We opened November 2011. Our first year we provided 6,820 kilometers of bicycle tours, 512 hours of English classes, planted 360 trees and 242 organic veggie gardens, raised 36 chickens and 5 goats, brought hundreds of participants from 28 different countries into our Partner Communities, benefiting more than 1500 families and dozens of locally-owned small businesses.

During our first year, we removed more than a ton of garbage from our Partner Communities, opened two new Community Centers, provided the first non-profit ecotourism trips to Tikal, El Mirador and, of course, our secret spots all around Lake Peten Itza. With the support of our Partner Communities and hundreds of participants, our first year was a success.

We are a cooperative of Guatemalan women, a registered Guatemalan non-profit and a pending 501(c)3 --- an association of family, friends and neighbors who serve their community and nature. Every cent that enters our programs and projects goes directly to communi... more inside

This is a true oasis in the Cuchumatane Mountains and locally famous for our homemade pies, breads, soymilk, tofu, etc. We operate both a Hostel and a Cafe and are situated in the wonderful town of Santa Maria Nebaj. The business is run by two friendly Guatemalan women who like to have a helper who can speak English with guests. This is the main task along with helping serve in the restaurant during your shift. In exchange for your help, you'll get a good sized private room, 3 meals/day, free laundry, and access to everything the hostel has to offer (hot showers, free wifi, an excellent library, etc.). Popis is a hub of local activity and a great place to be in Nebaj. The position also leaves you with plenty of time to explore the mountains by day or to get involved with other activities here in Nebaj.

Small organic farm on Lake Atitlan looking for helpers with experience in building and farming.

The farm is on a hillside section, with one main bamboo and stone house; a small volunteer house with simple kitchen and bathroom; and a tree house under construction. All bathrooms are composting toilets and there is a solar shower. The property is off the grid, utilizing solar-electric power only. There is no fridge.

We grow a variety of delicious fruits, vegetables, herbs and salad greens using Permaculture systems. Also home grown coffee.

Located on the edge of San Pablo la Laguna, a Mayan village with basic shops and a Sunday market. You can visit San Pedro and San Marcos by boat or tuk tuk within ten to fifteen minutes.

There is lake access at the bottom of the garden, and a canoe for exploring. Also plenty of lovely hikes around the area.

We are a small autonomous collective sharing the responsibilities of a small-scale dairy-goat operation that began in February of 2012. Organic fruit and vegetable farming is also part of our work, but we are depending heavily on the goats to give our lands fertility, a slow process, but we are starting to reap the rewards as we live from the land more and more.

Both native and non-native trees including coffee, avocado, fig, peach, apple, jocote, kushin, lemon, orange, cypress, oak, and pine all grow here. Incorporating permaculture principles is key as we enlarge a section of the land dedicated to the cultivation of bananas, berries, pigeon pea, the native plants chipilin, chaya, and others. There are also gardens of annuals such as sweet potatoes, beans, lettuce, radish, peanuts, sunflowers, and kulish, a delicious native brassica.

We are located near a remote village above the town of Tzununa, on the shores of Lake Atitlan. Access is only by foot and the trek up the hill... more inside

We are a small jungle hideaway located in the middle of the Rio Dulce National Park , between Rio Dulce town and Livingston (Caribbean side of Guatemala). Although it feels like a million miles from anywhere, being just off the popular tourist route between Livingston and the town of Rio Dulce means that the hotel is easily accessible by boat. The hotel has 4 bungalows and a 2-bed dormitory, max 15 persons bed space. We offer drinks, restaurant services, rent kayaks, organize tours etc. We work closely with the local indigenous community. All our electricity comes from solar and we do our best to minimize our impact on our environment.

We are offering a place for an enthusiastic volunteer, willing to engage in whatever needs to be done. All ages welcome, the only proviso is that you must be able to speak Spanish and English, commit to 3 months, are well presented and polite. We are a small (2.5 acre) highly diversified permaculture site located in the rocky coffee valley of Tzununa on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. The terrain is incredibly rocky, and while the area is generally inclined and mountainous, we are on a flat part of the valley floor. We have road access and one boarder of our property is a year round river that is gravity fed through the whole farm. We have volcanic, sandy soil that is high in many minerals and relatively fertile, although incredibly rocky and shallow.

Our main centerpiece operations are greens and goats. We grow a variety of organic salad and cooking greens for sale at various markets. We also have a small but growing goat herd and are now selling milk, cheeses, and yogurt. Aside from this, we also raise chickens for meat and hens for eggs, as well rabbits and ducks. We also raise avocados, jocotes (like a golden plum), coffee, malanga (taro root), various vegetables, sprouts, and several other products. Finally, we brew an... more inside
