Nestled in the beautiful Southern Alps is the historic settlement of Cass (approx half way between Christchurch and Greymouth). I am offering private accommodation (separate from the house with own bathroom)in exchange for odd jobs - painting, gardening and lawn mowing.
There is plenty to do in the area including fishing on many of the nearby high country lakes (1.6 km to Lake Sarah) day walks/ tramping in Arthurs Pass National Park and Craigieburn forest Park, skiing on one of the 5 local ski fields, four wheel driving, Scree jumping (down Sugar Loaf). A short drive to Cave stream scenic reserve (one of the south Islands best free activities) and Castle Hill natural rock climbing park (where scenes from Lord of the Rings and Narnia were filmed). Other nearby facilities are The Bealy Hotel (10mins) and Arthurs Pass 20mins. In exchange I would like four hours work per day. Cass can be reached by car, bike the Transalpine train, or transport providers such as Atomic Travel Shut... more inside

Hello Helpers.

Spring is here and we have lots to do in Cheviot. Gary and Robert (gay couple) are looking for helpers now who can assist with all sorts of duties like washing the house, staining decks, gardening (weeding and line strimming, mowing lawns) collecting the produce from the garden and maybe some planting and watering.

We are also looking for people with general maintenance type jobs like painting and some domestic duties like cleaning. Plus we have sheep, lambs, cows and calves to feed and look after so quite a bit of variety.

Most of our outside jobs are weather dependent though so if the weather is OK we have lots to do. However, we do have some inside jobs for the cooler or wet days.

We are located in Cheviot, North Canterbury approx 1 hour and 20 minutes drive north of Christchurch or 50 minutes drive south of Kaikoura.

We are not organic but do grow our own vegies, fruit and herbs.

Our property is a 2 hectare lifestyle block with an extensive garden and a menagerie of animals - see website for more details.
I am an at-home Mum/Gardener and my partner, Rudi, is an air traffic controller. We have 2 children - Josie (17 years old), whose main passion is horse riding, regularly competing in dressage competitions and showing. Our 19 year old son, Nic,is studying a Financial Engineering degree at Canterbury University and is currently living on campus.
We occasionally have garden groups coming to visit and so the garden has become my place of work. As the garden is rather large, I'm needing some help with weeding, mulching, pruning and general upkeep of the property.
We are happy to provide meals and accommodation - we have a newish bedroom, with a Queen sized bed (plus can add a single) and bathroom in exchange for gardening, cooking, painting and the odd household chore (in the event of wet weather). You would help yourself to lunch and breakfast most of t... more inside
