Our farm is based around the use of our 2 Comtois heavy horses, Bill and Ben. We use old farming equipment imported from the Amish to work our fields. Whilst we do use a small rotovator to prepare the seed beds for certain delicate crops, and in out 5 polytunnels, all the rest of the work on the farm in done by our horses. We are excited to welcome volunteers who are interested in the working horses, However, it is important to note that horses can be unpredictable, and operating the machinery is a very skilled practice. Whilst visitors are welcome to participate when appropriate, we have made the decision not to get volunteers involved in driving the horses.

Our farming practices have been developed from 7 years of experience working on farms in the USA where scale appropriate technology and innovative farming practices are abundant. Our farm practices have been heavily influenced by the likes of Ann and Erik Nordell, JM fortier, Curtis Stone, Elliot Coleman and many others. At ... more inside

We are, at the moment (from January 2018) looking for a couple/small group/very self sufficient individual to help with tidying and wood clearing on our smallholding. The cabin on our woodland also needs some attention which might require staying overnight there. Would suit someone/people who want peace and quiet, are able to work on their own and take initiative.

We are a 2 hectare smallholding with 2 holiday cottages (one of which would be the accommodation). We sometimes keep animals for our own consumption, grow fruit and vegetables and enjoy one of the most beautiful views in the world.

We are looking for help with work both inside and out, depending on skills and inclination (and the weather) including cleaning and painting in the holiday cottages, Handyman-type maintenance, wood clearing and chopping, strimming, weeding/picking vegetables and helping out around the smallholding and garden. We would expect 4-5 hours work a day, with a day off a week, you need to be ... more inside

to build and create and do general maintenance and gardening tasks in exchange for accomodation and meals.

If you like books, peace and quiet, then you will like my house...it is untidy though, so anyone with OCD should stay away.

We have moved into my parents house and childhood home. It's a lovely house with an interesting history and one of the best views on the island.

We are currently looking for help with the following:
Gardening work (to keep on top of a beautiful organic garden before the weeds take over).
Looking after our 6 year old child.
Fixing and maintaining bicycles.
Specials, like building a pizza oven, or digging out a bunker.

We would ensure that everybody is greeted with a big smile, is well fed, has a comfortable bed to sleep in and the chance to explore the island whenever we/you take a break from the work. We have a few bikes that you will be able to use. And of course we hope that you might one day come back and visit us and the island again in the future!

We are both artists. You can read more about our work on our website (see link above).

The growing list of helpers: Thanks to Chris, Miriam, Kerstin, Camilla & Huw, Ronja & Jens, Robin, Erwan, Guido & Nina, Alba, Simon... more inside
