We are a Jewish am ha' aretz family on a small organic (non-certified) farmstead in the foothills of the Rocky mountains in north-central Idaho. We are near the Clearwater River and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. but our most special crop, and the reason we live the simple life we do, is our children.

Our goal is to raise our family in a healthy, country, close to the earth kind of way. Animals, gardening, baking, herbal remedies, natural food preservation, bio-dynamic gardening methods.... We love having volunteers, getting to know other cultures, sharing stories, and experimenting with new ideas. Plus, the help has been an amazing blessing.

Skills you could learn here, learning about fermenting breads, sourdough, baking in a cob oven, ethical poultry production and gardening, and different methods of making soils more fertile organically.

My wife and I bought a big ol Queen Anne house in Deadwood, South Dakota a few years ago. The town is great, and so is the house, but it needs work. It was vacant for three years before we got ahold of it, and it was in rough shape. So far, we've replaced the roof, shored up the foundation, replaced the plumbing, rebuilt the porches and landscaped. Whew.

But there's still a lot to do. And not only can we use some help restoring and maintaining the house, we're also running the house as a bed and breakfast. That's where you come in. If you're willing to help us out with the house and help us take care of guests, we've got plenty of room for you to stay with us. Here are the kinds of tasks wed be looking for help with:

*Painting, inside and out.
*Oiling & polishing woodwork & dusting.
*Refinishing woodwork (doors, baseboards and trim) - you know, if that's in your wheelhouse.
*Landscaping our small garden beds in the spring & summer, shoveling snow in winter.
*Cleaning! Mos... more inside

We are two wildlife biologists who wear several different hats, which I’ll describe in a very cursory manner. Our main work is as the two biologists that make up our Wildlife Consultants, which means that we are hired by anyone who wants to have us find out something about the wildlife or wildlife habitat that they are interested in.

Our other “hat” is as the biologist hosts of wildlife vacations – a place where we provide a private vacation experience in the wilderness of the Big Belt Mountains to help connect and teach guests about wildlife and bison.

And yet another of our “hats” is as the owners of a bison reserve – a Montana ranch where a herd of bison reside. If you are reading this, then you have contacted us as the owners of our bison reserve because you are interested in volunteering to work with us on either of the last two "hats".

What types of jobs can you expect? Well, this is a ranch. You can expect just about anything! We will supply room and board in exchan... more inside

Small sheep ranch in northern Montana offers hands-on-learning experiences. We run about 75 head of ewes for wool and lamb crops. There is need for sheep herding help in the summer, lambing help during February through April in particular. Shipping is in August. But internships accepted all year. Other ranch activities include plantings for wildlife, fencing, farming, gardening and landscaping, building and repairs. Besides sheep, ranch animals include horses and goats.
UPDATE:
June through the summer and fall, Helpers who have some skills in carpentry, construction, painting, etc. would be appreciated for help with restoration of early homestead barn and shed projects. Also, an overnight campsite for bicyclists would like to be constructed. Jackleg fencing is planned for this campsite boundary.
Summer and fall are wonderful times to spend in this area as time off to see Glacier Park and rodeos, fairs, other events are more easily scheduled.

You can bring your interest in developing a paintball playing field, frisbee golf course and kids bicycle trail.

At the same time we keep the property in shape, care for the animals ( horses, goats, dogs, birds etc), continue putting up shelters, develop permaculture projects, paint, and for ideas pulling tourists for a community venture here.
Stay in a trailer unless the weather isn't suitable; in that case in the house. Wifi.
Any stay 1-21 days.

Non-smokers please (including 420 products)...seriously! Tools can be dangerous enough.
Usually a 6 day week; Sundays definitely off after caring for the critters. We work until about 2 pm ( hour noon lunch-break ) The afternoons and evenings are free. Bikes are available to use to the lake and area. There is no public transport; not necessary.

The town is small and situated in SE Colorado surrounded by ranches and farming; excellent community library. The Rockies begin only 2 hours distant, with Colorado Springs 1 1/2 hour d... more inside

We have a room in our finished basement, that includes a queen-sized bed with heated mattress pad for those chilly nights (as well as all bed linens, towels and bath soaps), space to unpack in the dresser and closet, a desk, and settee. There also is a coffee area/family room and bathroom, down the hall.

Our space accommodates 1 or 2 (and small children if you have them).

We seek help around the house, 2 hours a day in exchange for lodging and breakfast, but other meals are on your own. The time is an average. You could work all day one day and have a few days free. Most of the work we have is household such as cleaning, cooking, and yard work/gardening. Carpentry and household maintenance skills are a plus (we'll include lunch or dinner if you bring this skill).

One week minimum.

We have a friendly dog on the premises and ask that you keep your pets at home.

Also, we do not smoke anything and are drug-free. We only invite those who share our values, that is, no smo... more inside

I have a Ranch with 14 Icelandic horses, did have some breeding, raising, training and now sale some Icelandic Horses, in the south west corner of Colorado, bordering New Mexico Nat. Forest. I am looking for helpers that like to come to the Ranch for working vacations. I am from Switzerland, I speak German and English.
My wish is to find helpers that are already pretty good riders in order to ride the horses, or mainly like to do ranch work. Helpers that love to work with smaller 5-gaited horses, and do like to work outside all day. For riding they need to be smaller people and not heavy in order to ride my Icelandic Ponies, see weight limits on my website. I have a nice little one person bedroom with a queen bed and a bathroom... I offer 3 meals if they do ranch work all day and/or can help training horses. You can help chose from what is in the fridge, and also help with the cooking, this in exchange to help me feed animals and do the clean up first, then train horses, built or f... more inside

We are a 20 acre off-grid, solar powered, fairly remote homestead on the side of a mountain. We are at 4700 feet elevation. We specialize in raising cashmere goats in a holistic manner. We live in a very small strawbale house, cook on a wood cookstove in the winter, electric hot plates and a little propane oven in the summer.
The land is very special around here, with stunning views and no houses in sight, although there are a couple of neighbors not too far away. Wildlife is everywhere, from rabbits and deer, elk and moose, to foxes, coyotes, wolves, bear and mountain lions.
We have gardens, both veggie and flowers, plus fruit trees and berries. 36 cashmere goats, 29 Chickens,32 dairy goats, 1 cat and 3 Livestock Guardian dogs.
There are goat pens to clean, gardens to tend to, and firewood to gather, among other things. We have some building projects planned, too. We're bordered by thousands of acres of National Forest lands, so there are lots of hiking ... more inside
