This is a 1 acre former industrial site with a history of a lumber yard and auto repair business. I know of no toxic releases in particular, but it is by no means a natural, healthy site. We will be bringing in soil and organics to cover up the historic, compacted, zombie soil, and making it a thriving, productive, beautiful place.

The aim on this land is to experiment with ways of living that heal and create living systems rather than destroy them and that promote self-sufficiency/skills, freedom, and connection/responsibility/relationship.

I am an hard-working traveler myself, with a wide variety of interests, skills, and experiences. My passion is transforming neglected spaces and objects into useful and beautiful ones. I am currently involved in a project in Southwest Louisiana (about 2 hours west of New Orleans), renovating an abandoned cabin in a sweet little town called Arnaudville. The help needed involves painting, landscaping, carpentry (repairing some windows and doors, building bunk beds, etc.) I am also involved with an incredible place called Nunu's right across the bayou from the cabin. (Nunu's is what drew me to this tiny town). It's a Collective that draws wonderful people with creative energy and diverse cultural, environmental, and artistic projects and there are always interesting things going on there. This part of Louisiana is steeped in French history and tradition which is going through a rich revival. There is much music, dancing, food, friendships. It's a wonderful place. I also write, play mus... more inside

Tea and Tomes is an upcoming bookstore, tea house, and writer's residence just a ten minute's walk away from New Orleans' historic French Quarter, and just a few blocks from the music-rich bars of Frenchmen Street.

We are currently renovating an old house, and there's a lot of work to be done. We have no heat, although we do have cots and blankets, and only now are we getting the walls and structure completley finalized.

In exchange, you get a free place to stay and great food. We generally work 5-6 days a week, with two meals a day cooked by our wonderful chef owner Kat, and breakfast cooked every morning at 9am by me (Tim).

We have a writer's night every thursday, with readings, poetry, and writing critique, and being New Orleans there's no shortage of music and art shows to attend. We generally take people in for a week at a time, sometimes with the possibility to stay longer if the person's an exceptionally good fit. We're especially interested in anyone with construc... more inside

In the rest of the country it is just January. Here it is Carnival Season. Parades, parties, masked balls, and revelry prevail...all leading up to Mardi Gras on Feb. 17. Join us here at IDIT'MIHUAI: International Development Indigenous Traditional Museum & Indian Heritage University Art Institute. Thanks for your interest. This property is a progressive educational venue utilizing heritage and entertainment to develop an appreciation for the preservation, protection, promotion, and presentation of the environmental, historical, and cultural heritage of the area, in order to pass along this heritage to future generations.

It is an edu-tainment venue based upon a modified Mayan Indian and Choctaw Indian theme. Help is needed for supervised work on projects related to modified Mayan architecture, art, and agronomy.

I am a sole operator of a home with an urban completely organic garden in the middle of Lafayette, La, the heart of Cajun country. I'm walking distance and biking distance to awesome music venues and dancing, as well as some great Cajun cuisine if that's your druthers. Plenty of other choices available as well. I need help with cleaning house as I have a B&B, cleaning pots as I have a food business for which I cook for the local farmer's market. I do things unconventionally, and occasionally am experimenting on making a fence that utilizes recycled materials. I have an organic garden so building soil and creating garden beds. Help with keeping up a permanent perennial garden for bees. I grow in organic permaculture beds that always need a little tlc. Fun activities that can be done include art, eating my wonderful food *I'm a GREAT cook*, music venues, dancing, swamp tours. I'll teach you how to make gumbo if you make yourself useful. I have orange, lime, blueberry, and peach ... more inside

I'm a guy in my late 20s, and I bought this property in January of 2013. With the help of friends, couch surfers, and lots of wasteful construction sites I have so far built two small shacks, a chicken coop, a tree house, several raised garden beds, a composting toilet and other things all FOR FREE using building materials found in dumpsters. I have just recently finished obtaining all the permits to build my house, which I have only just started. And I have a big pile of lumber ready to go!

I'm looking for people who want to come be a part of the community here, and help with various projects. There are typically between 3 and 12 people living on the property at a time. Some of us (myself included) have jobs which take up a lot of our time. Not only do we dumpster dive building materials, but also food. If you're not okay with eating this "reclaimed" food, you'll have to buy most of your own food.

There is a pretty good mix of skilled work and unskilled work needed. My mai... more inside
