We have been living in the Languedoc, in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains, for nearly five years now. With the help of family and volunteers, we've been working to transform the property into an organic smallholding with small-scale holiday accommodation, and to move towards a sustainable way of living.

With two-and-a-half hectares of woodland, meadow, orchards and vegetable garden, as well as sheep, chickens, cats and guinea-pigs, there is always plenty to do.

We welcome volunteers from March until October, staying for 2 - 3 weeks. In the summer season we have a small number of paying guests, and really appreciate volunteer help to look after them, and to look after the grounds, the animals and the garden. Out of high season, there is project work to do - small-scale construction, decorating, gardening, woodland management and maintenance.

We welcome people with practical skills and ideas to undertake new projects, but out of season, enthusiasm and commitment are mo... more inside

Hello, I'm traveling by inland river barge through Europe, especially France, Belgium and Holland. The barge is an original Dutch built peniche and made for the old French channels. I still transport cargo and I am the third generation of a shipper family from both sides of my parents. I live and work alone on the barge sometimes accompanied by my girlfriend.

There is a simple separate -little- room (see photo..)for guests in the front of the barge which is not suite. (no sanitation, but there is a chemical toilet and lavabo) Also a heating system, fridge/freezer and micro-wave.

The work to do depends on the person, maybe some cleaning, housekeeping work, shopping and cooking??? And serving the aperitif of the skipper of course at 18h00 exactly..LOL.

My intention is to make contact with other people and have an exchange of cultures.

Kind regards,

William

Annie and I are renovating our house and log chalet, ready for french students studying english. A lot of work has been done but still a long way to go! At the moment we are about to put back together an acquired conservatory.We are looking for help with general building work, nothing specialised, but another strong pair of hands about the place. We are trying to do up our house for free as a challenge to our selves by recycling, reusing, readapting what we have or can swap, barter or source locally.A lot of our food is grown locally, or at this time of year there is an abundant supply of free food in the fields and hedgerows, so lots of home cooking. Don't eat a lot of meat, some fish, but healthy! Accommodation for our helpx will be in the main house or the log chalet. Whoever is brave enough to come to us will be warmly welcomed as part of the family. All food drinks etc., Included, transport when we go on shopping trips etc., evenings out sometimes, or evenings in with books, ga... more inside

Domaine with 4 hectares of land.I go to a lot of dog shows so I go missing for 2-4 days at the most one week. 2 retired racehorses. Private chapel on the ground. Old farm dated 1731. 6 Border Terrier dogs. 1 large Italian rescue dog. Walled garden. Walled land. Needs some field attention. Garden could do with some imagination. 2 plantane/sycamore trees that persistently drop leaves and although the branches have been cut twice, they grow back. Property is renovated but as my energy cut out I might have wall papered only 3/4 of a room. But it is not too noticeable. There is a super 48m garden kitchen that I created out of 3 vide caves but have yet to find anyone to change the already purchased double glazed windows. Or tunnel through the wall to mount the chimney for the Italian forno wood burner. The place is now lacking some energy as I reconstructed from roof down. I even put electricity in the chapel. I converted the huge tractor shed into an indoor riding school which the horses... more inside

[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW ]

Bonjour,

Our project aims at developping a self-resilient place in the middle of the Pyrenees mountain chain (South France) and practicing Ecology on a daily basis.

Here we learn, share, aware, respect, accompany, shape and communicate on a very simple basis : "Minimize your impact on this planet and maximise general happiness". This is one of the reason the place is vegan.

If you want to share (or already share) this vision, you are more than welcome.

Our work consist in :
1/ Regenerating the soil together with providing food to the residents ; we base our work on permanent agro-forestry cycles (I am not talking of permaculture but it is);
2/ Restauring an old house, partly troglodyte (carpentery, alternative way of energy production...) to create a workshop area where hosting events;
3/ Building light habitats (tiny house, roulotte, geodesic domo, tree houses);
4/ Developing medicinal herbs gardening;
5/ Planning the animal refuge project;
6/ Planning the refugees' housing... more inside
