"As a volunteer at Chisholme House you are appreciated for who you are, not only for what you do."

This is a place of great beauty set in the heart of the Scottish Borders. It is primarily a school and retreat centre. The 187 acre estate offers an ideal space in which to retreat, engage in study and experience the reviving effect of being close to nature.

We accept help throughout the year but at the moment we are particularly looking for help over the summer. Come and join volunteers from all over the world for a week or two of satisfying work in Chisholme's walled garden and estate - and help too in preparing the wonderful meals for which we are famous. You can come for one of our special volunteer weeks when a programme of activities complements work outside - or at any other time. Please see the website for more details http://chisholme.org/calendar/12/59-Volunteer-Week-June.html

Volunteers are a vital part of life here. You may be involved in diverse activities suc... more inside

We prefer short term helpers - a few days up to no more than 3 weeks please.

We are Cathy (38 who mainly works from home) and little boy who is 5 years old and home-educated. We live in a beautiful little cottage slap bang in the middle of a nature reserve.

We like to have 2 helpers so friends are welcome to apply, alternatively we are happy to take 2 single travellers - but please be aware you may need to share a sleeping area with another helper (who we will ensure is the same sex and similar age to you.)

We do not take helpers without seeing pictures, so if you do not have photos on your profile, please let us know your Facebook page or other.

Our home is small and so unfortunately you won't have a bedroom but will be sleeping in the office during winter or in a tent in the garden in warmer weather. You will of course have a warm bed and access to the house 24 hours a day though.

We have a big kitchen, sitting room (with X-box, Wii and internet TV) and big gard... more inside

Experienced is preferred, but is not essential, as training will be given if required.

This is a rural setting but on fast frequent train and bus routes to both Edinburgh and Glasgow. I have only just joined HX but been hosting on CS for years and you may get a better idea of me both as an individual and as a host, see my website link above.

I have just moved from Edinburgh to a former farmhouse outside Edinburgh sort of halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. As of this morning I have not yet updated my CS profile to reflect this. Too busy with unpacking cleaning and all the things I have to do now I am here and for the next many months. Hence my joining HelpX

I am looking for some light help cleaning organising outside help. planting etc and even some admin or web research work if it suits

I have no fixed views on how long you can come for 2 or 3 days or longer. Even had CS who came to my last place for 2 days and stayed 2 months

Might suit someone looking fr a central but rural setting to explore Glasgow Edinburghgh and Scotland and or some... more inside

We need help from June 17. We need help with looking after the sheep, building new fences or repairing dry stone walls or any other maintenance tasks on the farm. Please only reply if you will enjoy the challenge of physical outdoor work.

We may also need help with maintenance in the garden and polytunnel.

The farm is also a livery yard. No help should be needed with the horses. I have my own horses so there could be an opportunity to ride horses.

We are offering accommodation, meals and we hope also an enjoyable experience. The offer would suit someone who can be flexible and have fun. I enjoy helping people with their English, but need helpers to have enough English to follow instructions.

We are situated in the beautiful Clyde Valley bordering a nature reserve and near the World Heritage Site of New Lanark.

Our farm is 3 miles from Lanark, and about 30 miles from Glasgow and Edinburgh so makes a good base for sight seeing.

Please only reply if you can come ... more inside

**2017 UPDATE** THIS YEAR WE WILL BE BUILDING A WORKSHOP, CONSTRUCTING AN OUTSIDE DEN/TREEHOUSE, PLANTING TREES AND LANDSCAPING A PICNIC GARDEN AND POND AREA AS WELL AS THE USUAL VEG AND FRUIT GROWING SO IF YOU THINK YOU CAN HELP THEN PLEASE GET IN TOUCH. We are a friendly family who, nearly 3 years ago moved to our smallholding in a beautiful spot at the foot of the Cheviot Hills in the Scottish Borders. We are starting from scratch turning a bare field into an organic veg and fruit plot and home for animals. We need help with all sorts of things: digging and planting; erecting stock-fencing; building a tree house; growing food from seed; maintaining the veg plot and hedging; painting the outside of the house; looking after the pigs and chickens; help around the house. If you can turn up, fit in and help out then we can look after you!! We had Helpxers for the past couple of years: it was a great experience and we got loads of jobs done and made new friends. Help very much needed with tree planting and tree care from now to end May.

We are a small alternative hill farm and woodland. We need help with building work, planting trees, soil improvement, woodworking, processing and delivering firewood and establishing zones for growing fruit/nuts/vegetables. Other interests include dry stone walling and permaculture. Accommodation is in a caravan with gas cooker and woodstove for colder evenings. Helpers usually eat meals with us, including home baking adventures (see photo 2) and culinary explorations from our guests' own repertoires. We are off grid with composting toilet. We are 20 minutes drive from the nearest shops and can collect you from station or bus stop. In the evening our location feels peaceful and remote (see photos 1 and 3) but there is regular traffic on the road during the day so hitching is an option. We also have pedal cycles you can borrow. Mobile phone networks and internet access usually possible. Wildlife on site... more inside

We are the Laurenson family. There are 4 of us who live in the house, myself, my husband and two children, aged 7 and 3. We also have a Rough Collie dog and 5 hens.

We stay in rural Aberdeenshire, although there is an occasional bus service into the nearest town (Inverurie) and regular buses/trains into the nearest city (Aberdeen) from there. Our house is in a truly beautiful location, with an elevated position giving views for miles across the countryside.

The house is quite a size with two spare double bedrooms (one fully en-suite and the other has a shower with toilet facilities across the hall) and also a second living room for guest/helper use.

We are looking for help mainly in the garden, but also some jobs in the house. We would welcome people with landscaping and joinery (carpentry) skills. The larger projects include creating paths and planting beds in the garden (total area of garden is about 1 acre and we also have a 2 acre field with a wind turbine).
