We took on the management of the family property and guesthouse in 2016 with a vision of creating a small scale mixed enterprise farm with a focus on conservation, regeneration and self-sufficiency. We grow, make and bake as much of our own food as possible. The second part of this vision is to create retreat style country accommodation and offer training and courses along these lines.
Our farm consists of organic vegetable growing, chickens, geese and have just planted a bio-intensive market garden while we build up capital for livestock as part of our regenerative agriculture ethos.

We are looking for helpers to assist with the day to day operations of the farm and guesthouse. This includes maintenance, building, tree felling, gardening, carpentry, livestock care and management, planting and harvesting on the farm. A 50hectare indigenous forest is home to over 200 species of birds so we would like to maintain existing trails and perhaps set up new walking trails.

We are located on a hill just across from the Beach. Boasting breathtaking views, purest of air and scenery, nestled slightly in a semi-tropical forest by the sea...this is the place which is known for its one-of-a-kind amazing atmosphere, tantalizingly delicious foods, private self-catering cottages, soulful connections, fresh yet traditional outlooks, and its wide variety of endlessly rejuvinating activities like hiking, swimming in waterfalls, drumming, village excursions.. the list is infinite.

Yes... it is a lot of work living in Paradise, but paradise also needs nourishment, care and respect for indigenous landscapes and the original culture of people whom have made this a home to many generations that have come and will forever go on.. with YOUR HELP...

We are a family of 4- mom, dad 10 year-old boy and Granny with 3 dogs, 4 cats and 28 chickens. We have moved to an 8ha property in Baardskeerdersbos rural community at the end of September 2013. We have started from scratch as there were no buildings and no grid power. We are building our own steel-framed, straw bale house with all means of alternative power. On-going work is setting up veggie gardens, orchards and seedling greenhouses to grow fresh produce and seed as part of our income. Our long-term goal is to be self-sustaining.
We would like short-term help building with straw bales, setting up food gardens, repairing fencing, animal care, path making and other daily chores. We offer a private timber bungalow with a comfy queen bed, shared ablutions and meals with the family. We eat mostly simple, vegetarian food with eggs from our hens and occasional meat, and dairy bought in. We would prefer 24 + aged volunteers who can work on their own if needed. As we are fairly remote, c... more inside

Antbear Lodge offers visitors a unique opportunity of a volunteer program for those of you who would like to spend a bit more time being a bit closer to the South Africa lifestyle. Andrew used to volunteer all over the world 30 years ago and loved the experience and this is something he has created to give something back.

Volunteers have 2 options.

1. You can either work together with Andrew doing woodwork and alternative building. Andrew will teach you our unique style of woodwork and alternative building. Passion for this is everything but experience will help too. Its difficult to say exactly what you will be doing but we integrate volunteers into our sustainable projects. Its dusty so make sure you bring cloths you don't mind getting dirty. And this is where I think the real opportunities are to be found and the longer you stay the more you will get from the experience. Once you show you are getting a handle on things you will be responsible your own project.

Our 50 hectare guest farm near Stanford in the Western Cape is nestled in one of the most beautiful valleys just 2 hours from Cape Town, close to the Southernmost tip of Africa. The farm dates back to 1846 and has buildings converted into luxury accommodation for up to 22 people. In addition to our bed & breakfast business, we have a wedding venue and weekend restaurant on the farm. We also keep horses, Nguni cattle, chickens, ducks, dogs and cats!
We are looking for someone or a couple to come and help us with the everyday running of the guest accommodation and restaurant. Would be useful if you have knowledge of horses and are a rider, but not a problem if not. Looking for helpers for our higher seasons to stay for minimum 4 weeks, but we are flexible. Our bar has become popular with the locals and I need help to run it at night. I need volunteers who feel that they can manage late night revelers and who will enjoy the bonus of getting tips, normally 10% of take. Duties start at 4-00 pm.. The nature of the position requires a minimum of a 3 month commitment and I am wanting to fill my roster through to July 2018.

We are currently recruiting for another super high season! We need hands in most departments, front of house, running the adventure centre, housekeeping and kitchen duties. We are also looking for avid gardeners! (removal of alien vegetation and establishing new veg and herb gardens) In return for your services we offer dorm accommodation and during our high season the dorm will be moved to a large military tent. All meals and free use of our adventure equipment like kayaks and stand up paddle boards. You will also have plenty of time to explore our backyard.
