I run private English school for children aged between 10 and 19 years old in a small city in West Sumatra. My goal as the principal of the school is to provide youth from my region with the English skills required to communicate better in the modern world, and therefore provide them with better opportunities in their lives.

I would like to welcome any fluent English speakers under the age of thirty to come assist my teachers in the classroom. You would help immensely by having simple conversations with the students and give them a real English speaking experience inside or outside the classroom.

All the students are very welcoming and curious about my visitors and I am certain that you will have a great experience while interacting with them. You can expect answering all their curious questions, pose for pictures and be invited for lunches, snacks and dinners.

Classes in my school run from 2pm to 6pm and mostly consist of two lessons/classrooms per day. I would also like ... more inside

INTRODUCTION

Hi! I am Abraham. But you can call me Bram for short.

Well, I live and work in a developing city namely Jember in Jawa Timur (East Java). I have been managing a private course which deals with various subjects and English as one of them. And I aim for the improvement of my students' ability in English by involving volunteers.

I am also an English teacher in a formal school in my city. I will invite you to see my school and share some cultural things and skill too.

I eager to offer the chances for volunteers to enjoy and taste the real living of Indonesian and learn how it is to be Indonesian.

We'll start this volunteering program in the mid 2018.

(I see some volunteers are eager to come before mid 2018, in the mid 2018 you'll get free charge of stay from me but before it, I could only give some advice and references of stay which is you need to pay your own expense. I hope this helps you)

This programme was created in 2010 by a small group of English teachers who have been working for several years alongside Native Speakers. The reason that we created this programme is to help the local students and give them the opportunity to learn English with English speaking-people. Cianjur is a non-touristy place with few travellers, so meeting english-speaking people is particularly valued here.
In 2013, we were was recommended by The Lonely Planet Guide Book. The programme was founded by five locals; the team are enthusiastic and passionate about improving the local student’s English.
The team:
Irwan Kumis, who is fluent in English, has been teaching primary school English for 9 years, as well as working for several years as a guide for Western travellers. He previously worked for a German NGO, Forder-und Interessengemeinschaft, as a volunteer in post-Tsunami Reconstruction and Development on Sabang–Weh Island–Aceh. He studied Economics at a University in Cianjur and the... more inside
