Our farm is a small, 5 acre homestead in southwest michigan approximately 1hr 45 from chicago, 2.5 hours from detroit and about 20 minutes from lake michigan. We’ve just moved here from chicago to make a go of growing wholesome, organic produce focusing on soil health and using compost and as our primary growing medium. By next summer we hope to have a full fledged CSA program in place and seeing what small farm animals we can add as we go along. we've just added one lamb, 11 baby chicks and are getting 25 more chicks, a couple of roosters and 2 baby ducklings. We are committed to avoiding the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers and are dedicated to learning and using permaculture practices. there is an amtrak station roughly 10 minutes from the farm and we would encourage our guest to spend some weekends in chicago at our city apartment. todd is a gay male that lives at the farm and katie and laurie are a lesbian couple, still working on a freelance basis in chicago and co...

Live in a beautiful home on Gull Lake, which was ranked one of the ten best inland lakes in the country by National Geographic, in Richland, Michigan, 2 and 1/2 hours from the heart of Chicago. Sail on our sailboat equipped with an electric motor for if you get stuck! Explore nearby Kalamazoo, Michigan, or travel forty-five minutes to Lake Michigan. Our youngest son was a helpx in Saas Grund, Switzerland, and he was home for the summer before going back to school. As with his experience, help with yard work, house work, painting, and organization of items for twenty hours or less per week. Have your own bedroom and bath, except on holidays. Stocked refrigerator and pantry for your use. We are a casual family who would like to return the favor of our son's experience in Switzerland.

Our new homestead is located in Detroit in a tight knit neighborhood of farmers and activists North of Six Mile and East of Woodward. This is a lovely historic neighborhood with a large close by park and easy access to both downtown and Ferndale. Palmer Park is a lovely park with a large wooded area, tennis courts, and regular events including free Saturday yoga. Those of us living in the home have been active farmers in Detroit for quite some time. We facilitate a community garden in Midtown/North Cass Corridor, and help out at other local farms as well. Your stay here will include work on our homestead, developing the garden, caring for chickens, setting up a fish farm, building a sustainable apartment in the garage, repairing and refinishing the home, setting up the grey water system, community organizing, setting up hives and work on local community projects including other community gardens in the neighborhood and community gardens in other neighborhoods. We run a small CSA, established in 1995. Interns assist with the garden, livestock, apiary and reforestation project. You will live upstairs in the barn, in the camper, or in your own tent. We can pick you up from the train station in Lapeer or the bus /airport in Flint. We grow much of what we eat and strive to eat most of what we grow. We recently put a tipi on the land and have some natural building projects planned.

I am looking for nice folks to come learn about a wonderful area in the Midwest United States from July to October. I like to meet people from other countries to learn more about them and their culture. I am a young (70 yr old) lady who is well travelled. I have travelled to all 50 states in the U.S.A. I live in a charming small home that needs to be scraped, primed and prepared to be lovingly painted, in exchange for accommodations and meals. Looking for a couple with energy to work hard and enjoy this beautiful area. Four hours of work per person to be exchanged per night. I live on a nice cul de sac two miles from town center. There are nearby art and cultural experiences, see listings below. Own room, shared bath, TV, cable and video player, access to internet, 2 bicycles, unlimited phone usage to Canada and USA. Small Cairn terrier dog loves visitors. No smoking, please.
I belong to Servas, Women Welcome Women World Wide and Couchsurfers. And, I am a former high school En...
