Looking for assistance in developing a spiritual retreat. The property is located in SW Louisiana, 3 hours from New Orleans and 2.5 hours from Houston. The property is 2 acres with a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath country home.

We have accomplished much over the last 2.5 years but there is so much more to do.

Hello HelpXers,

Thank you for visiting my page!
I am Sean, and I am the manager of New Orlean's newest hostel--Madame Isabelle's House.
Madame Isabelle's family moved to New Orleans in the early 1900s before moving out of the city around 2002. The house was originally built in 1831. Her family had expanded and decorated the house before her father endowed to her. She and her husband continued to develop the house for their lifetime.

The house is beautifully decorated and furnished, describing the architectural characteristics of the old New Orleans' houses. As we are proud of the details of the house, we would like you to enjoy every part of the house.

The hostel is located a block away from French Quarter and is surrounded by tons of famous local restaurants. We are also a 10 minute walk to Bourbon St, 5 minutes to Frenchmen St, 10 minutes to Louis Armstrong Park, and 15 minutes to downtown. At the corner of our street there are bus stops with five routes to the city's ... more inside

I can't wait to share my pride and joy with you! I started this hostel with the dream of meeting other travelers and providing them with some of the amenities I thought were missing in New Orleans' hostels at the time. I searched and searched and settled on this home based on its distance to public transportation, its layout, the services offered within such a close proximity, and its location, situated centrally between the French Quarter-Downtown and Garden District-Uptown. I believe working/staying here will definitely allow you to have a great experience in New Orleans.

We usually have 4-6 work/stay volunteers who stay in a private dorm set aside just for them which has a private bathroom. They work around 24 hours per week in exchange for stay. We have 3 positions; Front Desk and Laundry, Room Cleaning, and Party Organizer.

Front desk workers work 2 12 hours shifts and have the other 5 days per week off. They start their day putting out breakfast, eating with our g... more inside

The Treehouse Guesthouse has four bedrooms and a camping area all centered around a 400 sq ft treehouse in a urban setting. We opened in January 2015 and have been wonderfully busy hosting guests from all over the world.

Our projects for April through August include: improving the camping areas and gardens and building an outdoor shower & kitchen. Since we have a Guesthouse, there are always tasks related to laundry, cleaning and cooking with the guests. We also have some construction projects for folks with building skills. Our construction supervisor is a formed Habitat for Humanity coordinator, so he is very good at teaching building skills. Our current projects involve using recycled materials.

This is South Louisiana, so of course, you will eat well and meet some friendly people. Let us know what you like and we will help you have fun while you work with us! There are many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, music venues, festivals and food that South Louisi... more inside

Our small community in the heart of New Orleans is growing and building. Located next to one of the largest city parks in the country and a newly completed linear park and bike trail that ends right at the French Quarter, we've got the best spot in town for a combination of nature/peace/health and city fun! One or two volunteers are needed for help on the computer, community gardening, landscaping, building & organizing events/classes. Our Center has weekly classes in Yoga, Meditation and Tai Chi.

The volunteer work plan will be set at the beginning of each week. Volunteers will be expected to donate a minimum of 20 hours per week in exchange for accommodation with some occasional meals as a bonus for exceptional work. A second option would be Apprentice/Volunteer at 35 hours per week which would also include a bicycle, plus $100 per week for food/groceries. Also provided for both volunteer levels is use of the Community Kitchen. Accommodation will be provided in a small cabin... more inside

I'm a guy in my late 20s, and I bought this property in January of 2013. With the help of friends, couch surfers, and lots of wasteful construction sites I have so far built two small shacks, a chicken coop, a tree house, several raised garden beds, a composting toilet and other things all FOR FREE using building materials found in dumpsters. My main project is building a house, also using salvaged materials, but not exclusively. This is a "normal" house, with all the proper permits and code requirements.

I'm looking for people who want to come be a part of the community here, and help with various projects. There are typically between 3 and 12 people living on the property at a time. Some of us (myself included) have jobs which take up a lot of our time. Not only do we dumpster dive building materials, but also food. If you're not okay with eating this "reclaimed" food, you'll have to buy most of your own food.

There is a pretty good mix of skilled work and unskilled ... more inside
