We are an English couple who moved here nearly 4 years ago for a slower lifestyle!

Darren was a landscape gardener in the UK & an avid martial arts fan who taught various styles of martial arts & also arranged competitions.
Mel was a shopkeeper in the UK & operated a strict fitness programme of walking to the pub & back regularly with mates!
We lived in N.E England and after coming here on Holiday 4 years ago we fell in love with Bulgaria and bought what was to be a holiday home. We decided that as we were both self employed we could quite easily move our interests elsewhere and decided to give it a shot by coming for a month in 2008. We absolutely loved it! We started gardening right away and instead of Daz creating patios and decks we were digging & creating veggie plots, coppicing our many fruit trees & trying our hand at building mudbrick walls! Life here goes at about 5 miles per hour, as opposed to 80 mph in the UK, everyone is so laid back and it feels very much 1970's ... more inside

Hi thank you for reading my profile.
I am a laid back, English speaking woman in my 50's. I enjoy company & socialising while relaxing. Although I have lived five & a half years full time in Bulgaria, four & a half in this village, I recently moved into a new property which needs lots of TLC. A bit of building up & taking down work, painting of outside walls, concreting, paving, garden organisation, building raised beds, planting, tiling, roofing, fencing, help with painting ceilings, making kitchen shelving, fitting new electrical sockets & switches, digging trenches & soak away's, I also have a long drop garden loo which I would want taken down & filled in. The list of jobs goes on & will take a few years I would think, therefore I need help. I am sure I have something for everyone to do here LOL

The most important jobs are....
Completing a kitchen by knocking down a wall & moving/adding electric points. Tiling the walls and floor.
Tiling the bathroom & toilet walls.

We are Frog Shadow Farm. We are situated on the edge of the village 'Ovchi Kladenets'. Last year, which was our first full year here, we built an extension, had a wonderful harvest and had great times with the help of some fantastic volunteers. This year is all about the garden and producing enough food for not only ourselves and guests, but for our pigs, goats and chickens (all for which we keep for either meat, milk or eggs). We also keep bee's now and will be enjoying our own honey later this year.

Our aim is to eventually be as self-sufficient as possible, growing and eating our own organic food. Living by 'the law of return' we give back to the ground what we take, thereby creating a harmonious balance between man and mud. We are very easy going, we enjoy working, listening to music and enjoy every new experience our change in lifestyle throws at us! There is no such thing as ‘cant’ or ‘it’s too hard’, we will have a go at anything.

For our guests we have a two double roo... more inside

I am a writer trying to live a self sufficient life here in bulgaria. Over the past year i have been working on renovating my house and outbuildings while building the garden. In the future i hope to incorporate solar energy and water saving schemes and have a keen interest in developing aquaponics.
The village of mogilino is small and friendly - and very very beautiful. There are a few other english speaking expats in the village. We do have a village shop and there is a regular bus service to dve mogili and ruse.
I have several dogs and cats! Certainly chickens will be here very soon and bees in the near future.
As I mentioned earlier I am writer and therefore a keen reader. I also love music and good conversation. I can respect all religions but would probably loosely categorise myself as pagan.
The internet service in the village is really very good and I understand we will have fibreoptic service in the very near future.
I am a non smoker.

Hello everybody,

we are in the starting phase for a our eco/community project in the central Balkan. The place is located in a magical lost village called Zhidevitsa, between the towns of Etropole and Teteven in the mountains. We now own a quite huge plot of land there with two old farmhouses on it. Opportunities still exist to buy land or old houses there. Our dream is that the whole village will come alive as an eco project :-)

We have already started to do some basic work (compost toilet, garden, some repairs on the house) but are very much still in planning/funding phase, so we're not in the place yet to take volunteers longer term.

Next general meeting is planned for end of March 2014 on spot, so if you truly feel the call to visit us then, or maybe you could even imagine to become part of the project, don't hesitate to contact us :-)

Our plans for the place include:

Water

- lake / water landscape (storage, micro-climate)
- grey water usage (circular wat... more inside

We need help to potter around the garden weeding and general plant maintenance. Nothing over strenuous but help would be appreciated.
We are a friendly and easy going couple in our 50s who moved to central Bulgaria 7 years ago. Our house is 30 minutes out of the old capitol of Veliko Turnovo.
The country garden is large with lots of trees , we also have a field that has not been in use for years, with old stone walls, some in need of tender loving care.
Help in the garden, keeping down the weeds, creating borders and general garden work. Tree care and maintenance, some repair work on stone walls if possible,
We would like our volunteers to feel at home and to enjoy their time with us.
We would expect help 5 days a week for 3/4 hours a day. It is really hot over here and we would not expect anyone to do too much in the heat. So if it too hot for us to work then we think it is too hot for you.
Anyone interested in Fishing would be able to go with Jim. He goes fishing at leas... more inside

Hi,
I am renovating an old house and barns in the village of Hotnitsa, 15km from the town of Veliko Tarnovo. Honey House will eventually become a Yoga, Reiki and horse trekking center, hopefully taking its first residential paying guests some time in 2014. There is already a trickle of day guests for yoga, horse riding and therapies.

Basically I need help to turn the dream into a reality.
I am looking for people with some building/restoration knowledge, you don't have to be a master crafts person, but if you are that would be fantastic. Also artists to add beautiful instillations, find creative ways to make ugly old furniture look stunning or at least quirky and to help hide the cracks with colour and laughter. I am looking for helpx with a good sense of humour, who are willing to give everything a go. I would like this to be a happy experience for everyone. You need to be able to work without constant supervision as I am often busy with the horses or teaching, so people with ... more inside
