Next place January

Feel like helping on a beautiful farm, with a welcoming family and loads of animals to feed, pet, and walk and milk!

PLEASE read our description carefully to make sure we are the right place for you........

HI. We are Lamea and Graeme, a couple in our 40s. We have two small girls, Clara, two, and Elsie Joy, four, who are absolutely lovely and love people staying (but like all children can get tired and grumpy, or call our attention away at times). Because you will live with us as a family, enjoyment of children is very important. They are involved in everything we do, and love to follow around, or ask you to join in games and activities.
Anyone with a Steiner/Waldorf background is especially welcomed here, as we would like to incorporate more of this in our children's lives.

We manage and live on an 800h hill farm mainly running cows. The farm is on a gravel road with no bus service nearby, but we are 30 minutes from Timaru and Geraldine, we prefer... more inside

Ad and Catherine Sintenie moved on their 10 acre property, Coopers Creek, in 1987. The place was everything they were looking for when they emigrated to NZ; a small wooden house with a veranda, a creek and and a cabbage tree in the garden and close to the mountains. Also a great place to bring up their 2 kids, Anna & Jan. (The kids have left home now and are busy producing wonderful grand children.)
Over the years Catherine & Ad changed their 10 acres of "bare" land into a true paradise. Where there was an empty paddock there are now extensive plantings of native trees and shrubs and vegetable gardens. The native planting helps to establish an ecological corridor, a carbon sink and a valuable tree crop, as well as a nice place to live. There are a few sheep to keep the paddock grazed and freezer filled and some hens and a rooster for eggs, garden fertiliser and rural sound effects.

Sadly, in October 2014, Catherine passed away after losing her battle with cancer, so it's now ju... more inside

Hilary and I live in a 3 bedroom strawbale house which , with the help of family, friends and HelpX we built over 3 day week-ends for three years. The house is on just over 6 hectares and has sheep, goats, honey bees, native tree plantings, an orchard, soft fruits and nut trees.
We grow and make as much of our own food as possible; bread, cakes, pickles, yoghurt and jams are created in the kitchen, vegetables and fruit come out of the garden and meat comes from our animals.
We are looking for Helpx guests who are interested in and want to be involved in sustainable living, creating their own buildings, permaculture, etc. We are happy to help you with this journey. We would love you to have some skills in digging, weeding, building etc.

The house is 16 km west of Geraldine with views to the mountains [the Four Peaks] and the sea.
South Canterbury is great for walking and biking [we have two bikes you can borrow], with lovely nearby native forests and mountains [check out ... more inside

Our family lives on a lifestyle property in beautiful Pleasant Valley (just 10kms mountain side of Geraldine). We homeschool our children, with just the younger two boys still at home - aged 15 and 16

Our property sits in the view of the Four Peaks Mountains, and has trees, creeks, and a spring-fed, home-made swimming pool. We graze sheep on our 12 acre property. We have two home orchards, raspberries as well as a large veggie garden.

We eat largely non- processed wholefoods homecooked meals, fresh veges and fruit. We make our own yoghurt from raw milk and make our own bread.

We also have our own natural swimming pool and camping ground. So you would be welcome to swim or if you like tenting - we have tents or a bus in the camping ground.

We would currently love some help to tidy this up for our New Year Camp.... weed eating, digging thistles, cleaning out the pond.

ARE YOU A CARPENTER or BUILDER?? Would love some help to finish the studio - paint the roof, buil... more inside
