Looking for assistance in developing a spiritual retreat. The property is located in SW Louisiana, 3 hours from New Orleans and 2.5 hours from Houston. The property is 2 acres with a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath country home.

We have accomplished much over the last 3 years but there is so much more to do.

I need assistance in small remolding projects, building walking paths, outdoor projects, gardening, general inside cleaning and organizing. Also looking for those creative souls...:) Ready to start a wine bottle wall.

I own 2 homes in south Louisiana, both of which are potentially available for hosting. One is in New Orleans and one in Lafayette, which is about two hours west of New Orleans, right in the middle of Cajun Country. (btw, there's nothing cajun about New Orleans) I live in New Orleans, but I'm from Lafayette and I own a rent house there that I've been renovating since the previous tenant moved out last year.

I guess I should explain what I'm about. I'm 37, single, no kids, easy going, ADD as f******ck, mad scientist/designer, occasional genius, frequent idiot. I'm really into diy public art. I'm co-captain of an independent parading krewe called Interrobang, and we build our floats and contraptions in my backyard shop. Indy Mardi Gras parades are a world away from the big parades, where they dump plastic beads and cheap crap onto the crowd from huge floats that all kind of look the same. Those krewes drop millions of $ to have their parades built by specialized float-building compa... more inside

Hello HelpXers,

Thank you for visiting my page!
I am Sean, and I am the manager of New Orlean's newest hostel.

The house was originally built in 1831. It is beautifully decorated and furnished, describing the architectural characteristics of the old New Orleans' houses. As we are proud of the details of the house, we would like you to enjoy every part of the house.

We would be happy to have a couple more volunteers to help with cleaning, front desk, and/or organize events.
The current team is myself and 7 staff members.
You will be sharing a staff dorm room (2 bunk beds) with other helpers. Breakfast food is always available and Wednesday Jambalaya dinner also free to volunteers. Also I definitely try to treat the helpers to lunch or dinner as many times as possible. There are two different jobs for the hostel to volunteers. 1) Maintenance 2) Front desk. Please indicate the job that you want to apply for on your email.

I need simple assistance with either some very simply carpentry work or some assistance with maintaining a garden. In exchange for work once to 3 times a week, I can offer an infinite amount of housing and possibly food, depending. If you have zero skills and can assist with grabbing tools and giving me advice then I can house you as well. I am not picky. There has been a few people who never did any work due to lack of opportunity, and I was perfectly OK with that. They were still willing to help and that's the biggest part.

We are halfway to becoming completely sustainable and organic. Our poop is turned to soil, our urine is turned to fertilizer, some of our garden plots are turned to crops, and we have parted ways with buying groceries from stores completely for the last three years.

My place does not have the usual amenities most houses do. We poop in an outhouse and have limited electrical/plumbing and zero heat and air conditioning. I tell all my guests that if ... more inside

Our 1,500-acre spiritual and ecological safari park sanctuary in the swampland of Louisiana, is seeking super energetic, enthusiastic volunteers. Engage your mind, replenish your spirit and learn new skills in a wholesome, beautiful environment where accomplishment and learning about yourself go hand-in-hand. Stay for 3 months or more and receive housing, meals, and classes. Help us create an inviting environment through art, landscape, agriculture and architecture. We're looking for people who enjoy expressing their creativity through their work. Our current projects include: building a sweat lodge and meditation yurt to provide Native American ceremonies for our guests; build a greenhouse and make our retreats more self-sustaining/farm-to-table/organic; repair structures that need some loving care; paint buddha/meditation themed pictures on walls; play music for campfire gatherings; learn about our exotic animals and teach our guests what you've learned. We encourage and appreciat... more inside

I'm a guy in my late 20s, and I bought this property in January of 2013. With the help of friends, couch surfers, and lots of wasteful construction sites I have so far built two small shacks, a chicken coop, a tree house, several raised garden beds, a composting toilet and other things all FOR FREE using building materials found in dumpsters. My main project is building a house, also using salvaged materials, but not exclusively. This is a "normal" house, with all the proper permits and code requirements.

I'm looking for people who want to come be a part of the community here, and help with various projects. There are typically between 3 and 12 people living on the property at a time. Some of us (myself included) have jobs which take up a lot of our time. Not only do we dumpster dive building materials, but also food. If you're not okay with eating this "reclaimed" food, you'll have to buy most of your own food.

There is a pretty good mix of skilled work and unskilled ... more inside

Need Help for April 2017 onwards!

I can't wait to share my pride and joy with you! I started this hostel with the dream of meeting other travelers and providing them with some of the amenities I thought were missing in New Orleans' hostels at the time. I searched and searched and settled on this home based on its distance to public transportation, its layout, the services offered within such a close proximity, and its location, situated centrally between the French Quarter-Downtown and Garden District-Uptown. I believe working/staying here will definitely allow you to have a great experience in New Orleans.

We usually have 4-6 work/stay volunteers who stay in a private dorm set aside just for them which has a private bathroom. They work around 24 hours per week in exchange for stay.

For staff we usually have 4-6 others besides myself. The hours you are on duty per week really depends on the task we need you for, but at the most its about 24 hours. If you are in the... more inside

Our place, located in the heart of Cajun and Creole country of Southwest Louisiana, is both old & new (built in the late 1890’s & then we started new in 2006). Surrounded by established farm and ranch lands, we are building a rural cultural and educational center based on permaculture & “transitional community”-oriented ideas and energy. We have some very interesting repurposed buildings on our property, including an historic agricultural plantation. We also have a renovated horse barn and South Louisiana’s premiere underground honky tonk called The Whirlybird. We list on Airbnb, VRBO and TripAdvisor and we use our property for cultural and educational functions. Activities for Helpers: construction, organic gardening, landscaping, pecan orchard development, rain collection program, development of old farm well, cultural and educational programming; such as, workshops, retreats, live music & dancing, storytelling, podcasts, film. We are looking for hard-working and fun-loving ... more inside
