This is a fantastical house renovation project in progress. It's a magical and open space that has been created and shaped by the occupants over the last four years. The house already has all regular amenities: kitchen and bathrooms, internet and a washer. It's just a little not finished. Our work continues on the interior and exterior of the house. Check out our facebook page for some more images of the process (and us)!

Tiny Circus, a collaborative project that creates stop-motion animations with community groups is also based out of the house, and there may be some opportunity to get involved.

Helpers work 20 hours per week in exchange for a comfy bed in a shared room and use of the house and kitchen. Internet too! Several bikes are available. Food is not included, but helpers can contribute $20 a week to share staple foods, or purchase their own. There are several helper rooms, some are private, some shared. We are looking for folks with a range of skills. Any k... more inside

Sweet guest cottage with a tropical feel, tucked behind the trees on our old Holy Cross rancho. Leafy green grounds and shady screened porch. Cute, functional kitchen with vintage stove and sunny space to lounge or work downstairs. Open sleeping loft and bath upstairs.

Holy Cross is a quiet, laid-back, historic neighborhood. Our place is a mile to Bywater and three to the French Quarter. It's three blocks from the Mississippi River and the best sunset views in the city.

The space

Renovated bargeboard cottage behind the main house on our green, private, 3/4 acre property. A rustic, inviting space full of windows and light. Sleeping loft with Queen-sized bed, dresser, and petite bathroom. Kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, and toaster oven. Delightful screened porch. We renovated the cottage with the help of friends and family from far and wide - it's a quirky, cozy labor of love.

We need help with the landscaping on the property - we are working on dev... more inside

so we've got a house. it barely qualifies as such. there is a roof. and a door that locks. we have a room with some beds that IS INSULATED with AC (wow). we have some couches and some beds. One of us lives in a shipping container. we have holes in the floor. we have room for your tent. we do not have plumbing, though we do have running water. we now have an outdoor shower and a flush toilet. we have electricity but there aint all that much. THIS IS NOT AN AIRBnB. this is roughin' it, this is the edge, the bottom, the strange and the bizarre. we have dogs. and a cat. most of my roommates are animals, though they pretend to humanity. we compost our poop. this is not the bywater. this is not hyland park. this is the gritty part of new orleans. there are potholes and there is poverty. life ain't no fairytale in the upper ninth ward, kids. we like it that way.
Our house is IN THE WORKS and as such we are constantly working on it. we ask that you help us out on whatever projects we're wo... more inside

Our small community in the heart of New Orleans is growing and building. Located next to one of the largest city parks in the country and a newly completed linear park and bike trail that ends right at the French Quarter, we've got the best spot in town for a combination of nature/peace/health and city fun! One or two volunteers are needed for help with computer tasks, community gardening, landscaping, construction/building & organizing events. We also assist elders and other neighbors that may need our help. The Center has weekly classes in Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi along with occasional music performances and other special events.

The volunteer work plan will be set at the beginning of each week. Volunteers will be expected to donate a minimum of 20 hours per week (usually 9AM-1PM M-F) in exchange for accommodation. A second option would be Apprentice/Volunteer at 35 hours per week which would include a $100 weekly allowance for food/groceries. Accommodation will be provided... more inside

This is a 10 acre permaculture farm with a big vegetable garden, greenhouse, bees, 1/3 acre pond, and around 250 fruit trees, i.e. heaven on earth. I am a keen observer of nature, and have great love and respect for all. I've hosted around 70 volunteers for over 5 years, and Have overwhelmingly had positive experiences. There is a lushly gardened around school bus converted into living quarters to accommodate guests. The work is varied and always fun. We do a lot of fermentation, grafting of fruit trees, propagating plants, and garden maintenance. I make sure to teach guests all that I can about gardening and permaculture. I'm looking for passionate, positive, motivated helpers looking to learn more about sustainable living.

I own 2 homes in south Louisiana, both of which are potentially available for hosting. One is in New Orleans and one in Lafayette, which is about two hours west of New Orleans, right in the middle of Cajun Country. (btw, there's nothing cajun about New Orleans) I live in New Orleans, but I'm from Lafayette and I own a rent house there that I've been renovating since the previous tenant moved out last year.

I guess I should explain what I'm about. I'm 37, single, no kids, easy going, ADD as f******ck, mad scientist/designer, occasional genius, frequent idiot. I'm really into diy public art. I'm co-captain of an independent parading krewe called Interrobang, and we build our floats and contraptions in my backyard shop. Indy Mardi Gras parades are a world away from the big parades, where they dump plastic beads and cheap crap onto the crowd from huge floats that all kind of look the same. Those krewes drop millions of $ to have their parades built by specialized float-building compa... more inside
