OK, so we are a late fifties couple, with one cat and no kids, living on 18 acres of paradise just 6km from central New Plymouth, in the second best place in the World to visit, according to Lonely Planet.

We currently have cattle, chooks and bees. We plan to have sheep, as soon as we get some more fencing done.

Things that happen here are; caring for the chooks, collecting pine cones, moving the cattle daily, caring for the bees, making hay and silage, gardening to feed us, making jam, relish, and other preserves, cutting firewood, spraying weeds, extracting honey, and all sorts of other things that go into being as self sufficient as possible. All obviously dependent on the time of year and the weather.

Current, planned projects include a tunnel house for winter veggies, fencing along the driveway, replacing a barberry hedge with a better shelter belt and a lot of other things that happen each day in running a small block. All FUN.

We are John and Chris in our early 70's but healthy, fit and young at heart. We enjoy travelling and meeting people from different cultures. Last October we went for a trip to Switzerland, South France, Portugal and Morocco.
John is a full time artist with a studio and gallery and I like to make art when I have time.
We grow most of our own fruit, vegetables, eggs and some meat. We can cook vegetarian, gluten free and paleo meals for people who want it.
We require help with cooking, gardening, housework, lawn mowing, and general outdoor maintenance.
Helpers have their own bedrooms and bathroom and will eat with us. We have a dog and a cat.
Our land borders the Mimi River mouth and sea where Helpxers can swim, surf, kayak and fish for recreation. The white Cliffs Walkway is 10 minutes drive away and New Plymouth is 25 minutes from here.

We live very close to public transport links as well as you are welcome to use our mountain bikes to cycle within the city boundaries.

There is free fibre wifi.

The bed is a king single with a trundle single so two could stay if required.

I am extremely fortunate to be living “The good life” on my little patch of urban paradise, situated in New Plymouth – “Beneath the Mountain and Beside the Sea”. “My Patch” is a very private well hidden ½ an acre of mostly gardens, with mature trees, fruit trees, large vegetable patch, a greenhouse, a shade house and 5 chickens. Lots of wonderful bird-life with Tui and Kereru visiting almost daily.

I grow mushrooms in the shade house at warmer intervals throughout the year and as many varieties of vegetables, fruit and herbs as I can fit into available spaces. There is always plenty to do as my garden is always undergoing “renovations” as I endeavour to introduce raised bed gardening.

Would love to host an engineer type person whom would be interested in helping build a solar powered drying room for dehydrating food.

From time to time I require assistance with activities such as pruning, harvesting, building simple wooden garden structures, chopping/gathering firewood... more inside

Nestled up against the Pouakai ranges with birds eye view of the coastline, our home has a bush backdrop with easy walking access to Egmont National Park while being only 15 minutes drive from New Plymouth.

Our house is located a 10 minute walk from the Mangorei Track, which allows for access to Pouakai cabin and the trail network beyond. We have 10 acres of land, 6 of which is native bush continuous with the national park.

We purchased this land 5 years ago and have started the hard work of converting it from a beef paddock to a lifestyle property complete with gardens, fences, windbreak and an orchard. We have already planted upwards of 1000 (mostly native) trees on the property, installed an "infinity lawn", planted a fruit orchard, created internal paddocks using 3 board fencing and landscaped several gardens.

Due to the great popularity of the Pouakai Crossing and its start just up the road, the council is widening our road. Unfortunately, this mea... more inside
