Small holding on Clare Island, a small island off the West coast of Co Mayo, Ireland. 4 cows, some sheep, a few hens and a working donkey. Still doing things the old way: growing potatoes and oat, cutting turf for the stove, saving hay by hand, baking soda bread and churning butter. Small vegetable garden. Help needed mostly in spring (turf cutting, planting and sawing) and early summer (saving hay). Here you can learn to make straw baskets, milk a cow by hand, and discover a lifestyle that has now almost disappeared.

No computer, so please phone, or use the old traditional way, post.

We are looking for experimented stone macon and polytunnel builders from now until mid August. If you have any experience in building or if you are hard working please contact us.

Situated on the Fanad Peninsula, Co. Donegal Rep. Ireland just 2 minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, the Peace Village is an organic farm with a number of rental accommodations and comfortable space. We are in the process of restoring a pre-famine village built from granite stone. Currently we have renovated a beautiful cottage, a log cabin and various outbuildings. There is loads of stone, cut by our forefathers just waiting to be put back in its rightful place, glorifying the walls of these historical buildings - hard work but enjoyable and rewarding. To develop a self-sustaining lifestyle we have 17.65 acres on which we have plans to develop a range of organic produce, a vegetable and fruit garden, a herb garden and plant some new hedges. Currently we have focused on flower gardens which surround the ma... more inside

I'm a flute teacher and sculptor with a wide interest in the arts and also in nature, wildlife, Buddhism and psychology, yoga and meditation. I can offer a stay in a large, comfortable house (or a small caravan in garden if preferred in the summer) in a beautiful part of West Cork not far from the sea. Accommodation and food in return for some help gardening and inside work, e.g. painting and decorating. Preference given to artistic and/or musical people (I have a good concert grand piano and room to paint/sculpt). Non smokers are preferred. Please contact me for further details and a link to photos of my place and the area, which is between Schull, Durrus and Ballydehob. The nearest towns are Bantry and Skibbereen and both are served by a regular bus from Cork. I have 2 mountain bikes that helpers are welcome to use too. You can see what it's like here if you go to my website page.

I have occupied this place as my home for over 30 years. All that time it has been run on 'ecological' lines. Electricity is made on site (I'm off the grid) and there is no indoor plumbing, but one indoor compost toilet - a simple one that requires emptying on a frequent basis. I am red-hot about hygiene - all 'waste' buckets are washed before re-use, for example. I am a recently retired practitioner of Chinese Medicine and Western Herbalism. I am a writer and I have a small, domestic garden run on organic lines and attempting Bio-dynamics this season. Deliberately, the work here is mostly manual, but sometimes it is too much for one person, especially an aging one! I love to cook and am renowned for my delicious and filling organic, vegetarian cooking. I provide comfortable beds. Sometimes people come here knowing that I live simply and equate that with living austerely - I don't live austerely! I like to have a warm house and warm water to wash with. Austerity ... more inside

I am an active 59 year old, soon to be a granny, women living on and running a farm in conversion to organic status. I have sheep, poultry, retired horses, a donkey, cats, dogs and forestry. I love my home, it is a fairly big old house up a long avenue 10km from the nearest reasonable town. My adult children are here intermittently, a neighbour works 2 days a week, which is not enough to get all the work done, hence I welcome your assistance. I am trying to run courses and a B and B for humans and horses.

What I am looking for is someone who understands the demands and joys of country living, someone who can see what needs doing and either gets on and does it or doesn't take offense if I don't agree with the project. I would be particularly happy for help in the office

I am looking for someone to help in the following areas:
Help with Computers / internet,
Helping with Tourists,
Animal care,
Help in the house,
Help with Eco project,
Farming,
General Maintenance,
Cookin... more inside
