Need Help for April 2017 onwards!

I can't wait to share my pride and joy with you! I started this hostel with the dream of meeting other travelers and providing them with some of the amenities I thought were missing in New Orleans' hostels at the time. I searched and searched and settled on this home based on its distance to public transportation, its layout, the services offered within such a close proximity, and its location, situated centrally between the French Quarter-Downtown and Garden District-Uptown. I believe working/staying here will definitely allow you to have a great experience in New Orleans.

We usually have 4-6 work/stay volunteers who stay in a private dorm set aside just for them which has a private bathroom. They work around 24 hours per week in exchange for stay.

For staff we usually have 4-6 others besides myself. The hours you are on duty per week really depends on the task we need you for, but at the most its about 24 hours. If you are in the... more inside

Our small community in the heart of New Orleans is growing and building. Located next to one of the largest city parks in the country and a newly completed linear park and bike trail that ends right at the French Quarter, we've got the best spot in town for a combination of nature/peace/health and city fun! One or two volunteers are needed for help with computer tasks, community gardening, landscaping, construction/building & organizing events - we especially need yoga teachers. We also assist elders and other neighbors that may need our help. The Center has weekly classes in Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi along with occasional music performances and other special events.

The volunteer work plan will be set at the beginning of each week. Volunteers will be expected to donate a minimum of 20 hours per week in exchange for accommodation. A second option would be Apprentice/Volunteer at 35 hours per week which would also include a bicycle, plus a $100 weekly allowance for food/groceri... more inside

I'm a guy in my late 20s, and I bought this property in January of 2013. With the help of friends, couch surfers, and lots of wasteful construction sites I have so far built two small shacks, a chicken coop, a tree house, several raised garden beds, a composting toilet and other things all FOR FREE using building materials found in dumpsters. My main project is building a house, also using salvaged materials, but not exclusively. This is a "normal" house, with all the proper permits and code requirements.

I'm looking for people who want to come be a part of the community here, and help with various projects. There are typically between 3 and 12 people living on the property at a time. Some of us (myself included) have jobs which take up a lot of our time. Not only do we dumpster dive building materials, but also food. If you're not okay with eating this "reclaimed" food, you'll have to buy most of your own food.

There is a pretty good mix of skilled work and unskilled ... more inside

This is a fantastical house renovation project in progress. It's a magical and open space that has been created and shaped by the occupants over the last four years. The house already has all regular amenities: kitchen and bathrooms, internet and a washer. It's just a little not finished. Our work continues on the interior and exterior of the house. Check out our facebook page for some more images of the process (and us)!

Tiny Circus, a collaborative project that creates stop-motion animations with community groups is also based out of the house, and there may be some opportunity to get involved.

Helpers will work 3 hours per day (20 hours per week) in exchange for a comfy bed in a shared room and use of the house and kitchen. Internet too! Several bikes are available. Helpers can contribute $20 a week to share staple foods. There are several helper rooms, some are private, some shared. We are looking for folks with a range of skills. Any kind of finish carpentry or... more inside

Hey there! You can check out my couchsurfing profile link above for more details on me, but in short, my name's Danny and I'm a 31 yr old lady. I spent a few years traveling around the world through helpx and I just bought a duplex in New Orleans. It's a short walk to St. Claude and Bywater, and a slightly longer walk to the French Quarter. The house is in pretty good condition, but I'm looking for "handy" people with construction, plumbing and/or electrical experience. There are also some odd jobs that I could use help with around the place, so if you aren't especially handy, I can probably find something to keep you busy.
The main projects I'd like to complete next are:

- Setting up rain barrel system (I have them just haven't connected them to the gutters yet)
- Rebuilding the small storage shed in the backyard
- Putting up a gate on my wooden fence
- Scraping paint off the exterior windows
- Painting the exterior

I have friends with tools, so I think we'd be able... more inside
