refused to let that happen. They gave up their fun time on the ranch riding horses and driving go-carts to work every minute they could to keep the ranch going. They hand dug fence posts, built shelters for the animals and did whatever was needed.

In as much as they loved the ranch, they missed their fun times on the ranch until we got our first "resident volunteer" from Wwoof and more followed who also came from HelpX.

Once we signed up with HelpX and Wwoof, the ranch has continually progressed forward thanks to some wonderful help from around the world.

The kids are so very grateful for all who have come and who have left them with wo... more inside

At our farm here in the Coachella Valley we grow 5 varieties of dates; Medjool, Barhi, Khadrawi, Halawi & Zahidi....and we also have young plantings of mango, jujube, sapodilla, guava, mulberry, temple orange and sweet lime.

Tasks include: irrigation, pruning, picking, fertilizing, pollination, clean-up, trenching, house cleaning, road repair. Tile setters & concrete workers are appreciated here, and so are nomadic carpenters. We clean our soaking pools regularly.
My hot springs is located in a very remote setting in the Coachella Valley of the southern California desert about 2 hours and 30 minutes from Los Angeles, or 50 miles southeast of Palm Springs, just off highway 111, in the morning shadow of the Chocolate Mountains, overlooking the middle of the Salton Sea, with the warmest winter climate in the western U.S.A.

I live in the city of Eugene near many parks, the University of Oregon, the river, and bike paths. We are about 1 hour from the mountains and the beach. A great place in the summer. I am looking for people who are interested in working on a cob studio. This is my third summer working on it, so hopefully we can finish the cob work on it and in August plastering the outside. If there is time I would like help with touch up painting, gardening, yard work etc around the house in exchange for free room and board. I prefer about 6 hours of work a day but we can work out the details if you are interested.

A. Randy and Susan, the farm owners, have been farming on this property for over 30 years. Randy’s father began planting fruit trees here in the 1970s, and Randy continues that tradition to this day. He is a wealth of information in regards to agriculture, woodsmanship, natural resources, and the local lore of the region and its great outdoors, and is full of many intriguing tales of life in the Sierra foothills. Susan is a wealth of information in food preparation and preservation, homesteading crafts, gardening, and many other activities.

B. The FARM is composed of 10 acres of gently rolling hills on the outskirts of San Andreas, elevation 1,100. On the farm, is the farm owner's home, the Farm House, the market building, two fenced in garden areas of 1 acre each, a 1.5 acre Barbera vineyard, and fruit orchards, all amidst palatial heritage oaks. We use natural farming methods such as cover cropping, crop rotation, compost, manure, and use a some non-organic pest and dis... more inside

We currently need volunteers for July, August, and September. This is a shellfish hatchery specializing in the aquaculture of bivalves, specifically pacific oyster, Manilla Clams, and geoduck. We also culture several species of algae as a food source for our animals. Along with aquaculture we have a working garden which we use to grow vegetables that we incorporate into our meals. We are currently trying to get our garden ready and so garden experience will help. We are located on Hood Canal on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. The area offers beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife, along with many outdoor recreational opportunities. Volunteers will have shared rooms with a shared kitchen and bathrooms. We provide all linens (pillows, blankets, towels). A simple fitness room is available along with an office with computer and printers. There are several common areas. WIFI access is also available but there is no "land line" telephone on site. There are 3 of us who ... more inside
