We have moved to Bulgaria to set up a self sufficient subsistence small holding so we can take control of our own food supply. We keep and breed a wide range of animals and grow our own food.

We are not a commercial company or large business. We trade locally using barter and exchange where ever possible. We are investing time and money in our local area for the benefit of all, but with an emphasis on permanent residence, from all backgrounds.

We trade for a living not for profit !

Escaping the unsustainable consumerism of western society for a back to basics lifestyle in Bulgaria growing and rearing our own food.

My name is Andrew and I am English, my partner Maria is from Ukraine and we have two young boys Laykan 4ys and Samhain 3yrs, who we want to bring up in a place where they are more in touch with the natural world around them.

We sold our house in the UK and are investing all we have in Bulgaria, where we are establishing an organic smallholding to grow al... more inside

This is a wholistic farm and winery working with the methods of Joel Salatin and utilising biodynamic methods. We raise pasture chicken, eggs, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, run market garden and sell to subscribers. We produce wine, dairy products, meats, fresh and preserved vegetables. We are especially interested in rocket stoves, biochar kilns etc. We prefer at least 2 months duration of a visit unless the helpers have specific skills and can be responsible for a separate project for shorter time.

I am a writer, originally from Scotland, now living in Bulgaria. I have a two-story house in a small village near the popular tourist town of Tryavna in the Stara Planina Region.

I have two friendly dogs, a golden retriever called Magnus and a terrier (of unknown breed) called Mopsy, plus one chilled out cat, Mr. C. If you're an animal lover, so much the better.

Basically I can accommodate one or two people for up to two weeks, spring, summer or autumn. I could use some help with the following: Remedial work on the house (mainly outside work, painting and minor repairs). Gardening - ideally someone who knows about gardening, and is happy to do basic work like strimming, weeding and maybe some creative planting, too. Some cleanup work needed, too - around shed at the back of the house, for instance. Otherwise, just some help around the place, cooking, cleaning, etc.

I'd also value just a bit of company here, too, once in a while - I play guitar, write novels, have TV, Xbox... more inside

We are unable to accept volunteers now until June 2015. Some exciting projects coming up then, details will be posted soon !

I have a small house with land near Chirpan, where I plan to create a permaculture smallholding and centre for retreats and courses. The house is solid but needing lots of work; there are loads of outbuildings; the land is in good condition and hasn't been used for years.
I'm looking for enthusiastic people with a sense of adventure to help me make this happen. This is an opportunity to be part of an exciting project from the beginning. Experience is always good but not essential.
Over the winter of 2012-3, most of one of the outbuildings attached to the house has fallen down, so I am especially looking for people with strong building experience, even better if it's with stone and timber.
Other than that, my first tasks for spring 2013 will be to finish building a compost toilet, solar shower and field kitchen, as well as clearing a small amount of land... more inside

I live in a small town located in southeastern Bulgaria. The name of the town is Krumovgrad and it is 40km from Greece and 90km from Turkey. The majority of people here are Turks or Muslims, but we have mixed Bulgarian and Turkish culture. The food is spicy and nature is very clean.
I am interested in languages and cultural integration. I think that cultural exchange between people is a way to grow prejudices and to create tolerance between different ethnic groups, nationalities and races. I speak Turkish, Bulgarian, Russian and English. Through this site I would like to further develop my knowledge of English and to broaden my ties with people from different cultures.
If you have similar interests and if you are good at teaching of English, please contact me.

Hi there,
My Parnter, Andy (a Geordie) and I (Sheleen a Scouser) have been Living the Dream for 6 years now. We both have a passion for scuba diving and this is how we met. We both love to cook and entertain. We believe in work life balance. We are happy to be experiencing this right now.
As Ive backpacked around the world myself some of my favourite experiences were those spent volunteering. This was because I got to experience the culture of the country properly and I thought I would really like to offer that here.
We like to treat our volunteers like family, with respect and always include you in our leisure activities also, (this is optional of course), but just so you know its not all work work work. This enables you to experience real life in Bulgaria. You will meet our lovely neighbours and friends. We always say that our volunteers have a choice of hours but they all seem to want to just fit in with whatever we are doing. If you are going to be working full days ... more inside

WE ARE ....

Dave and partner Jackie, an English couple living in a small village in rural Bulgaria. Our home sits on a 1 Decare plot of land where we grow most of our veggies, and overlooks the valley to the hills beyond. We speak a little and are continuing to learn Bulgarian. We are meat-eaters, do not smoke and drink socially. We have a dog, cats and chickens, and plan to have other animals at some point.

Our aims are simple - To feed, support and care for each other, those people important in our lives (hopefully to include you), the animals we foster and the land we tend while being mindful of organic and permaculture principals in order to prevent any further damage to our world.

If any of this listing sounds appealing we would be happy to hear from you and ... more inside

We are an English couple who moved here nearly 4 years ago for a slower lifestyle!

Darren was a landscape gardener in the UK & an avid martial arts fan who taught various styles of martial arts & also arranged competitions.
Mel was a shopkeeper in the UK & operated a strict fitness programme of walking to the pub & back regularly with mates!
We lived in N.E England and after coming here on Holiday 4 years ago we fell in love with Bulgaria and bought what was to be a holiday home. We decided that as we were both self employed we could quite easily move our interests elsewhere and decided to give it a shot by coming for a month in 2008. We absolutely loved it! We started gardening right away and instead of Daz creating patios and decks we were digging & creating veggie plots, coppicing our many fruit trees & trying our hand at building mudbrick walls! Life here goes at about 5 miles per hour, as opposed to 80 mph in the UK, everyone is so laid back and it feels very much 1970's ... more inside
