Experience life in the remote village of Supo, Abra in the mountains on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. McTery is a 13-year-old boy who needs tutoring, specifically in learning to read. He attends school but needs more specific instruction in reading in order to catch up with his peers.

I am a middle school teacher from the US and tutored McTery for one month while he was living at another location in the Philippines. I traveled with him to the village of Supo and stayed with his grandparents for a short time. I am hoping to support McTery in his quest to learn how to read but resources are limited in the village. That is why I have set up this Helpx page, to seek international volunteers who would like to experience a rural village while tutoring McTery. I am in touch with McTery's aunt and she has discussed this arrangement with the family. They have agreed to it and are grateful for any help they can receive in helping McTery learn how to read.

A large 44ft timber yacht which may require new crew February 2018 onwards in the Philippines.
The position is for a female waterbaby, prepared to cook and run the galley and who can also help with light yacht maintenance, no experience required.
In return we provide food, accommodation and a chance to live on a boat for a while. Preferably for 1 to 2 months or more.
Yacht is very well founded and Skipper has over thirty years of both local and international experience. Thanks to all that inquired.
Cheers
Michael

P.S. I was a host previously in Australia. My first/oldest 8 reviews below were for when I was in Australia.

Exploring the Philippines on your own and looking for a place to stay safely while planning your nearby travels?

The town of Puerto Galera is located in Oriental Mindoro, the neighbouring island to mainland, from Manila it's only a 2h bus and 1h boat trip (though please allow 5-6h from airport due to connection and waiting time).

We are a German and Filipino couple in our mid-30th who run a beachfront coffee shop, bar and restaurant in the tourist spot white beach and are kept busy at our house in Aninuan, 1km away, by our 3 young German Shepherd dogs.

We are looking for some help in the household, mainly time spend with the dogs and us, but also including some cleaning after the dogs and common household help.
We do not ask for work in our store, this is all handled by our Filipino staff, though feel free to spend time there relaxing at the tourist weekh.

In exchange for your help, we offer you free accommodation in our ho... more inside

Hi, my name is Jordan and my partner is Marix. We both are starting a permaculture farm in Palawan, Philippines. We both are Permaculture Design Certificate holders and we wish to implement this in our lives and share what we've learned. The farm is located on Popototan Island in Busuanga Palawan. Most work will consist of gardening, digging, restoring the fishpond and building simple structures for the farm and beach property. Our goal is to show people an alternative way of living, by reconnecting with nature and being more conscious with all our actions. We are staying in a house in coral bay which is ten minutes walk from the farm. Work is for 2-3 hours per day and 5x a week. Accomodation is free however volunteers have to pay p600 per day to share for the food costs and other household supplies. We serve only nutritious vegetarian and vegan food but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish to eat meat or catch fish just off the terrace of the house. We are living off grid ... more inside

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to look at our volunteer opportunities.

ABOUT US:
Our home is a place to connect with nature and within yourself. Our aim is to provide an area which is deeply connected to the elements and spiritual atmosphere.

We run a business in this area renting cabins which include periodic yoga retreats. The area is overlooking San Fernando City and the South China Sea and include spectacular sunsets and attractive surroundings. We have fresh air and we are away from all the noise and pollution of the city.

The land is owned by Prescilla who was born in the Philippines but has been living in America and various other places in the world and Richard who is American but has lived in the Philippines for the past two years.

WHAT WE REQUIRE:

- We have 5 hectares of land which needs maintaining; weeding, watering and grass cutting as well as small amounts of building work and DIY repair.

Hello! Come and join us in Legazpi City and help us create a green eco-oasis in the middle of the city. We build with natural materials, bamboo, wood and rock and our current project involves building a tree house with zip line running down to the main huts (translation: "kubo" in Filipino).

Our goal is to show the Philippines and rest of the world how easily an environmentally and socially driven project can be created and how the local community can benefit from nature and the materials provided.

We are a fun loving group of individuals. We work hard and we love to play. Take time off to visit the waterfalls, hike up the volcano, hot springs as beaches in the area (and yes whale shark swimming, are not fed in Donsol other can Cebu!) and enjoy interacting with locals to see the real Philippines.

We are already operational and charge our paying guests 350 a night, excluding meals. If you stay on a volunteer basis, we ask a fee of 200 pesos per night for food and board, tha... more inside

We are starting up an eco-garden in a village in northern Luzon island of the Philippines.

The place is very near Vigan UN Heritage Village. The climate is tropical and ideal for getting a good tan.

We need volunteers to help set-up and maintain the eco-garden farm at least 3 hours a day for at least 15 days. They will help in gardening and (a little) carpentry job.

We will provide for place to stay/sleep and training.

If you want to experience a healthy lifestyle - great organic food from our gardens and farm - clean air - close to nature and the beach and learn about organics and healthy living and eating you will be in the right place.

From early 2014 we changed our work arrangement to a casual one so that our guests can be more relaxed and work as they feel or have the energy. To support this and allow us to continue providing great vegi organic meals and good accommodation, we implemented a casual work arrangement (work as you please - no fixed hours)

To accommodate this we implemented a nominal charge of 700 pesos per person per night to cover food and accommodation. Since implementing this our guests have all appreciated the flexibility they have. Now no one feels stressed if they find it too hot to work or need to rest and recoup from tra... more inside

On our Farm we practice organic farming with different permaculture aspects as well as spiritual practices.
Both have to go hand in hand to provide a harmonious living in respect with mother nature and our co-inhabitants.
We do daily regular meditations and Yoga if possible. We expect our helpers to join and participate. Basically, to show an interest in ones own spiritual development.
Some dogs, a cat chicken and a rabbit give us company and need some care taking as well.

We are still a small family consisting of a Swiss/Philippino couple with two baby boys, one is 9years old and the other a just few months. We are also interested to extend our community to a bigger one with similar minded people.

Life is still simple on our Farm, such as outdoor compost toilet and shower, until we have finished our indoor versions.
We have dogs, cats, chicken and a rabbit. If you have any allergies or aversions, please clear details before applying for a stay.
We also have a b... more inside

Sustainable Farming Warriors Wanted: Be Bold And Take The Challenge
To believe is to advocate. Our farm is built around the indigenous farming principles taught us by our forefathers. Partake in all the life giving gifts the land could give you but make sure you leave the environment unharmed. Do not get more than you could give the land back. Take care of the land and the land will take care of you.

If you believe in these principles and are interested to live out how we make these principles alive in our day to day work in the farm, you are most welcome to join us. Immerse yourself in an interactive experience with our indigenous farmers as they show you their knowledge of organic farming and other sustainable farming practices. And yes, see for yourself how they integrate into these practices the conservation of the local flora and fauna. But as you learn from them, they must also be learning from you. It would be great if you could leave your imprints behind. But as import... more inside
