Hey there! You can check out my couchsurfing profile link above for more details on me, but in short, my name's Danny and I'm a 29 yr old lady. I spent a few years traveling around the world through helpx and I just bought a duplex in New Orleans. It's a short walk to St. Claude and Bywater, and a slightly longer walk to the French Quarter. The house is in pretty good condition, but I'm looking for "handy" people with construction, plumbing and/or electrical experience. If you don't know how to do any of those things, I don't really need your help - sorry.
The two main projects I'd like to complete next are:

-Replacing the laminate countertops with wood
-Building a small storage shed in the backyard

I have friends with tools, so I think we'd be able to get everything we need for all of these projects. I'm not looking for the standard 25hrs/week set-up, or for long term guests. Basically, you can crash at my place for a long weekend, maybe up to a week(?) if you can do eit... more inside

The Ark is a fantastical house renovation project in progress. It's a magical and open space that has been created and shaped by the occupants over the last three years. The house already has all regular amenities: kitchen and bathrooms, internet and a washer. It's just a little not finished. Our work continues on the interior and exterior of the house - but now we are to the fun part, designing and finishing rooms! Check out our facebook page for some more images of the process (and us)!

Tiny Circus, a collaborative project that creates stop-motion animations with community groups is also based out of the house, and there may be some opportunity to get involved if desired.

We live cooperatively and communally in the house. We have meetings on Sunday mornings from 10 AM - Noon to clean the house and communicate about our living situation. These meetings are mandatory and you'll probably enjoy them even if you stayed out 'til 4 am the night before.

Helpers will... more inside

I can't wait to share my pride and joy with you! I started this hostel with the dream of meeting other travelers and providing them with some of the amenities I thought were missing in New Orleans' hostels at the time. I searched and searched and settled on this home based on its distance to public transportation, its layout, the services offered within such a close proximity, and its location, situated centrally between the French Quarter-Downtown and Garden District-Uptown. I believe working/staying here will definitely allow you to have a great experience in New Orleans.

We usually have up to 4 work/stay volunteers who stay in a private dorm set aside just for them which has a private bathroom. They generally work from 24-30 hours per week in exchange for stay. Their work involves either just working the reception, laundry, tending to guests needs, and hanging out with guests at different events OR can also involve some cleaning duties. We usually have other people hire... more inside

The Treehouse Guesthouse has four bedrooms and a camping area all centered around a 400 sq ft treehouse in a urban setting. We opened in January 2015 and have been wonderfully busy hosting guests from all over the world. Ou projects for April and May include: planting shrubs, creating new flower beds, completing the pond, improving the camping areas, building an outdoor shower & kitchen. Since we have a Guesthouse, there are always tasks related to laundry, cleaning and cooking with the guests. We also have some construction projects for folks with building skills. Our construction supervisor is a formed Habitat for Humanity coordinator, so he is very good at teaching building skills. Our current projects involve using recycled materials.

This is South Louisiana, so of course, you will eat well and meet some friendly people. Let us know what you like and we will help you have fun while you work with us! There are many oportunities to enjoy the outdoors, music venues, ... more inside

I live in a cute little neighbourhood (Breaux Bridge) eight miles from Lafayette, Louisiana near Lake Martin, in a wood-frame 1950s home. It is a quiet, safe neighbourhood with frequent Cajun music and dance parties. Cafe des Amis, which is well known for their Zydeco breakfast every Saturday mornings, is within walking distance. La Joie de Vivre cafe is another one of my favorite venues, also within walking distance.

Some of the other activities visitors can enjoy are: canoeing on Bayou Teche (which flows through Breaux Bridge), antique shopping (many shops are within walking distance), swamp tours, cycling, and more!!

I live alone and am currently repairing my home as the outer wood frames are quite damaged, so I would like some help doing such things as sanding and painting. Also, I have a garden that I sometimes need help with. Usually you will stay in a private room, with your own bathroom next to the room. However, if I have an airbnb guest you will have to sleep on a ma... more inside

This is a 1 acre former industrial site with a history of a lumber yard and auto repair business. I know of no toxic releases in particular, but it is by no means a natural, fertile site. We will be bringing in soil and organics to cover up the historic, compacted, zombie soil, and making it a thriving, productive, beautiful place.

The aim on this land is to experiment with ways of living that heal and create living systems rather than destroy them and that promote self-sufficiency/skills, freedom, and connection/responsibility/relationship.

Ideally, we will not buy anything and will strive to go from a scavenging/reclaiming/waste-liberating lifestyle toward actually being self+land-productive, in order to be an example and a true alternative applicable to anyone/place.

I need people who are self-motivated, because I am not yet skilled enough at being a charismatic leader, and who will make living/working/improving here their primary pursuit while staying.

Also, to stay... more inside

I need simple assistance with either some very simply carpentry work or some assistance with building a garden. In exchange for work once to 3 times a week, I can offer an infinite amount of housing and food. If you have zero skills and can assist with grabbing tools and giving me advice then I can house you as well. I am not picky. There has been a few people who never did any work due to lack of opportunity, and I was perfectly OK with that. They were still willing to help and that's the biggest part.

About my house. It is still under heavy construction. It needs just about everything. There is currently no plumbing, and electricity will be coming shortly. I'm sure it will be a few short weeks and ill be a very happy man.

I tell all my guests that if you hate my place and want to leave then it wont hurt my feelings. I understand if someone can't live the way I do. Come and stay for a little and see how you like it. I do prefer long term guests than people who stay ... more inside
