Hilltop manse surrounded by open space. Requiring yard upkeep, garden and fruit orchard care, and home upkeep. We have 3 very well behaved dogs as well as a cat, and plenty of wildlife outside. We are a family of 6, but only have 2 left living at home. Our home is located in the area known as Almaden Valley in southern part of San Jose. We are an 1 hour from San Francisco, 2 hours from the wine country know as Napa Valley. 40 minutes from Santa Cruz beach. Fat of the Land is in Capay Valley, California and is an expansion and development project of an already existing organic goat dairy in New Mexico. The farm in New Mexico, called Coonridge is an off-the-grid goat dairy with a wild fed, free range herd of about 70 goats that produce Organic Goat Cheese.

At the farm in New Mexico, a variety of herbs and oils are used to flavor the different cheeses, and the goal is to work toward growing all of our own herbs and fruits (from the fig trees we are working to turn into an orchard!) for the cheese in New Mexico, grown on the land in California. Eventually (hopefully next Spring) we'd like to get goats out to California as well. We're also making moves to become a small egalitarian intentional community of no more than 30 people, with other small agricultural business ventures to provide for an income-sharing infrastructure. Interested parties will gradually be coming out to the land over time.

At this early stage in the project, w... more inside

Would love to share one of the prettiest spots in the Pacific Northwest in exchange for helping me on diverse projects. My home is located above the Mission Creek valley on the north shore of Hood Canal, the only fjord in the lower 48 United States. I am adjacent to 23,000 acres of forestland that is open for recreation. The area has many state parks, boating, kayaking, fishing, crabbing, shrimping, hiking, winter sports and ORV opportunities. Seattle is 1.5 hours away, accessible both by car or public transportation including ferry. Tacoma and Olympia are an hour away. Pacific beaches and mountains are only 2 hours away. There is rural bus service, including dial-a ride in the area.

I am offering room and board (focus on healthy local food) in exchange for 24 hours help a week with all sorts of projects. A large, private room with a shared bath would be yours. The house is spacious with wifi, cable, huge kitchen, laundry, treadmill, piano, a workshop and art studio in the maki... more inside

5 acres with beach access on Lopez Island next to Shark Reef Sanctuary (a park where Sea Lions frolic with many small beach coves and amazing views). I am coming from Hawaii and getting to work on this mostly raw land. I envision putting in gardens (organic / permaculture) and orchards and improving places for myself and guests/helpers/wwoofers etc. to stay (as of this writing just an outhouse, outdoor shower, camper and camping spots), while leaving most of the land in it's natural state. Gardeners, treehouse builders, cobb / earth / pole / stick builders wanted. This is a beautiful area however we will be roughing it, staying in a camper or a tent until more stylie digs are created...

Since I am new here, I can refer you to my couchsurfing profile (several all positive references).

"Resident volunteers" from HelpX and Wwoof have been a Godsend to our non-profit working ranch serving children and animals on our 55 acre ranch. When we lost our site development funding the day after 9-11, we thought the ranch would go under. But the children who had been coming to the ranch during after school programs and summer camps refused to let that happen. They gave up their fun time on the ranch riding horses and driving go-carts to work every minute they could to keep the ranch going. They hand dug fence posts, built shelters for the animals and did whatever was needed.

In as much as they loved the ranch, they missed their fun times on the ranch until we got our first "resident volunteer" from Wwoof and more followed who also came from HelpX.

Once we signed up with HelpX and Wwoof, the ranch has continually progressed forward thanks to some wonderful help from around the world.

When a new resident volunteer arrives here on the ranch, I warn them to get their ... more inside
