Exciting volunteering opportunity on diverse small estate in rural Cambridgeshire

This is a unique mix of organic smallholding, nature reserve, formal gardens and in-house catering all underpinning a successful wedding venue.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience at a distinctly different family owned business; we pride ourselves on sowing, growing, cooking and serving our own produce as such the smallholding is a core part of our business.

Working directly with our grower and other professionals in our team you will gain experience of a wide range of practical horticultural activities. Given the seasonal variety of tasks and the diversity of our farm activities each day will present interesting new challenges!

Our home is a cottage in a wooded beauty spot in cornwall England in the Luxulyan Valley approx one mile from the Eden Project which is an internationally recognised ecological and educational complex.
We have 8 acres of fields, woodland and garden and a newly renovated out-building. Each year we have a small festival for friends and family during the summer. We are creative people always looking for a new adventure. Tony is an artist, tutor and gardener. Our son and daughter live at home, Ben is 27 and Wendy is 29. Ben graduated from University and is interested in sport, art and will be going travelling during this year after running the London marathon. Wendy is an actor, singer and dancer and creates perfomances in our wood. All our free time is taken by projects around the home and we could do with an extra pair of hands. The projects we would like to do are: Woodland conservation, creating a vegetable patch, completing our renovated barns, including decorating, building a wo... more inside

We are a friendly family of four (my husband, me and 2 small children) who live in a beautiful 16th century cottage in the South Downs National Park. We are just 7 miles north of the cosmopolitan seaside city of Brighton but are surrounded by idyllic woodland and hills full of deer, badgers and owls.

We moved to this old house a year ago and have lots of decorating and gardening work to do... work such as chopping wood, clearing weeds, stripping wallpaper, sanding floorboards ... Our large garden has the potential to be beautiful - we'd like to grow lots of vegetables, have a small forest garden and develop the pond area to attract more pond life. We hope to get chickens and ducks in April so can help with them.

We were hoping to do all this work ourselves but find it hard to find the time with 2 children. We also love the idea of having foreign visitors. We did lots of backpacking when we were younger and loved meeting people from all over the world. So it would be a pleasu... more inside

The land is part of the three acres that Bridget Hicky- Williams runs near Diss in Norfolk. We now work together, sharing the load of looking after sheep, lambs when in season, a goat and she has one kid. As well as Piggles our Kune Kune Pig who believes she is a Dog as she follows you around everywhere,we also have Babe a male pig who is just like his name sake. There are ducks and chickens lots of babies one of the indoor cats has just had 4 and another cat 2 kittens, there are also 6 Collie puppies , its like a nursery. There are two Shetland ponies and four wild-ish cats. Last but not least we have Amma our sheep dog who the lambs 'round' up because she is such a wuss.

We have a large Organic Vegetable garden which we never seem to keep on top of, numerous building projects inside and out all year round. Most of our food and milk comes from the farm including delicious home made bread.
We work with the seasons regarding preserving fruit and veg, hoping to take us through th... more inside

Family smallholding in rural East Yorkshire, set in a village. Three lively children to contend with! We try to produce our own food organically. We are near the end of a long renovation and extension project of our almost 300 year old cottage and need help with day to day outside chores and also masses of clearing and tidying from the build. Also need help reinstating the neglected vegetable gardens hopefully in time for some planting this year-lots of weeding to do! We currently have a handful of sheep, chickens, turkeys, kids ponies and lots of cats and dogs! We also are running a small (non organic) calf rearing business (30-40 calves). If we have wintery weather we also have a lot of internal decorating and finishing to do! Be prepared for a few hours of good physical work-but we do not expect you to be working all day. Working time can be flexible to allow you to explore the area and although we can't promise anything, with your help we will have more free time and may be able... more inside

We are a family who live on the outskirts of a village 4 miles away from the nearest town of Tewkesbury. We have a severely disabled teenager staying with us for respite 4 or 5 nights a week. We look after 6 sheep, 3 ponies (2 rescue, 1 rarebreed), a dog and 2 cats. 2 of our 3 children (16 and 21 )live at home, one working and the other at college and one (19) is away at uni most of the year.
I'd like help to turn the land into a tidy and productive permaculture style smallholding. My husband looks after the visiting disabled teenagers and I struggle outside- would appreciate someone with practical skills to help. We have a small gutted caravan as a spare bedroom, electricity attached and waterproof with a comfy king sized bed but needs renovation.
