Located in the foothills of the Appalacian Mountains. Mostly wooded 40 acres with a beautiful stream and pond for swimming. Some land has been cleared for agriculture but this is more of a homesteading experience than strictly agricultural. In addition to gardening this is an opportunity to learn how to drive a tractor, harvest mushrooms, bake bread, use a chainsaw, paint a mural, build a house, help install a microhydro electrical system, cooking, canning and freezing, surveying, etc. etc. Your artistic contributions can also go toward covering room and board.

Facilities for visitors vary from; a room in a shared house, rustic living in a 19th century one room schoolhouse, an "A" frame tiny house or camping. Short term visitors are welcome with camping available and possible work for meals. Long term folks are asked to work 25 hours/week for room and meals. Total numbers of visitors at any one time will be in the 1 to 4 range. "Quickie" trial visits can be arranged.

***Immediate need for any length of stay!

I'm a single guy who's a school music teacher. I have a large house built in 1938 that will need a lot of work! Any kind of help would be appreciated from painting to construction and everything in between. The main things I need help with right now are: painting, minor electrical work (installing a few new outlets, hanging new lighting in basement), some finish carpentry, drywalling, and maybe a little landscaping.

Kingsport is in the Appalachian Mountains. There are lots of outdoorsy things to do including hiking, camping, whitewater rafting, etc. There's skiing within an hour and a half drive during the winter. I’m pretty busy during the week but can usually take time to show you around on the weekends. The general deal is about four hours of work for five days per week, but I’m really flexible. I provide food for every meal and can cook dinner most days. But if you like to cook, more power to you!

I'm open to all kinds of people... more inside

Our small community in the heart of New Orleans is growing and building. Located next to one of the largest city parks in the country and a newly completed linear park and bike trail that ends right at the French Quarter, we've got the best spot in town for a combination of nature/peace/health and city fun! One or two volunteers are needed for help with computer tasks, community gardening, landscaping, construction/building & organizing events. We also assist elders and other neighbors that may need our help. The Center has weekly classes in Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi along with occasional music performances and other special events.

The volunteer work plan will be set at the beginning of each week. Volunteers will be expected to donate a minimum of 20 hours per week (usually 9AM-1PM M-F) in exchange for accommodation. A second option would be Apprentice/Volunteer at 35 hours per week which would include a $100 weekly allowance for food/groceries. Accommodation will be provided... more inside

Located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we are a small farm that raises Belted Galloway cattle, pastured heritage pork and pastured chickens along with a vegetable garden. The farm started as a cluster of cabins built in 1905 that surround a historic “Healing Spring”. Today, people still come to get water from the spring.

We are near many great hiking destinations – Mt. Rogers, Grayson Highlands State Park, Stone Mountain, Doughton Park and just off of the New River with fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Additionally, the Virginia Creeper Trail, Rocky Knob Park and the Railroad Grade trail offer great biking opportunities. We are 10 minutes from the town of West Jefferson with a great Farmers Market and cute town with artisan shops. We are just a short driving distance to Boone, Asheville, or Winston Salem.

2017 was our 1st year hosting HelpXers and we were fortunate to host over 30 different travelers! We had folks from Ireland, France, Canada, Australia, China and Ba... more inside

Hello to all of you and thank you for reading my listing! My name is Alexandra. I've been a helper twice (Thailand and Italy), spent 4 months volunteering at an ashram in India and have worked teaching overseas. I returned to the US three years ago to help my elderly mother who sadly passed away recently. She left me her home and it requires a lot of updating.

I need helpers as soon as possible for things interior painting (ceilings are finished), replacing ceiling fans, etc. This could be for a week or maybe more if we're getting on well and we both agree to extending (so far my helpers have stayed a minimum of 2 weeks!).

I am a certified English language instructor (BA English/CELTA) so if you need practice (or tutoring) with English, I'm more than happy to help with this through daily conversation and/or more formal lessons.

I offer a private air-conditioned bedroom with semi-private bath, unlimited wifi, free laundry and 3 home-cooked meals a day. I also have... more inside

This is a school for sustainable living, a working farm, and homestead. It is located in the Nantahala Mountains on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 10 miles south of the town of Franklin, North Carolina (120 miles N.E. of Atlanta, GA and 70 miles west of Asheville, NC). The center's 32 acres lie in the heart of a small valley with a stream fed by numerous springs and surrounded by national forest. The stream provides water for an off-grid hydro-electric system. The area is home to wild turkey, deer, bear, and has one of the largest diversities of plants anywhere in the world. Huge chestnut stumps, remains of 1800 log cabins, mill raceways, spring houses, century-old farming roads, and old still sites, are reminders of a people and a way of life-based on an intimate knowledge of the environment and those skills needed to survive.

My current plan is to start an Intentional Community. I will also host volunteers who would like to experience off-the-grid living, organ... more inside

Our family has been in the Carolina low-country since the 1670s, and here on this property since 1827. The farm and family have seen many changes throughout the centuries, and is looking to the future!

An experimental and educational farm, we are working to bring a high level of self-sufficiency/sustainability here and to share our knowledge with our visitors.

This is the farm's 8th year hosting visitors. Forty-one countries represented and over 300 guests staying, all have helped make the farm a better place. They have laughed, learned, sweated, helped grow & have eaten some great food. We hope all that spend time here will take something positive away with them. Looking forward to another year of great helpers & guests!

I am looking for one volunteer who is comfortable working with horses. Who would like to learn to raise specialty vegetables for restaurants. Help me with projects on the farm and learn to cook over an open fire. There is $$ for the right person. Looking for a pro-active, enthusiastic individual.
The position is mainly horse riding on a horse ranch and coming to help on my farm (just down the road) a couple of days a week.
If you think you would like to fill such a position, email me for further details about a possible stay.

A description of our Tennessee farm:

We have about 40 working acres on which we grow fruit and vegetables, raise animals and harvest hay.
We also graze a small herd of Belted Galloway beef cows, a few chickens, guineas, geese, peacocks and some heritage breed pigs.

The farm and horse ranch is in a beautiful valley near the Tennessee/Kentucky border with both state and national parks within a 30-45 minute drive. There are acres of land ... more inside
