I'm a single guy who's a school music teacher. I have a large house built in 1938 that will need a lot of work! Any kind of help would be appreciated from painting to construction and everything in between. The main things I need help with right now are: painting, minor electrical work (installing a few new outlets, hanging new lighting in basement), plumbing, tiling 2 showers, some finish carpentry, drywalling, and maybe a little landscaping.

Kingsport is in the Appalachian Mountains. There are lots of outdoorsy things to do including hiking, camping, whitewater rafting, etc. There's skiing within an hour and a half drive during the winter. I’m pretty busy during the week but can usually take time to show you around on the weekends. The general deal is about four hours of work for five days per week, but I’m really flexible. I provide food for every meal and can cook dinner most days. But if you like to cook, more power to you!

I'm open to all kinds of people, so just drop me... more inside

Our small community in the heart of New Orleans is growing and building. Located next to one of the largest city parks in the country and a newly completed linear park and bike trail that ends right at the French Quarter, we've got the best spot in town for a combination of nature/peace/health and city fun! One or two volunteers are needed for help with computer tasks, community gardening, landscaping, construction/building & organizing events. We also assist elders and other neighbors that may need our help. The Center has weekly classes in Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi along with occasional music performances and other special events.

The volunteer work plan will be set at the beginning of each week. Volunteers will be expected to donate a minimum of 20 hours per week (usually 9AM-1PM M-F) in exchange for accommodation. A second option would be Apprentice/Volunteer at 35 hours per week which would include a $100 weekly allowance for food/groceries. Accommodation will be provided... more inside

This is a school for sustainable living, a working farm and homestead. It is located in the Nantahalla Mountains of the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 10 miles south of the town of Franklin, North Carolina (120 miles N.E. of Atlanta, GA and 70 miles west of Asheville, NC). The center's 32 acres lie in the heart of a small valley with a stream fed by numerous springs and surrounded by national forest. The stream provides water for an off-grid hydro-electric system. The area is home to wild turkey, deer, bear, and has one of the largest diversities of plants anywhere in the world. Huge chestnut stumps, remains of 1800 log cabins, mill raceways, spring houses, century old farming roads, and old still sites, are reminders of a people and a way of life based on an intimate knowledge of the environment and those skills needed to survive.

My current plan is to start an Intentional Community. I will also host volunteers who would like to experience off-the-grid living, organ... more inside

Located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we are a small farm that raises Belted Galloway cattle, pastured heritage pork and pastured chickens along with a vegetable garden. The farm started as a cluster of cabins built in 1905 that surround a historic “Healing Spring”. Today, people still come to get water from the spring and we have renovated the historic cabins and rent them out on a nightly basis.

We are near many great hiking destinations – Mt. Rogers, Grayson Highlands State Park, Stone Mountain, Doughton Park and just off of the New River with fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Additionally, the Virginia Creeper Trail, Rocky Knob Park and the Railroad Grade trail offer great biking opportunities. We are 10 minutes from the town of West Jefferson with a great Farmers Market and cute town with artisan shops. We are just a short driving distance to Boone, Asheville, or Winston Salem.

2017 was our 1st year hosting HelpXers and we were fortunate to host over 30 differen... more inside

Middle aged couple looking for someone longer term to help on small hobby farm (10 acres) in the beautiful mountains of NE Tennessee. We would like help with a small organic garden, animals-- 1 horse, two mini horses, one mini donkey, 11 dogs, 3 Dexter cows, 3 barn cats and chickens. All of our animals are very social and tame. Not your usual farm animals!!! We rescue dogs so one must love dogs to be considered for our home. General chores around the farm and house. Plenty of free time! Average 15-20 work hours weekly. We are both in the medical profession and our jobs often take us out of town. In addition, we like to travel so it might work into being gone for a week or two, and then you would have the place to yourself, (besides the critters). It is a very quiet community. Would prefer someone who has experience living a quiet life. We have two rental cabins on the property so help with hosting these would be an additional task. Our cabins can be viewed on airbnb.com--O... more inside

We are a retired couple looking for help with projectis around the property. Some light construction might be involved,so carpentry skills would be helpful. We live on the banks of a world famous trout stream (White River) in the north central Ozarks in Arkansas. We have a neat cabin next door to our house that would be available. Work would involve working alongside Bill doing improvement projects around the property( fence building, lean to shed construction, limb and brush removal and burning as well as other outside jobs). We plan on working an average of 20 or so hours per week depending on the weather. We will provide lodging in the cabin and a couple of meals a day in exchange for your help. We have 2 large dogs and 4 cats, so loving animals would be helpful and if we had to be gone for a short time, you might be asked to care for them.
