Located in the foothills of the Appalacian Mountains. Mostly wooded 40 acres with a beautiful stream and pond for swimming. Some land has been cleared for agriculture but this is more of a homesteading experience than strictly agricultural. In addition to gardening this is an opportunity to learn how to drive a tractor, harvest mushrooms, bake bread, use a chainsaw, paint a mural, build a house, help install a microhydro electrical system, cooking, canning and freezing, surveying, etc. etc. Your artistic contributions can also go toward covering room and board.

Facilities for visitors vary from; a room in a shared house, rustic living in a 19th century one room schoolhouse, an "A" frame tiny house or camping. Short term visitors are welcome with camping available and possible work for meals. Long term folks are asked to work 25 hours/week for room and meals. Total numbers of visitors at any one time will be in the 1 to 4 range. "Quickie" trial visits can be arranged.

I have been a helpx-er in the past teaching English in Thailand and Italy as well as volunteer teaching at an ashram in India (see my helpx profile here: www.helpx.net/profile.asp?usercode=1252230NA). I am not a premier host but I am a premier helper so that goes to show I am serious.

Now I, myself, am in need of a helper as soon as possible. I came back to the US several years ago to care for my elderly mother, who passed away the end of February 2017. She left me her small home and there is a lot of work I need to do to update it but, unfortunately, I have back issues and while I am totally functional on a daily level, strenuous (for me) physical work incapacitates me for several days afterwards.

I need short-term helpers, 3-5 days (maybe more if we both agree) to help with things like scraping down popcorn ceilings, painting, etc. If you have some carpentry or electrical or plumbing skills, that would be awesome but not necessary. Just help with the unskilled labor wou... more inside

Need help desperately from hurricane damage

Hi Folks,

Our names are Sid and Susan, we and our four wonderful children work together to run a family farm.
It is our commitment as a family and as individuals to make a difference in the world in every venture and project we participate in.
Our family farm is 30 acres of land with old forest, developed over the years into an integrated whole, with many innovative inner connected systems; we have been in operation since 1983.
We live at the edge of the beautiful, small, old-Florida town of Micanopy,FL. Gainesville,FL is just 10 miles north of us giving you access to a fun college town and many of the world famous springs known for some of the best snorkeling and diving. There are crystal clear rivers as well for canoeing. Our location gives easy access to Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville and the beach; all being two hours from our front door. (We can't always take you around)
We have a native wetland tree nursery , that utilize... more inside

Our family has been in the Carolina low-country since the 1670s, and here on this property since 1827. The farm and family have seen many changes throughout the centuries, and is looking to the future!

An experimental and educational farm, we are working to bring a high level of self-sufficiency/sustainability here and to share our knowledge with our visitors.

This is the farm's 7th year hosting visitors. Thirty-eight countries represented and over 270 guests staying, all have helped make the farm a better place. They have laughed, learned, sweated, grown and eaten some great food. We hope all that spend time here will take something positive away with them. Looking forward to another year of great helpers & guests!

We are a small farm located on 23 acres in the city limits. Our goal is to raise pesticide free, non GMO food. Some of what we cultivate are seasonal vegetables, small pecan orchard, wild grapes and some fruit trees. Our produce goes to Dallas area chefs and is also sold locally. The animals we raise are dairy, meat and pet quality goats, Black Australorp chickens, ducks and we have a small rabbitry. Part of the farmís income comes from a horse drawn carriage operation and the draft horses also have been used on the farm to plow. At this time we are trying to get out of the horse/carriage business and are in the process of selling the horses but we still have a few left. We host an annual "farm to table" dinner in October prepared by a top rated chef with ingredients all grown on the farm. This farm is looking for help 365 days per year and we can accommodate up to 2 individuals at a time either singles or a couple. Housing is a small travel trailer with plumbing, A/C, heat and ele... more inside

We are a gay male couple with a three bedroom two bath house in a residential area of Hollywood, FL. We are 4 miles to the beach in Hollywood, 10 miles south of Ft. Lauderdale and 25 miles north of Miami.
You really have to be an animal lover because we have four dogs: 2 weimaraners, a golden retriever and a Jack Russell terrier as well as a ball python.
Public transportation is available although not as sophisticated as in some larger cities. Our neighborhood is extremely safe and we have lovely neighbors. We also have a hot tub that is great at the end of the day--and clothing optional.
We're mostly looking for just general work around the house and especially in the yard. We have a large yard that is always in need of grooming--mowing, trimming shrubs, etc.
We can also use help with grooming the dogs--not professionally, they just need regular brushing, and help keeping the house clean and dusted is always appreciated.
We can offer a futon bed for two, laundry, wif... more inside
