We are starting a Vineyard, located along the bluffs of the Mississippi River. We have five children that have now grown and moved out on there own. My wife who worked as a Nurse for over twenty years is now disabled and spends most of her time at home ,I do Instrument Work at a local power plant. We could use some help with the Vineyard, but also enjoy fishing and boating on the river. We would be willing to supply your own bedroom, meals. We also have two Collies that love to get brushed and played with. The ideal person would have to be able to work on there own a couple hours a day, weather permitting. There might be a few longer days, but I'm sure that having time off to check out the area won't be any problem. If you would like to e mail us we will show you a couple pictures of our place and the Vineyard. There is a Greyhound Bus Terminal located 15 miles noth of us in La crosse, and if you need we have a couple of bikes to get around with.
Thank You
Michael & Marie

Looking for enthusiastic, young (at heart) people to help me make my homestead more sustainable. Property consists of 23 secluded acres of woods and fields bordered by a river, situated outside a small town in Appalachia. I have a large organic garden, honey bees, chickens, a horse and 4 cats. Accommodations are a private room in Civil War era farmhouse. I need help with everything related to running a small, non-commercial farm.
Learning opportunities abound for anyone interested in heating with wood, including maintaining wood stoves; maximizing food production; rainwater collection; animal care; basic building and maintenance; and fence installation.
I welcome anyone who would like to escape to the country, but still have access to amenities 5 miles away. I would expect a few hours of work a day, leaving you plenty of time to enjoy the area. Food arrangements would have to be worked out on an individual basis. I have two sons, 9 and 12, but otherwise it is very qu...

UPDATE: I (Kimberli) recently underwent surgery on my shoulder and am looking for helpers to be my "other hand". Short term stays of one week to 3 weeks are perfect for us, shorter or longer can be negotiated.
We've recently secured a couple of local restaurant accounts and will be vending regularly at farmers markets and have been doing much more foraging this year -- the oyster and morel mushrooms have been great to us!
We are taking new Helpers for 2013, and can accommodate a single person or couple (no young children).
ABOUT US: We are a somewhat non-traditional married couple who enjoy the outdoors, trout fishing, live music & theatre, camping and foraging. If you come at the right time in the spring, I'll be happy to take you hunting for morel mushrooms and other wild foods.
Matt has studied tracking with Tom Brown and has an active interest in always learning new things. He also speaks some French and a tiny bit of Spanish.
I am a singer, songwriter, gu...

Our farm is a small, 5 acre homestead in southwest michigan approximately 1hr 45 from chicago, 2.5 hours from detroit and about 20 minutes from lake michigan. We’ve just moved here from chicago to make a go of growing wholesome, organic produce focusing on soil health and using compost and as our primary growing medium. By next summer we hope to have a full fledged CSA program in place and seeing what small farm animals we can add as we go along. we've just added one lamb, 11 baby chicks and are getting 25 more chicks, a couple of roosters and 3 baby ducklings. we also have 2 bengal cats "butch" and "boris". We are committed to avoiding the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers and are dedicated to learning and using permaculture practices. there is an amtrak station roughly 10 minutes from the farm and we would encourage our guest to spend some weekends in chicago at our city apartment. todd is a gay male that lives at the farm and katie and laurie are a lesbian couple, stil...

We live in the City of Cleveland, Ohio, a metropolitan region of about 2.2 million people. We are close to Lake Erie, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, great restaurants, arts and culture and professional sporting venues. For more information on the city, visit www.clevelandplus.com. We are looking for help this summer and possibly into fall for exterior painting of a two-story house (scraped, primed and painted) and staining a fence. In exchange for 20 hours of work per week, we would provide a bedroom (shared bathroom), meals, and a friendly and comfortable stay. You would also have full access to our house and plenty of free time to visit and enjoy your stay. We host many international travelers and all of them have had a great experience with us. We have four small children (ages 10, 8, 6 and 4). Non-smokers only. We could accommodate vegetarians but would have difficulty accommodating vegans. Passport number, photo identification and references would be required.
