We are always happy to welcome good helpers. Usually, our helpers stay for about 3 months, but we can certainly discuss longer or shorter stays.

We live next to the University of Virginia in Charlottesville - in the heart of Virginia's wine-producing country, surrounded by much of America's early history: four of America's first five presidents lived near here.

The nearby Blue Ridge Mountains offer many beautiful walks and hiking trails for you to explore. In the city, there are wonderful concerts, theaters and cinemas, and over 400 cafes and restaurants. Charlottesville is one of the best small cities in America: in just a few minutes, you can be in the forest, by a river or on top of a mountain! We are 110 miles southwest of Washington DC. I often take our helpers to Washington and for trips to the mountains, the beach and anywhere else you might enjoy.

I run a family building and real estate business. In the gardens, we grow many kinds of fruit and vegetables. I ... more inside

Looking for Helpx guests for the 2018 season, which begins in March and runs through November.

We are not your typical American family, farm stay or community. I garden extensively, have chickens and cattle - somewhat like a homestead. We live in an intentional community of 60 adults and 12 or so kids and teens. We own about 520 acres of land together. Our community is over 40 years old, based on co operative living and decision making, taking care of our beautiful land and promoting land stewardship and harmonious relationships. We live in our own houses and make our livings out in the community or in town.

I always try to have two farm guests at a time, as I think it is more fun for you! If you have a friend or partner, they would be welcome.

Looking for cheerful and honest workers. Please read through my info and if you are interested contact me. I will send you an application and a bio of myself, family, farm and community.
I am retired teacher, artist, farmer and jac... more inside

*Our 2017 season has ended, and we are now accepting internship applications for the 2018 season (May-September).*

We are building an off-the-grid homestead and education center following the principles of organic agriculture and permaculture design. We are situated on 12 acres of field and forest land in the rural hamlet of West Edmeston in the heart of Amish country in central New York.

Interns will gain hands-on experience in organic gardening, natural building, and food preservation. We are seeking interns interested in disconnecting from the mainstream, learning to support ourselves by growing our own organic produce, utilizing natural building methods to construct our barn and dwelling structures, making our own household products like soap and shampoo, reviving traditional agricultural and lifestyle practices, and living in community.

We grow a diversity of annual and perennial vegetables, mushrooms, herbs, and fruits to sustain us throughout the year, and we sell ou... more inside

Volunteers for the 2018 season mid-March to mid-November are now being scheduled. Please send a request to discuss any openings.

SCHEDULE: Typically I host volunteers from late February through mid-November, for stays of 10 to 21 days at a time. Volunteers are expected to contribute about 5 hours per day, 5 days per week, mainly outdoors in the garden, on a DIY project, or household maintenance work. Additionally, help preparing meals and/or kitchen cleanup after meals taken in common is expected.

I have a wide variety of small to medium-sized DIY and home maintenance projects that I expect to work on in 2018. The more typical homesteading projects of gardening, food preservation and poultry keeping will also continue. The homestead/garden work at any given time is determined by season and/or the weather. During summer, the garden work begins in early morning to avoid the hot hours of the day. This work will start before breakfast on the hottest days.

One thing I can advise helpers who want to get a placement with any host is to have at least one PICTURE of YOURSELF. Just as you like to "see" who and where you're coming, hosts like to see who they're opening their home to.
It is Autumn now so there are many things to do outside in the garden I would really appreciate someone who can do handyman jobs and wants to come for a week or two. I do eBay and can also anyone who is experienced at it and/or building websites.
I have a large house and property in a diverse area of Staten Island, New York that I'm always working on.
I plant a vegetable garden in the spring using the square foot gardening method. A friend and I rebuilt the whole house on the inside including jacking it up and replacing the foundation, sills and beams so there's very little major work to be done inside except some finishing work and finish carpentry, moldings and such so carpentry skills would be more than welcome. I have a large extra bedroom for up to t... more inside

We are an eco-village and intentional community of 100 people on 465 acres in central Virginia. We welcome visitors throughout the year to participate in the life of our agrarian, feminist, communal village.

The initial stay is a structured Three-Week Period, during which time visitors take part in our work areas (gardening, food processing, making tofu, weaving hammocks, and a lot more) and also the social life of the community (gathering/parties and activities like yoga, singing, swimming, canoeing, etc.)

You will be housed in a ten-bedroom, two-bath cottage, and may be asked to share a room with someone of the same gender. We provide meals (vegan, vegetarian, meat) and can accommodate some special diet needs. Sorry, no children or pets.

Our farm is located in the beautiful rolling hills of north-central West Virginia. We are secluded, approximately 15 minutes south of the small town of Harrisville. If you travel west for 45 minutes you can reach Parkersburg on the Ohio river. If you decide to travel east, you will arrive in Clarksburg in about an hour. Carl always said he wanted to live in the middle of nowhere...and we're just about 5 minutes from there. We take pride in our farm and after living here for 7 years, we would like some help, not only to maintain the property, but to finish some projects that have been started, but not yet completed. We would like some help with any of the following projects and chores:
Primarily we are a (small) grass-finished beef producer. At least once per day, we must move the cattle to a new section of pasture (a la Joel Salatin). We also move chickens (for eggs and meat) on pasture as well. Working with the livestock is mandatory. We grow excess produce (sold at the local far... more inside
