Located in the foothills of the Appalacian Mountains. Mostly wooded 40 acres with a beautiful stream and pond for swimming. Some land has been cleared for agriculture but this is more of a homesteading experience than strictly agricultural. In addition to gardening this is an opportunity to learn how to drive a tractor, harvest mushrooms, bake bread, use a chainsaw, paint a mural, build a house, help install a microhydro electrical system, cooking, canning and freezing, surveying, etc. etc. Your artistic contributions can also go toward covering room and board.

Facilities for visitors vary from; a room in a shared house, rustic living in a 19th century one room schoolhouse, an "A" frame tiny house or camping. Short term visitors are welcome with camping available and possible work for meals. Long term folks are asked to work 25 hours/week for room and meals. Total numbers of visitors at any one time will be in the 1 to 4 range. "Quickie" trial visits can be arranged.

Our family has been in the Carolina low-country since the 1670s, and here on this property since 1827. The farm and family have seen many changes throughout the centuries, and is looking to the future!

An experimental and educational farm, we are working to bring a high level of self-sufficiency/sustainability here and to share our knowledge with our visitors.

This is the farm's 7th year hosting visitors. Thirty-eight countries represented and over 270 guests staying, all have helped make the farm a better place. They have laughed, learned, sweated, grown and eaten some great food. We hope all that spend time here will take something positive away with them. Looking forward to another year of great helpers & guests!

Greetings from the South’s hidden gem, Little Rock, Arkansas! We are looking for guest volunteers to join us for three weeks to three months in Arkansas’ new and only hostel. We are looking for enthusiastic, outgoing individuals who are interested in the ins and outs of operating a social boutique for travelers. Our ratings and reviews are high, and we are well-regarded in the hosteling community. We are looking to maintain this standard. In exchange for a bed in our co-ed volunteer room (breakfast, coffee/tea, wifi access, laundry and kitchen facilities are also included), volunteers are required to work about 25 to 30 hours per week. We want you to have ample time to interact with locals (through tours of our museum and community events) and travelers who are staying at the hostel. Cross-cultural understanding is extremely important to us. Little Rock is a low-cost MegaBus ride away from Dallas, Memphis, St. Louis & Chicago. Our small community in the heart of New Orleans is growing and building. Located next to one of the largest city parks in the country and a newly completed linear park and bike trail that ends right at the French Quarter, we've got the best spot in town for a combination of nature/peace/health and city fun! One or two volunteers are needed for help with computer tasks, community gardening, landscaping, construction/building & organizing events. We also assist elders and other neighbors that may need our help. The Center has weekly classes in Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi along with occasional music performances and other special events.

The volunteer work plan will be set at the beginning of each week. Volunteers will be expected to donate a minimum of 20 hours per week (usually 9AM-1PM M-F) in exchange for accommodation. A second option would be Apprentice/Volunteer at 35 hours per week which would include a $100 weekly allowance for food/groceries. Accommodation will be provided... more inside

We are preparing for our busy season, and looking for immediate help in the gardens and the lodge.

We are a gay male couple with a three bedroom two bath house in a residential area of Hollywood, FL. We are 4 miles to the beach in Hollywood, 10 miles south of Ft. Lauderdale and 25 miles north of Miami.
You really have to be an animal lover because we have four dogs: 2 weimaraners, a golden retriever and a Jack Russell terrier as well as a ball python.
You also have to be completely SMOKE-FREE. While we respect your right to smoke, we don't want you to share its effects with us, our pets, or our rooms. Therefore we accept only NON-SMOKING guests. This is more than just a non-smoking policy for our property. This means non-smoking during your entire stay with us.
Public transportation is available although not as sophisticated as in some larger cities. Our neighborhood is extremely safe and we have lovely neighbors. We also have a hot tub that is great at the end of the day--and clothing optional.

Need help desperately from hurricane damage

Hi Folks,

Our names are Sid and Susan, we and our four wonderful children work together to run a family farm.
It is our commitment as a family and as individuals to make a difference in the world in every venture and project we participate in.
Our family farm is 30 acres of land with old forest, developed over the years into an integrated whole, with many innovative inner connected systems; we have been in operation since 1983.
We live at the edge of the beautiful, small, old-Florida town of Micanopy,FL. Gainesville,FL is just 10 miles north of us giving you access to a fun college town and many of the world famous springs known for some of the best snorkeling and diving. There are crystal clear rivers as well for canoeing. Our location gives easy access to Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville and the beach; all being two hours from our front door. (We can't always take you around)
We have a native wetland tree nursery , that utilize... more inside

Located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we are a small farm that raises Belted Galloway cattle, pastured heritage pork and pastured chickens along with a vegetable garden. The farm started as a cluster of cabins built in 1905 that surround a historic “Healing Spring”. Today, people still come to get water from the spring and we have renovated the historic cabins and rent them out on a nightly basis.

We are near many great hiking destinations – Mt. Rogers, Grayson Highlands State Park, Stone Mountain, Doughton Park and just off of the New River with fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Additionally, the Virginia Creeper Trail, Rocky Knob Park and the Railroad Grade trail offer great biking opportunities. We are 10 minutes from the town of West Jefferson with a great Farmers Market and cute town with artisan shops. We are just a short driving distance to Boone, Asheville, or Winston Salem.

Bienvenue à St. Martin ! Welcome to St. Martinville!

Would you like to help restore a part of history? Our home on the town square is steps away from Bayou Teche and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While neither elegant nor lavish, our modestly appointed humble home does come with a few interesting architectural details, plus lots of hands-on opportunities for volunteers.

We are primarily interested in help with exterior carpentry and painting, but chores, decorating, and moving furniture also need to be done. Specific duties to be negotiated based on the weather and your interests and abilities. All skill levels welcome.

You will have a full-size futon in the private guest area--curtained off in a large hallway on the second floor--with access to the balcony and a shared bathroom. There is air conditioning and heating, but the temperature and humidity may not always be perfect--this is an old house in South Louisiana, after all.
