We are a local Costa Rican family living on a small organic farm. We are in the process of creating a sustainable living susituation by utilizing permaculture techniques, protecting the forrest that surrounds us, and participating in our local economy.

10 acres are dedicated to chemical-free agriculture demonstrating functioning agroforestry and permaculture. Water is plentiful here, thanks to abundant rainfall and the waterfalls of the property. The soil is diverse while rich in minerals is also fairly acidic.
Over the past several years, we are recovering this soil by regularly hand tilling the earth and fertilizing with rich compost produced onsite, including companion plants, and a mixture we make from microorganisms gathered in the forest. We are beyond organic; we are chemical free. Our dedication to chemical-free agriculture extends to our fruits and vegetables. The seeds give birth to a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, spices and medicinal plants. and more.

We are in between Manzanillo National Park and Cahuita National Park and near the Jaguar rescue center. In other words near exquisite beaches and places where you can see exotic animals. There are places to surf and swim and snorkel amongst the biggest and most colorful numbers of fish species in the world. We need people to do basic housekeeping and reception. Some days people make beds for two hours and clean the bathrooms. Some afternoon some volunteers wait for customers for five hours. No one works over twenty hours per week. This is in exchange for accommodation. People come here to learn Spanish or surf or learn about the eco system or to enjoy nature. The volunteers stay in tents within the hotels. There's free WiFi and electricity. Matressing and bedding provided and complete kitchen. Our volunteers also take customers on tours to the most beautiful places, beaches, restaurants and night clubs.

Do you have what it takes to be a hands on hard working helper in tropical Costa Rica? If so, we want to hear from you! This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in gaining valuable experience in ecotourism and would be excited about living in Costa Rica.
Rancho Naturalista offers housing, food, and some birdwatching fun. We are a small Eco Lodge located in the mountains near Turrialba on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. This is also one of the most untouristy areas of Costa Rica! You will really have a chance to practice your Spanish here. A love for birds, animals and nature and an interest in sustainable living is important.
A desire to learn is a basic requirement of everyone volunteering here.
Some of the skills we are looking for in a Helper: We are currently needing someone who is skilled in construction and experienced in building Jacuzzis. We would like to build a natural in ground Jacuzzi and need experienced help with this project. Welding skills are... more inside

We are a Costa Rican family of 5 living and working on a small farm. Located in a lush green valley, we are currently working ˝ a hectare of our 6.5 hectare farm. We are in the process of becoming organic, and are working towards getting organic certification in the near future with your help.

Our dream is to have a fully self-sustainable farm, eventually producing enough to sell locally as well, and to leave a positive legacy for future generations. As volunteers on our farm, you will help us realize our dreams, while we help you realize some of yours!

We have traditional farming knowledge, and are very open to new ideas and projects that can help us utilize the principles of permaculture to make our farm run more efficiently, and with less environmental impact.

We are a short walk away from the nearest town of San Gerardo de Rivas, near the entrance to the beautiful Cerro Chirripo National Park, and one hour (by bus or car) from the city of San Isidro.

Hello everyone!

What we do: We take care of animals, we grow organic food, we prepare and eat tasty vegan meals, we minimize our impact on the earth, and we enjoy the company of our Costa Rican friends and neighbors. We have run a volunteer program for over 7 years, and have had several hundred people come to work with us!

Our farm is an animal rescue, rehab and sanctuary. Our doors are open to animals in need. We currently have 9 rescue dogs, 3 chickens, a goat, a pig, a horse and a cat. Some came off the streets, some were abandoned, others were injured and no longer wanted. We adopt out what we can, but most are “lifers” on the farm.

The property (roughly 3.5 hectares) is covered with many tropical fruit trees, including water apple, mandarin orange, banana (many varieties), guayaba, guanabana, cas, ciamito, lime, coffee and araza. We also put in plant beds with peppers, cilantro, cabbage, tomato, onion, squash, etc. We are 100% organic.

We lead a vegan lifestyle, ... more inside

Nov 2017 - Looking for a person or couple to cook for 10-12 people.

This is a small fruit/herb farm. The natural environment includes 2 creeks, 9 hectares of forest and many different animal species. The house and cabins were all artfully built by hand using wood from the farm or immediate surroundings. The farm is not in a touristy area, but it is easy to get to from the main Caribbean highway. There are river swimming and hiking in walking distance. By bus, the Pacuare white water rafting is easy to do in a day, there is canoeing available on the Tortuguero canals. Cahuita National Park and Puerto Viejo are better done on an overnight trip.

All the tropical fruits, spices and some vegetables are available for your use. I like to start volunteers off with a tour of the farm which includes the small coffee-growing area, the turmeric, ginger, bananas, pineapples, cacao, etc. If there is any fruit or food to be harvested I let the volunteers harvest with my guidance, especial... more inside
