Hello everyone!!!!
Namaste!
I live here at an organic farm with Ganesh, my 96-year-old father who passed away in the most peaceful and beautiful way. Sarita, my wife of 48 years and Prakrity (Nature), my 15-year-old daughter.
We started this farm in 1991 with the dream of being organic and self-sustainable.
We have long since achieved that dream and now spread our knowledge and love to people all over the world! I have also been a trekking guide for over 25 years and continue to take trekkers to touristic and non-touristic locations (my favorite!). Plus now we have sweat lodge. Everyday, I dedicate myself to practicing yoga, barefoot jungle jogging and/or sacred Chandi chanting every day, while I am not helping train volunteers in organic farming or tending to the farm myself.

We were recently affected by the earthquakes and are accepting donations to help rebuild. See below an amazing video made by a volunteer here!

If you are interested to teach and help in Government school and gain a memorable experience in your life you are most welcome. Our school is situated in the heart of Kathmandu and founded in 1974. There is an ECD class for Ages 3-5 and then the school teaches ages 6-17 with the running with 200 students. Private schools are more popular compared to the government school in KATHMANDU. However they usually are profit oriented and most of the families canít afford the cost of education in private schools. Our school is an affordable and easily accessible government school and would appreciate any help volunteers can give to improve the quality of education through their unique contributions. Majority of students in this are from working lower class who earn their livelihood thru daily wages workers in constructions, working as maid at home, could be benefitted from foreign volunteers, helping them ideas with the English language skills. English language being universal language in... more inside

Be a part of an innovative education solution!

Maya Universe Academy is a social entrepreneurship project whose mission is to improve access to quality education to rural communities. This is a response to the failed public school system and inaccessible or unaffordable quality education provided in private schools.

Starting from a tent in the jungle with 15 students, founders Manjil Rana and Yoon, opened the first school in Tanahun district in 2011. Today itís the only chain of free private schools where parents can pay in time instead of money by volunteering two days per month at the schools.

The long-term goal is for the schools to become fully self-sustainable through farming business and micro enterprise projects..

Students at Maya Universe Academy follow a unique and diverse curriculum, based on the national curriculum of Nepal and supplemented with various activity-based topics. It emphasizes the importance of community, allows for creativity, independence, an... more inside

If you are interested in learning about Nepalese cultures, cuisines, traditions and festivals, then a homestay is the best way to see the real Nepal. By doing this you will be introduced to a plethora of brand new experiences in an authentic Nepalese environment; rich with culture. An additional plus will be the warm and welcoming Nepalese hospitality at its best within our home.

We have three members in our family: me (Shanker), my wife (Padma) and our daughter (Chun Chun) who is 15 years old. My wife runs a small money exchange office in Thamel, which is about a 20 minutes direct walk from our home. Our home is located in a very safe and peaceful residential area called Gongabu Town Planning, Gongabu. We belong to the Newar ethnic group, who are the indigenous people of Kathmandu Valley. This is only the second school in Nagarkot, nice Nepalese village in Bhaktapur district; a 1.5 hrs bus ride from Kathmandu. It hopes to provide an English medium education for underprivileged children. The school has 7 staff members taking care of its 80+ students - aged from 4 to 12 years old - and would benefit from any help volunteers can provide.

Volunteers can expect to as class helpers and also share teaching tips with the school if they can. Volunteers can also help beautify the classrooms murals to help the kids as visual aids during their school time. Becoming an independent class teacher is also an option for long-term volunteers as soon as they have a grasp on the school's curriculum and vision for students.

Other jobs for volunteers include:
- Writing class exercises and homework exercises for students (we have no printing/photocopying facilities)

- Designing class quizzes and tests

- Introducing interactive, educational games through which children can lear... more inside

Situated on the hillside overlooking the picturesque Shyankhudi valley and the majestic Begnas Tal lake, we are certainly not your ordinary,run-of-the-mill farm.

The farm was started 30 years ago (1987 AD) by my father, Surya Mohan Bastola, and has now become a thriving oasis of plant and animal life.†Overall, there are more than†500 species of plants that have been deemed useful to humans and/or animals. These are mostly made up of vegetables, fruit trees, and medicinal plants. Everything at the farm is†100% organically grown, without the use of any chemical pesticides, fertilizers, fungicides, etc.

All the fruits and vegetables that are eaten on a daily basis come straight from our very own soil (besides the odd addition from neighbours' farms). We also receive fresh milk daily from our two family buffaloes. On special occasions, we may catch some fish from one of our ponds. The diversity and richness of plant life here makes our home the perfect abode for many beautiful bi... more inside
