We have developed four Community Growing Areas for our small town of Coupar Angus. Help is required to develop the areas as well as to plant, tend, harvest and sell, though local outlets, our locally grown vegetables. We also run a cycling project (cycle training/ mechanics/ retail), a local vegetables and local crafts shop (the High Street Store), undertake various environmental projects around the town and publish the local news letter. We run a service offering energy saving advice to local residents. We can offer work in all of these areas. Accommodation is in our family home where you will have a room of your own. There are many jobs to be done which could suit lots of different people so have a look and see if you would fit in.

We are a family of four with teenage sons who are now mostly away. We own a beautiful 40 acre croft on a Scottish Island called Lismore. It is a long, slim island situated at the mouth of the great Glen in loch Linnhe and is easy to get to; (5 min from Appin and 50 min from Oban by boat). This is a lush, fertile island with incredible views of the surrounding mountains and waters.
Our vision is to create a beautiful and inspirational nugget of Scotland where we can live self sufficiently and gently on the land, however we have a lot to do to get there and need plenty of help. I am a textile artist and run my business from a studio on the croft. (See www.mogwaiidesign.com) I run textile retreats as well as make products and commissions for sale. My husband is a house builder however he will soon turn his focus to all the things that need attending to on our land. We have 38 Shetland sheep, 3 hens, 3 cats and one dog so if you're allergic to animal hair or dust, best stear clear! We... more inside

Hi All,

My wife and I are building two Straw bale holiday lodges in our 5 acre site in Aberdeenshire.

We are looking for volunteers to help build the second lodge. This will involve learning how to build with straw, and once this is completed we will lime render the straw to protect it from the elements. We also intend to install a green (sedum) roof on both lodges.

We are looking for help mostly with the building project, but there might be a bit of general gardening/maintenance work around the land too.

We will provide food and accommodation in the form camping (toilets and showers on site). We can supply everything you need; tents, sleeping bags, camp beds electric hook up, etc..

Below is a rough timetable of dates and planned work to be carried out on the lodges:

We are looking for short & long term help, either with farm or building work or a mix depending on your preference & experience.

We are a 20 acre family croft in a quiet location where we like help with a wide range of jobs including all aspects of growing vegetables for a box delivery round (March - December), lambing (April), firewood, tree planting, fencing, building, animal care (sheep, bees, cattle, hens). A good work ethic is more important than previous experience & we love to learn from our volunteers too!

Future projects include building a load bearing straw bale house with traditional post & beam verandas, any trades / prior experience is very welcome! (Summer 2017 onwards)

If you are looking for a long term placement then we can teach you how to grow veg & run a veg box scheme & depending on experience this would be a partly paid position.

UPDATE: We are urgently looking for a person or couple/friends to stay with us to look after our boys for 1-2 weeks between 17th June and 1st July but HAVE to be here 20-24th June.

We are hosting a "clan gathering" at the castle and we will both be working almost full time. We will need someone to watch our 3 boys. The youngest will be at preschool Monday to Friday mornings and the eldest 2 at school all day Monday to Friday so there will be some down time. It will also be a unique chance to witness a Scottish Clan Gathering where 650 Macleans from all over the world will be at the castle on Saturday 24th June for a day of festivities and entertainment.

We will need you to also help with daily household chores as well as preparing an evening meal as we will be so busy. Please see below for more details on our little family! Car licence would be very useful but not essential.

"As a volunteer at Chisholme House you are appreciated for who you are, not only for what you do."

This is a place of great beauty set in the heart of the Scottish Borders. It is primarily a school and retreat centre. The 187 acre estate offers an ideal space in which to retreat, engage in study and experience the reviving effect of being close to nature.

We accept help throughout the year but at the moment we are particularly looking for help over the summer. Come and join volunteers from all over the world for a week or two of satisfying work in Chisholme's walled garden and estate - and help too in preparing the wonderful meals for which we are famous. You can come for one of our special volunteer weeks when a programme of activities complements work outside - or at any other time. Please see the website for more details http://chisholme.org/calendar/12/59-Volunteer-Week-June.html
