A "Natural" Building Project in the Scottish Highlands.

Hi HelpXers,

We live in a beautiful wooded glen (valley) near a village called Spinningdale about 50 miles (80 km.) north of Inverness in the northern Scottish Highlands, where we have a 6 acre (2.4 hectare) former croft (a "croft" is a traditional small Highland farmstead).

We are surrounded by 1700 acres (700 hectares) of stunning natural woodland belonging to a conservation body called The Woodland Trust. We help look after the woods as Voluntary Wardens.

Jim is an environmental scientist with a particular interest in ecological design and sustainable building using natural materials.

Saddhavati is an artist and teacher whose other interests include meditation and yoga.

We are nearing completion of our "natural" home. It is a "passive solar" design based around a traditional post and beam timber frame with "breathing" external walls clad with untreated larch and a living green roof. The building is ins... more inside

Hi. Thanks for looking at our profile.

This is what we are about in a nutshell:

We are creating a home for well-being, art and nature. Our lodge is a secluded, easily accessible guest house and retreat space offering bed and breakfast with stunning views of the Scottish countryside in the Kingdom of Fife. We offer a tranquil, relaxing space for those exploring the area, business people who want a more personal experience than a hotel or those just wanting to stay and be nourished in mind, body and soul" - Its a place where you can just "Be".

You will be supporting us in making the above guest experience possible.

We value authenticity, integrity, honesty and self-awareness.

We have put together this outline as a result of our hosting experience so far. We find that it helps to clarify what is on offer at Cherry Tree Lodge and what is expected of someone who comes to support what we offer. Expectations have a greater chance of being met for both parties which can lead... more inside
