Living with a Costarican family
Located south of Puriscal County, our small town of Mastatal borders La Cangreja National Park. Our farm, strives to build and produce necessities in harmony with the earth while helping both the local community and our visitors live in a sustainable manner.
Marcos and Jenny are the managers from Finca Siempre Verde. A young couple with a big knowledge and love for nature wil show you the real Pura Vida in our country .

Volunteers will participate in both construction and farming projects, and have the opportunity to help care for animals as well.

Previous building projects include a cob ovien, composting toilets, open air showers and tool shed renovation. Presently we are working on a new composting toilet and shower area next to the volunteer lodge.

We also have an art day every week for people to do creative projects and use some of the skills volunteers may have to produce beautiful art around the farm.

We are a local Costa Rican family living on a small organic farm. We are in the process of creating a sustainable living susituation by utilizing permaculture techniques, protecting the forrest that surrounds us, and participating in our local economy.

10 acres are dedicated to chemical-free agriculture demonstrating functioning agroforestry and permaculture. Water is plentiful here, thanks to abundant rainfall and the waterfalls of the property. The soil is diverse while rich in minerals is also fairly acidic.
Over the past several years, we are recovering this soil by regularly hand tilling the earth and fertilizing with rich compost produced onsite, including companion plants, and a mixture we make from microorganisms gathered in the forest. We are beyond organic; we are chemical free. Our dedication to chemical-free agriculture extends to our fruits and vegetables. The seeds give birth to a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, spices and medicinal plants. and more.

This is a 48 acre family farm in San Isidro del General, Costa Rica. The owners, Mario and Rosie are from the USA. Mario is a retired teacher and Rosie is a retired microbiologist and long term organic gardener. Our long term goal is to create a sustainable farm using organic principles. Volunteer opportunities are available now through April 15th, 2017. After April 26th, volunteers will be working with the caretakers to care for the gardens and greenhouses.

LEARNING AT THE FARM: The project offers volunteers an opportunity to learn how to manage a self sustaining organic garden. Using principles of Permaculture, we utilize farm resources in such a way as to build and preserve healthy soil, nutrients and growing environments by making compost, worm compost, saving seeds, plant rotation and using organic growing methods. We are starting a food forest project to increase the sustainability of the farm.

We have a large variety of fruits and vegetables on the farm including coff... more inside

Hello everyone!

What we do: We take care of animals, we grow organic food, we prepare and eat tasty vegan meals, we minimize our impact on the earth, and we enjoy the company of our Costa Rican friends and neighbors. We have run a volunteer program for over 7 years, and have had several hundred people come to work with us!

Our farm is an animal rescue, rehab and sanctuary. Our doors are open to animals in need. We currently have 9 rescue dogs, 3 chickens, a goat, a pig, a horse and a cat. Some came off the streets, some were abandoned, others were injured and no longer wanted. We adopt out what we can, but most are “lifers” on the farm.

The property (roughly 3.5 hectares) is covered with many tropical fruit trees, including water apple, mandarin orange, banana (many varieties), guayaba, guanabana, cas, ciamito, lime, coffee and araza. We also put in plant beds with peppers, cilantro, cabbage, tomato, onion, squash, etc. We are 100% organic.

We lead a vegan lifestyle, ... more inside

We are in between Manzanillo National Park and Cahuita National Park and near the Jaguar rescue center. In other words near exquisite beaches and places where you can see exotic animals. There are places to surf and swim and snorkel amongst the biggest and most colorful numbers of fish species in the world. We need people to do basic housekeeping and reception. Some days people make beds for two hours and clean the bathrooms. Some afternoon some volunteers wait for customers for five hours. No one works over twenty hours per week. This is in exchange for accommodation. People come here to learn Spanish or surf or learn about the eco system or to enjoy nature. The volunteers stay in tents within the hotels. There's free WiFi and electricity. Matressing and bedding provided and complete kitchen. Our volunteers also take customers on tours to the most beautiful places, beaches, restaurants and night clubs.
