Our small community in the heart of New Orleans is growing and building. Located next to one of the largest city parks in the country and a newly completed linear park and bike trail that ends right at the French Quarter, we've got the best spot in town for a combination of nature/peace/health and city fun! One or two volunteers are needed for help with computer tasks, community gardening, landscaping, construction/building & organizing events. We also assist elders and other neighbors that may need our help. The Center has weekly classes in Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi along with occasional music performances and other special events.

The volunteer work plan will be set at the beginning of each week. Volunteers will be expected to donate a minimum of 20 hours per week (usually 9AM-1PM M-F) in exchange for accommodation. A second option would be Apprentice/Volunteer at 35 hours per week which would include a $100 weekly allowance for food/groceries. Accommodation will be provided... more inside

Bienvenue à St. Martin ! Welcome to St. Martinville !

Would you like to help restore a part of history? Our home on the town square is steps away from Bayou Teche and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. While neither elegant nor lavish, our modestly appointed humble home does come with a few interesting architectural details, plus lots of hands-on opportunities for volunteers.
(*Currently seeking helpers for June and after July*)

We are native Cajuns (Acadians) who speak Louisiana French, international French, and English. We are glad to help connect you to your favorite activities (music? dance? outdoors?). You can also walk to museums, restaurants, doughnut shop, thrift store, library, convenience stores, post office, tennis, parks, and some local festivals. An awesome new kayak/canoe launch is just one block away.

Looking for assistance in developing a homestead that also serves as a healing sanctuary for those on a spiritual journey or looking to mend a broken heart. The land has a way of holding space for both.

The property is located in SW Louisiana, 3 hours from New Orleans and 2.5 hours from Houston. The property is 2 acres with a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath country home.

We have accomplished much over the last 4 years but there is so much more to do. It never ends and no two days will be the same.

I need assistance in small remolding projects, building walking paths, outdoor projects, gardening, general inside cleaning and organizing. Also looking for those creative souls...:) Ready to start a wine bottle wall. I have hundreds I have collected, some I earned some were donated. :)

I have taken a sabbatical from New Orleans to see this project through . You may share home with other HelpXers. You will connect with Mother Nature and live a simple life style. You will eat well and en... more inside

Our place, located in the heart of Cajun and Creole country of Southwest Louisiana, is both old & new (built in the late 1890’s & then we started new in 2006). Surrounded by established farm and ranch lands, we are building a rural cultural and educational center based on permaculture & “transitional community”-oriented ideas and energy. We have some very interesting repurposed buildings on our property, including an historic agricultural plantation. We also have a renovated horse barn and South Louisiana’s premiere underground honky tonk called The Whirlybird. We list on Airbnb, VRBO and TripAdvisor and we use our property for cultural and educational functions. Activities for Helpers: construction, organic gardening, landscaping, pecan orchard development, rain collection program, development of old farm well, cultural and educational programming; such as, workshops, retreats, live music & dancing, storytelling, podcasts, film. We are looking for hard-working and fun-loving ... more inside

Hello HelpXers,

Thank you for visiting my page!
I am Sean, and I am the manager of New Orlean's newest hostel.

The house was originally built in 1831. It is beautifully decorated and furnished, describing the architectural characteristics of the old New Orleans' houses. As we are proud of the details of the house, we would like you to enjoy every part of the house.

We would be happy to have a couple more volunteers to help with cleaning, front desk, and/or organize events.
The current team is myself and 7 staff members.
You will be sharing a staff dorm room (2 bunk beds) with other helpers. Breakfast food is always available and Wednesday Jambalaya dinner also free to volunteers. Also I definitely try to treat the helpers to lunch or dinner as many times as possible. There are two different jobs for the hostel to volunteers. 1) Maintenance 2) Front desk. Please indicate the job that you want to apply for on your email.

This is a 10 acre permaculture farm with a big vegetable garden, greenhouse,1/3 acre pond, and around 250 fruit trees, i.e. heaven on earth. I am a keen observer of nature, and have great love and respect for all. I've hosted around 70 volunteers for over 5 years, and Have overwhelmingly had positive experiences. There is a lushly gardened around school bus converted into living quarters to accommodate guests. The work is varied and always fun. We do a lot of fermentation, grafting of fruit trees, propagating plants, and garden maintenance. I make sure to teach guests all that I can about gardening and permaculture. I'm looking for passionate, positive, motivated helpers looking to learn more about sustainable living.

so we've got a house. it barely qualifies as such. there is a roof. and a door that locks. we have a room with some beds that IS INSULATED with AC (wow). we have some couches and some beds. One of us lives in a shipping container. we have holes in the floor. we have room for your tent. we do not have plumbing, though we do have running water. we now have an outdoor shower and a flush toilet. we have electricity but there aint all that much. THIS IS NOT AN AIRBnB. this is roughin' it, this is the edge, the bottom, the strange and the bizarre. we have dogs. and a cat. most of my roommates are animals, though they pretend to humanity. we compost our poop. this is not the bywater. this is not hyland park. this is the gritty part of new orleans. there are potholes and there is poverty. life ain't no fairytale in the upper ninth ward, kids. we like it that way.
Our house is IN THE WORKS and as such we are constantly working on it. we ask that you help us out on whatever projects we're wo... more inside

Hey there!
My name's Danny and I'm a 32 yr old lady. I spent a few years traveling around the world through helpx and now own a duplex in New Orleans. It's a short walk to St. Claude and Bywater, and a slightly longer walk to the French Quarter. The house is in pretty good condition, but I'm looking for "handy" people with construction, plumbing and/or electrical experience. There are also some odd jobs that I could use help with around the place, so if you aren't especially handy, I can probably find something to keep you busy.
The main projects I'd like to complete next are:

- Rebuilding the storage shed in the backyard
- Putting up a gate on my wooden fence
- Some finishing work on a renovation project

I have friends with tools, so I think we'd be able to get everything we need for all of these projects. I'm not looking for long term guests - basically, you can crash at my place for a long weekend, maybe up to a week(?) if you can do some of the things on the l... more inside
