Our hostel is on a working sheep farm in the Southern Scottish Highlands - quite remote but only 2 hours bus ride from Edinburgh and Glasgow. We are next to a loch -own ferry boat- and surrounded by mountains. The Hostel sleeps 12 people and there are also four quaint wooden huts ie there can be up to a maximum of 30 beds to be made each day. Very busy in July and August when there will be a team of 6 volunteers. Volunteer accomodation is in two caravans - the largest adjacent to the Hostel. Prefer applicants with skills/some experience - either in house-keeping, maintenance or outdoor work. Also ideal for language students who need a certificate of work abroad for their course qualifications. Erasmus Work grant possible if university support.

On Offer:

A comfortable room 50 yards from the sea on a small Scottish Island 18 miles from Oban (+ a 3 minute ferry trip!).

The island is 5 miles long, a mile wide. It has a small, scattered population, with a tiny shop a few miles away. A very quiet place, no pub, no cinema, no theme park, no TV but quite fast internet.

A once a week a trip to Oban to collect food and other supplies.

Food is provided... you will help prepare. A vegetarian, non smoking household in quiet surroundings.

In exchange for:

Your assistance and moral support with housekeeping/maintenance and garden clearing. If the weather is ok, splitting & stacking (more) logs ... plenty of scope in clearing 2 wild acres. Also you maybe help with the final preparation of my wooden boat for re-varnishing. Right now I am installing another bathroom. Experience is not important, willing and careful hands to help me are what's needed!

You will have plenty of time to explore, quiet time, t... more inside

Lyn and I run two self-catering holiday lodges a few metres from loch ness. These can be booked for a minimum of 1 night so we have constant changeovers during the weeks of the high season. We are looking for one or two people to work with us in 2018. We will provide accommodation plus food (I am a vegan and Lyn eats most things) for you to cook using your own kitchen for approx 2 to 4 hours work per day. This is to do changeovers in the lodges, check-in guests, washing and ironing and help with gardening, veggie plot, general maintenance, etc. The location is good as you will be able to walk, cycle, run the Great Glen Way which runs through the forest behind the lodge and pick mushrooms in the forest. Close to Ullapool I have run this farm from the age of 21 and have always really valued the help of HelpX. We have a family of three kids, we play a lot of music and you will hear bagpipes!!

Looking for volunteers to predominantly work with us on a line mortar building which was destroyed by hurricane Other jobs may include work in the woodland, farm, cottages and Weeding, harvesting the vegetable garden. We have not done HelpX for a while as we had a terrible flood in 2014 and are just getting back on our feet and could really do with help.

We own a large old house near Newton Stewart, with semi-natural woodland and a large garden, which we are trying to improve all the time. Work includes helping us to eradicate rhododendron ponticum, a non-native invasive shrub growing in the woodland, which involves cutting and pulling out bushes, thus allowing native trees to grow, this is best done in winter; also some garden work, painting, tree planting and making bread. We are particularly interested in garden design, plant ecology and environmental issues, our garden has been featured in several magazines. We grow our own vegetables, eat our own meat, and do a lot of home-cooking. Accommodation is offered in our house, with your own bedroom and bathroom, eating meals with us. We like to eat well, with plenty of vegetarian food (and meat). We have wi-fi .

We are on the West Coast, between Oban and Fort William.

The main work to be done now is welding and metal working and painting, so some experience with this is needed.
Located between Oban and Fort William. Small sailing boat for fishing. Bicycles and sometimes car. Minimum two months preferred.
